Looks like it will be tiers of tarriffs, and countries wait with bated breath to see what band they will fall into, its like Council Tax

I'd meant to ask at some point, but has anyone heard of this?. I'd read somewhere that supposedly it's becoming a bit of thing offline where people are just going to stop buying anything American made in the UK... I've only heard it in one place, though.

I did hear some people on a phone in radio show this morning saying as the government are going to sit on their hands, the only thing people can do is stop buying American products, cant see it happening though, we love Amazon and Maccy Ds too much

there will be thresholds of concern. Those that don't do much business with america will just pass the cost on to consumers. Those that do big business will apply reciprocal tariffs. It will likely lead to a world wide recession, and we basically have to accept it

I do think it's at least possible it becomes a sentiment that sticks around. I think it's a perfectly normal reaction to listening to a world leader talk sh** about your own country. I mean, sure, we don't tend to be very fond of our own politicians... because it's still your govt...

what do Americans make of this Maru?

People have become so used to media ranting about everything and anything so anything being said is largely either being ignored or people have a "wait and see" is my impression. We've self-liberated from the rage. Nobody is talking politics. The reactionary energy to everything Trump or anyone else for that matter (including Democrats) has diminished...

What I have noticed is the anger or reactions seem more localized (local politics). Local news and politicians seem to have caught onto this also. Some cities or areas have a history of being loud and outspoken about national politics though, and that's more cultural I think than political (not just "muh liberalism"). Some people still want to hang onto that and I think that's fine... we've never really had that here even though it's claimed Houston is very liberal...

It's time for Starmer and this government plus the opposition too, to decide to take a stand against him.
It's a good while since I agree with the LibDems but I am now as to Ed Davey's view of him.

How quiet though is the narcissistic Farage about this friend he runs up the backside of, along with the rest of his also awful ONLY destructive crew in Reform.

Plus cancel the odious creep's State visit invite too, stating that due to tariffs we cannot afford now to waste funds just to appease and build up an unworthy recipient's ego.

yes, heard that just now too on the news

can't blame China for doing the same to America, we'll see what the effect of that will be at Wall Street i think

it is good for America to only have their businesses in their own country, however the negative side to this is, many foreign businesses moving out of the country obviously, which will also lead to people losing their current jobs, and then those people will need to go through job interviews again, so i'm not too sure if there are more jobs for americans

I read Congress can vote this down, as the US constitution gives it powers over taxes and trade.

Trump had to declare a national emergency to set tariffs, and he used the Fentanyl smuggling across the Mexico and Canada borders to do that - but the Congress can limit time it is effective for.

Congress is full of people who will and can cash out the moment the wind blows the wrong direction, so I wouldn't put too much emphasis on what they're capable of. They'll do what is expedient for their own necks in the end. Each session their political will has gotten weaker. And right now, Republicans have control and no real reason to risk their own hide going against the base where they'll be accused of trying to stop his agenda.
