…there’s one called Audible/which is Amazon and it has a 30 day trial so maybe try it for size and see how it fits…?…

I use Audible, it's not free but the subscription is £7.99 which is the cost of a book and with that fee you get a free book per month anyway. I never pay more than the sub and get my free book but they also have a big selection of free books and free Podcasts.

…and I reckon that in the trial 30 day period a couple of books could be completed which gives a good idea if it’s an app that you like and find easy to use etc…

Yeah, definitely worth getting the trial, I always take them for Prime Video but I wouldn't pay for Prime Video, I guess it depends how much you'd use it, Audible is well worth the Subscription Fee imo, I drive a lot so get through a lot of listening (whether it's books or Podcasts in the month)

When my long covid was new/when it's giving me a hard time I listen(ed) to them - sometimes it was the Ender books, sometimes books by Wodehouse.
Thank you peeps !!

I have just been screwed over bigtime !
Downloaled Audible app
Paid £0.99 for the first month ( £9.99 per month after )
Got 1 credit given to me ..
Did a quick search for the English Patient — used the credit , downloaded and had a quick listen ..
Then searched for “Where the Crawdads sing” clicked on it and it asked for £7.99 !!
WTF ??

I save my credit for books I want and then read the free podcasts or chose free books for the rest of the month until I get my new credit the next month.

Ah
Given it’s a month trial to seduce me into paying £9.99 a month… I expected to have full access to all books for a month… guess I am too naive
Thank you for the tip on searching for FREE books - I couldn’t work out where to find them … working around the app it seemed just about everything costs hard earned cash

Just cancelled the monthly subscription so it’s their loss .. I got The English Patient audiobook downloaded so it’s not all bad

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI mean, if you're reading physical books you have to buy them as well. The Authors have to make money too and less than £10 per month is such a small amount to pay

For the free books you literally just type "Free Books" in the search bar within Audible, the same place you'd search for the title of a specific book

I've just finished The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith, or JK Rowling as we know her better. I really loved it, it's about as far from Harry Potter as you could get. Celebrity death, private investigator with his own problems, a full cast of brilliant characters. Looking forward to the next one.

They're my favourite books atm. I read the last 4 and watched the TV series of books 1-4 originally but then I decided to go back and get the first 4 on Audible aswell. Just finished The Silkworm, its even bettrr than The Cuckoo's calling

Do you watch his fishing show with Paul Whitehouse? And more importantly, Ted the dog? I hate fishing, know nothing about it, but it's such a lovely show. It's like 30 minutes of therapy.
