For me it has to be It's A Wonderful Life with James Stewart, I'm an old romantic!!!!!!!
More recent films though, I think ET would be up there, it's the sweetest film and I'm looking forward to the re-release

That is SUCH a hard question for me as I have so many favourite films. I've got hundreds on tape, too.
I think, though, that it has to be The King and I. And, yes, I cry at the end, every time.

With you on 'Wonderful Life' - I never tire of that film!
'Sound of Music'? Both my lads knew all the words to the songs by the time they were three, and still find it impossible not to join in loudly with any song from a musical. (No, they're not)
OH tells me he's torn between Dr Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia
Personally? I absolutely adored The English Patient. Two people thrown together by circumstance, initially disliking each other, drawn inexorably together into a forbidden grande passion he trying to restrain himself, her throwing caution to the wind........
mmmm, sounds familiar.........
There again, I am an old romantic..........
Hang on
P.S. Don't for goodness sake let Big G hire a monoplane!!!

It's really hard to pick just one fave film, there are too many.
I'm definitely in with the 'It's a Wonderful Life' group - love lots of films from that era (and earlier). 'The Philadelphia Story', 'Bringing Up Baby', 'Harvey'. If we're talking musicals then 'Meet me in St Louis' is one of my faves.
A bit more in the modern era - 'The Deerhunter' haunts me, as does 'Schindler's List'. I loved 'Field of Dreams' and 'Silkwood' and, bang up to date, 'Lord of the Rings'.
Told you it was really difficult to pick just one!! (sorry).

Hello Wildchild2k1,
Did you have trouble picking a nickname too.
I love Cary Grant, so sauve and dark! Any of his. The last film I want to see was "Crocadile Dundee" so funny!
I'm going to risk a smiley or two. After my last mistake who knows.:colour::colour::colour::colour::colour: I do like them! Make me laugh!

Fave file of all time for me has to be "Gone with the wind" - even if it is 3 hours worth!
My favourite modern film has to be Shrek, I can watch it over and over again and still see new things in it.
"Its a wonderful life" and "The empire strikes back" would also make it into my top 5, along with either "Total Recall" or "Moulin Rouge".
I love old black and white films
Brief Encounter comes to mind

Oh yeah, Brief Encounter, how could I forget it!! A classic that never fails to make me cry :bawling:
Generally I like films that make me think or make me cry.
Gosh Mark, you make me feel old and I'm only 32! Prehaps I'm a throw-Text Whiteback but give me Mary Poppins every time.
Not sure about "brief incounter" (cant spel anyway). A bit far fetched don't you think, Ally. Nice idea, though.:spin: lol
I do like this one :colour::colour::colour::colour::colour::colour::c olour::colour::colour::colour::colour::colour:
Sorry!!! Mad five minutes
Yes Chad :joker:, Mark's making me feel old too and I'm only 26 :spin2:
So Romantic  Brief Encounter  what a lovley thought to think it could happen
I like this one too :colour::colour::colour:

Funny but I'm noticing that a lot of Paul+Helen fans are the romantic film fans too, or is it just soppy old me!!!!!!

How could I forget 'West Side Story' http://thisisbigbrother.com/forum/images/smilies/conf.gif - one of the greatest musicals ever - and such a bittersweet love story.
Love 'The Way We Were', 'Sleepless in Seattle', 'Big', 'Saturday Night Fever' (language a bit much for my delicate ears though!), 'The Matrix', 'Die Hard' - oh, there are sooooo many.
Any film from the 30's and 40's too - especially the Frank Capra ones (or similar) - they are magical and could never be remade because they belong to that era - a much more innocent time. I know they remade 'Shop Around the Corner' as 'You've Got Mail' but it just wasn't the same; James Stewart wasn't in it for a start! I loved that man.
Also loved Montgomery Clift (the younger ones amongst you will wonder who on earth he was) - he was a really good actor and absolutely gorgeous to boot. He starred in a couple of pictures with Elizabeth Taylor when they were both young and oh so beautiful.
Anyway that's enough reminiscing. Sorry to waffle on but you've got me on one of my favourite topics. http://thisisbigbrother.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
peachy

I love this topic. What is everyone's favourite British film? Difficult isn't it? Black and White films, my favourites have to be any of the Ealing Comedies such as Kind Hearts and Coronets and Passport to Pimlico. I also loved Brief Encounter. Modern British films: Four Weddings and a Funeral and My Beautiful Laundrette.

I don't really like British comedies really. The modern day ones I think have been poor. I really didn't get how everybody loved Four Weddings and Notting Hill. They did nothing for me!!!
I suppose if I had to pick one it would be The Full Monty. It warms the cockles.:hello:. Especially when the big guy is in the shed wrapping himself in cling film trying to get thin while eating a Mars Bar. My kind of weight loss!!:colour:

I LOVE the EAling comedies. I've got a few on video and love 'em 2 bits. - Whisky Galore, The lavender hill mob, Ladykiller and Passport to Pimlico.
Ashamed to say that I also have a weakness for the old films of Norman Wisdom and George Formby!!!!!!!!:bouncy:

Hang on, no, they are both essentially optimistic and life affirming..........................
I think your favourite film just might be Apocalypse Now?????????

The Forbin Project is a good film. There the baddies are two super computers in control of Soviet and American nuclear missiles. In the end they subjugate humanity and successfully demand that they are worshipped as gods.
Evil wins again, just like real life

I've only just discovered this thread but thought I'd add my thoughts. Lots already mentioned - did anyone else see Dirty Dancing when it was reshown recently? I love that. Also Brief Encounter and Its a Wonderful Life. But my all time favourite has to be Casablanca - have watched it so many times I know most of the script - As far as I am concerned You can play it again Sam any time you like.
Of recent films I love While You Were Sleeping - got nothing to do the fact that I really like Bill Pullman = but what a lovely love story
