Collected my daughter and her boyfriend and dropped them to the garage to collect his car, went to work for most of the day, arranged to go visit a rescue centre on Saturday to adopt a dog, picked my daughter up after work and we did a hot yoga class, dropped her home, had a shower, ate my dinner and currently watching a Netflix documentary on the dark side of Kidfluencers

when we got Tilly she was not on our radar at all, had recently just come into the kennels she just happened to be next to one of the dogs we went to see, the nice thing was they showed us all the dogs not just the ones we were interested in, she basically captured us with her worried face and we are so glad we did as we ultimately found out she is a Romanian rescue so had obviously been adopted and then put back up for adoption, no idea why apart from she moults like crazy for such a short haired dog

Awww her worried face. Well, she definitely landed on her paws, she's a very lucky dog. And beautiful... It would be so hard to work for a shelter, thank God there are people who do. Bear is moulting like mad right now, luckily it's only twice a year.

Builder''s merchant to price up materials to have my garage roof replaced. My lovely builder is fitting me in so I said I'd buy the stuff so they just have to arrive and do it.

Called in to Morrisons and got thoroughly depressed looking at all the lovely plants they've allowed to become parched and die.

Took care of the lawn finally after having been down for several days. Got front done yesterday and back is done now. More destruction of weeds (what was left) has occurred and I watered my runners.

It's dry enough the back corner of my backyard that hasn't filled in yet and it's very dusty just stepping through it.. so my black lab likes to lay under the tree and she came into the house earlier and spooked me at first, because I only saw dust on her head and I thought she got hurt. Then saw one side of her was dusted white which was kinda funny.

…(…I should have put this in the garden thread…)…I need to do some lawn work as well because it’s still a bit patchy in places from when we seeded but it’s quite stormy and wild atm so not a good time right now…I’ve got some winter coats/covers for the olive trees so I’ll look at when to wrap them up as well and just generally resting the garden for the winter…there isn’t loads to do…I have Jasmine which is vivid red in the winter and turning green for the summer, it’s just in the midst of turning back to red right now and looking quite stunning……

I need to talk some trash.

My husband sends me an update while at work like "FINALLY!!!!"... because our trashcan has been busted since they fixed it the day they finally picked up our Recycling after that had been sitting out for months (lol x2)... (I'd mentioned this before).

https://i.postimg.cc/4dRvGgyR/14886.jpg

It's been broken all this time sitting on curb and that spot of grass still hasn't been able to grow back (lol)... and I have to labor to flip it back up to put trash in before the day of pickup and then put it back upside down after pickup... not easy, I'm small and it's huge... but we have to leave it upside down and empty so they'll "hopefully" come fix it. I stopped flipping it upside down the past few weeks because I stopped caring, but we can't put anything in it outside of the day of pick up so yeah... means we have to find creative ways to store trash. It's great.

So he sends the update from the Trash People and we're like HAHAHAHA YES!...

This would've made more sense rather than waiting several months for some random person who is probably non-existent to come replace trashcans. They're supposed to have contractors come and switch them out, but they've had money issues I think. It's been so bad that when we call periodically to keep up our ticket, we get a rant from the operators about how stupid it is. They're so tired of it... so yeah, finally the City figured something out.

The not fun part is going to be taking a giant trashcan and traveling with it across town. I wonder if it'll even fit...

Also I didn't know we could have a 2nd trashcan... more dead grass, but there's benefits hmms...

….awwww…not what you wanted to hear, I know…when a friend had the same last autumn and had to change hers, it wasn’t nearly as expensive as she feared…and a huge positive after it’s changed and going forward …?….is that the new one will be much more efficient and effective …and should be so much cheaper to run than your current one has been…you might not feel it now but the savings over the next few years even, should make a big difference to your energy bills…I know that’s no consolation right now…

Yeah once it’s done it’ll be good, but wasn’t an expense I wanted today.

Very nice!

I don't know if the runners will grow crazy or not when it cools. I haven't paid that much attention to my grass post-summer in the past. I'm afraid to do anything too much because we're not completely cooled down enough yet so some of my grass is still dormant from August heat.

I don't have any flowers yet :bawling: But that sounds really nice and so nice to that to look forward to. I don't think I've ever seen an olive tree in person. Our climate may not be ideal.

Soon I'm going to get the stuff to start edging/removing sod from around our Swamp Oak we have growing in the front yard. It needs a bit more breathing space, so plan to cut a big enough area so that I can plant other things in it as well as a small rock garden.

…the UK isn’t the ideal climate for olive trees either…they’re more Mediterranean climate lovers and thrive well in hot dry countries but so long as they don’t get too much water and are quite sheltered, they can do ok here ….but they don’t always fruit/flower, though …

We're not at all dry, but we're definitely hot.

My neighbor runs a small landscaping business (delivering plants, flowers, etc) that they keep stored in their backyard. I've thought of starting an apiary at some point over the years, so thought about all the little flowers that will help feed the bees. I think they buy wholesale and then store it, then when they're not at their job, they take a truck out to the road to sell their goods. They enjoy it as a hobby and we are sort of exchange efforts around our hobbies/interests.

