The 49-year-old Sherlock star, who was the first contestant announced for
the BBC celebrity dancing show last week, told her Instagram followers that
she thinks the backlash is over her comments in March about a child
performing a drag act.

In the video, she said: “I’m sorry if you feel like you need to boycott Strictly
for a tweet I made about a drag show but I don’t think 12-year-olds should
be doing overly sexualised drag acts.

“That’s my personal opinion, that’s all. I’m not pushing it on anyone else, I’m
just saying that’s how I feel.

"But my tweet back in March was regarding a 12-year-old who was doing it in
front of adults. And it just upset me because I saw a kid, a little kid, a 12-
year-old, doing something very over-sexualised. And I didn't think it was
right...

"And that was my tweet. I didn't associate that with the trans community, nor
would I associate that with the trans community, because I think they're two
separate things. And I'm not transphobic... I am a firm supporter of the
legitimate trans community."

But some fans were very unhappy with the news as they vowed to switch off
and not watch the 2023 series as a result of her addition. @mettycalfe said:
"Definitely giving it a miss then."

@riverstour said: "There’s as much chance of me watching this year, as there
is of me not buying coffee from Costa." @ellarhapse said: "we won’t be
watching."

The difference is that beauty pagaents are almost universally acknowledged to be skeezy and gross, and there hasn't been any visible push to make them seem acceptable or to be encouraged.

They're pretty niche, and have had no reason to be mentioned on these boards.

Most of the forum users aren't in America, so it's less in our periphery. Child drag shows haven't been around since the 1960s, so their increasing prevalence is newsworthy, which is why it attracts comments.

i'm against child pageants myself because children should be protected until the point when they're mature enough to let them have more privacy, old enough to make their own life choices



Miss pageants are ok in my opinion, same as next top model shows, and controversial but i am not against trans people in next top model shows, Loiza was my fave back then, she has been in many other shows she competed in, also in the german Lets Dance, she has a funny personality, and even tho not the technically best dancer, she does have lots of fun and give it her full 110%

Drag act performances can vary, obviously any sexually mature themes being performed in front of children is wrong, it doesn't matter who is doing it.

But getting away from the Media's stereotypes of Drag performers, most of them do a variety of different routines such as Comedy and singing etc.
