TV personality and broadcaster Dani Dyer will no longer compete in the new series of Strictly Come Dancing, due to injury.

Dani Dyer says: "I had a fall on Friday in rehearsals and landed funny. I thought I had rolled my foot but it swelled up badly over the weekend and after an MRI scan yesterday, it turns out I have fractured my ankle. Apparently doing the quickstep on a fracture is not advisable (!!) and the doctors have said I am not allowed to dance so l’ve had to pull out of the show. To say I’m heartbroken is the biggest understatement. I am so going to miss dancing with Nikita but will of course be watching closely and cheering all the couples on."

Sarah James, Executive Producer, BBC Studios says: “Dani has brought so much passion, joy and enthusiasm to Strictly, and her partnership with Nikita was off to the most sensational start. Everyone on the show is incredibly sad that she's no longer able to compete in this year's series. We send her all our love and best wishes for a swift recovery, and we very much hope to welcome her back to the ballroom in the future."

That’s gutting for her, and painful.

Will someone be replacing her?

Nikita is quiet on social media, which adds to my theory, there might be a replacement behind closed doors since saturday, because Dani got the injury on friday

and i'm thinking someone within the BBC family bubble, someone older too

i also think a back to basic waltz is doable for any last minute entrant

i'm somehow thinking Nicki Chapman for whatever reason, because A) she is one name who i thought to have done the show by now and B) she is a household name for the BBC, has a decent fanbase which would compensate for limited training hours compared to the other couples, and is very likeable, and height wise, you also would need to look, who is a good fit for Nikita

i'm sad for Dani, i was looking forward to seeing her dance :(

hope she can get Jamie Laing'd, and asked for next year if she still wants to

but yeah broken ankle can happen to anyone

but anyway mid-series injuries are even worse, i've seen it happen to two of my favourites in the german version

first there was Jimi-Blue Ochsenknecht, with a broken knee, the week after he had a perfect score of 30 for his paso doble to a orchestral version of another bites the dust, which simply was phenomenal

second, few years ago Mark Keller with ongoing back problems, also the week after a perfect score of 30 for his charleston to step in time (yes what Nigel would've done on strictly)

Jimi-Blue would've likely won the glitterball so that felt so gutting :bawling:

Mark on the other hand, was just a nice surprise for his age his amount of rhythm, musicality, able to keep up with Kathrin's crazy choreo's, glad he was compensated by production to perform as a music guest on the christmas special, christmas songs in a dean martin-ish style

Diego Pooth i had some luck with, apparently he had some light knee injury but good enough to dance in the final, luckily for him too, considering he ended up winning

Oh no. She was already one of my favourites. This series will be even worse now. There's not much of the cast im a fan of

If this season is going to be a success they need to replace Dani with a woman capable of competiing with Lewis for the glitterball

streets are saying it might be Tilly Amartey, whom recently competed in a christmas special

and for those who don't know her, she is a waterloo road actress, danced with Neil back then, but height wise, she'd also fit well with Nikita i think

i think it is either

Tillie Amartey, or Elaine Paige, or Alexandra Mardell

doubt an golden oldie like Moira Stuart or Sheila Hancock would commit to a full series

Elaine btw did same christmas special year as Matt Goss