Right now I'm working on helping them to grow some grass on the edge of their yard that sits underneath one of their trees. I think it originates from Mexico... but it probably needs a little cushion from the grass to stay hydrated. I've been planting St Augustine runners on their side and watering them and I don't mind to hit their sidewalk when I'm edging. Some of the others I've already planted are spreading, so hopefully by next year it'll actually be filled in...

They were the ones who planted our Swamp Oak and occasionally he comes over to feed it and another plant he left for us on our property.

…what a great neighbour to have…/…I’m not that much of a plantsperson and don’t know much about these things but I do love that feeling of seeing it all spring to life through the summer …an apiary would be a wonderful thing, bees are so fascinating in how they’re such a work together community…sometimes with new build homes/gardens I see false grass and false flowers/plants etc…no maintenance, I guess…?…but it’s really sad to see because it obviously doesn’t attract any insect/mini beast life either…imagine a world of artificial gardens…

Our climate is ideal for ample amounts of green, but not so for fake flowers.. they would be sun bleached by the time summer is over  I have a bright yellow metallic flower that spins in my backyard and it's already starting to fade...

I hate when it feels like you have way more energy than you actually do because there will be this spike... and then you to start to the thing again as you're doing it, get tired and start to struggle. You don't know if you're getting better or just going mad.

I took child and myself out to eat as it was near a supply shop I needed to get stuff from. She got to fill up on all her favorite things. Then we went to the "smelly stuff" store (Bath & Body works) and I'm reminded why I stopped shopping there.... $29 for a candle and $17 for a small tube of lotion/body wash. Right now have lavender oil in my humidifier's diffuser, running on low.

…yeah, candles are quite simple to make …with lotions…?…I don’t know about all from scratch but I imagine a basic unscented lotion would be not too complicated to scent and personalise…Maru has such great design talents, it would be nice to apply them to a product if that’s a direction that appealed in any way…

…EDIT:…actually scrub the body lotion idea as anything that’s applied to the skin would have to undergo all types of safety standards etc…but the candle making for sure…

I could! I have access to a tutor. She sent me handmade lip balm with everyday ingredients and I've been loving it. I'm one of those people who actually need it from time to time. My husband says he's never had a problem with chapped lips? So I only really buy it just for me.

I thought they were all gone by now :bawling: I did what Ammi mentioned too, sprayed an essential oil around my room with peppermint etc in and hopefully it keeps them away :fc:

I do live out in the sticks, not sure if that makes a difference. I suppose it's useless me saying they're more scared of you? And they eat bugs and mozzies...? I used to be scared of them as a kid, I can pick them up now. My son often comes in from the garden with his hands clasped, "guess what I've found!" . I find it pays not to be scared of bugs...

I have knocked down this one nest 7-8 times now and they wouldn't move out of the area, but I think their production is about to close up shop because they're not really working on the new nest anymore, just sort of hanging out. I knock it down when I work on the lawn, but most of our grass is dormant right now despite light watering due to a drought, so there's probably not enough food. It's still way too warm I think for any queens to go off to hibernate. Last year they didn't leave until sometime in November.

Been very busy past several days. We are supposed to be getting a significant storm on Saturday (projected 1-3" inches of rain) which will help break the drought. Anyway, my lawn I've let grow because 1) drought and 2) preparing for winter... and so I cut back what had grown and maybe won't cut for a good while after (we'll see). Anyway, so must dust was dispersed because I gathered up all the leafs. Found several pecans in the yard among the leaves, so I guess neighbor's tree is a young pecan? I don't know where they are coming from and I don't see foragers in that yard very often

I'm expecting all hell to break loose so I've already hit the allergy meds and hopefully won't be too bad in the morning.

I have cuts done so I can put together a floating shelf. I just have to take it together and "modify" when I get the stud bits fitted, then hopefully that will be up soon for the breakfast area.

TX Senate, no, they're not up yet. US Senate, no one in our area. We have 17 propositions (:spin:) up and most are Constitutional amendments (for State of Texas). There's also the local school districts and some of those trustee positions are up.

This isn't the biggest election, but with there being so many props on the ballot, I'd say it will get more turnout than usual. There's a a couple of special elections (one is US House) to fill Sheila Jackson Lee's old seat (US Congress/House) and now Sylvester Turner's former seat as he died shortly after filling hers.

It's very likely to go into a runoff because there's just that many people for it. It took me a couple of swipes to see them all. I'm surprised that the seat is on our ballot at all as we're no longer zoned in that district under the new map boundaries  Maybe because it's a "special" election the voter map is already spoken for. I don't know how it worked out that way. I just vote.

I'm surprised that the seat is on our ballot at all as we're no longer zoned in that district under the new map boundaries  Maybe because it's a "special" election the voter map is already spoken for. I don't know how it worked out that way. I just vote.

…it all sounds just such a lot in comparison to the UK……I mean, I would just get totally frazzled at having to swipe a few times to be able to even see them all and then have to focus on a choice, oh Lord…but I guess that for you, it’s a bit more focused in direction in those that you can just dismiss straight off and only a few possibilities to actually consider because you’re so familiar with the system etc…

Booked a couple of holidays for next year. Greece for three weeks and then a week away in the Lake District.

Looking at Thailand in the new year too potentially.

Umm sounds lovely. Like a good choice to me. Had fish and chips on Thursday. I always get the same I'm boring. Fish and chips and maybe a fish cake or their wings as I like the way they do it.

Having bolognese tonight
