…there’s one called Audible/which is Amazon and it has a 30 day trial so maybe try it for size and see how it fits…?…

Iv been getting into hearing books read by people who mumble and speak softly

I find that Inaudible is the best app for this

I use Audible, it's not free but the subscription is £7.99 which is the cost of a book and with that fee you get a free book per month anyway. I never pay more than the sub and get my free book but they also have a big selection of free books and free Podcasts.

…and I reckon that in the trial 30 day period a couple of books could be completed which gives a good idea if it’s an app that you like and find easy to use etc…

Yeah, definitely worth getting the trial, I always take them for Prime Video but I wouldn't pay for Prime Video, I guess it depends how much you'd use it, Audible is well worth the Subscription Fee imo, I drive a lot so get through a lot of listening (whether it's books or Podcasts in the month)

When my long covid was new/when it's giving me a hard time I listen(ed) to them - sometimes it was the Ender books, sometimes books by Wodehouse.

Crap

I have just been screwed over bigtime !

Downloaled Audible app

Paid £0.99 for the first month ( £9.99 per month after )

Got 1 credit given to me ..

Did a quick search for the English Patient — used the credit , downloaded and had a quick listen ..

Then searched for “Where the Crawdads sing” clicked on it and it asked for £7.99 !!

WTF ??

There's loads of audiobooks included with Spotify premium these days. I think that's my best value subscription

You get 1 credit a month. Some of the books are free but others you have to buy. Type in free books in the search bar in audible and it will list the free ones. I save my credit for books I want and then read the free podcasts or chose free books for the rest of the month until I get my new credit the next month.

Ah

Given it’s a month trial to seduce me into paying £9.99 a month… I expected to have full access to all books for a month… guess I am too naive

Thank you for the tip on searching for FREE books - I couldn’t work out where to find them … working around the app it seemed just about everything costs hard earned cash

I mean, if you're reading physical books you have to buy them as well. The Authors have to make money too and less than £10 per month is such a small amount to pay

For the free books you literally just type "Free Books" in the search bar within Audible, the same place you'd search for the title of a specific book
