I was just wondering if anyone, who has had a baby obviously, has experienced these?

I had them the other day for 2 hours and I found them very traumatic

This might be wrong of me to do but Rachel had them on FRIENDS, and she went to the doctors with the problem as she wasn't sure what was happening at first and the doctor said that there was nothing to worry about at all.

The impression I get is that every woman/pregnancy experiences Braxton Hicks differently.

Methods for ceasing Braxton Hicks contractions include: changing position; taking a warm bath or shower; drinking water; resting; or changing activities

Thanks for the input.

It wasnt nice but seem to go away when I got out of the car a walked around.

I knew I wasnt in labour as there wasnt any breaks between contractions.

I have heard that they can be brought on by stress too..... :conf:

I just researched it and they sound really painful. I hope you're ok now.

Apparently dehydration makes them worse?

My sister had them a few days before giving birth, I don't know much about them but she said that it really hurts

An alternative name for them is "False Labour" :)
I'm not sure whether you want the technical description of what exactly they are but hopefully the alternative name will give some idea.

No problem. Lmao, sorry to hear that. :(

I read they help the body for birth. Is that a good thing?

No prob hon...... but seeing as I am too posh to push.......lmfao.... they are a waste of preparing for labour.

Everyone I know (myself included) had those at some point during pregnancy, and yes they hurt like helll.

I escaped those when I was pregnant, although I did have a C-section at 34 weeks so that could be part of it. I think that if I'd been nearer to full-term then I might have had a few of them.

How far along are you now Kiz?

I'm 30 weeks gone now Nicola..... I think they must be stress related as I get them when I get stressed so the connection must be there.

I am rather concerened that she might come early...eeeeekkk

Kizwiz, I had brazton hicks contractions (and I use that word CONTRACRATIONS because they honestly felt like the real contractions!) on and off for the last 8 weeks of my second pregnancy. They were irregular but at times very painful and I sometimes felt I was in labour, especially when I was 10 days late.

My midwife told me there was nothing to worry about and as my blood pressure shot up at 37 weeks and I spent 72 hours in hospital, I also had a further few midwives, doctors and nurses telling me the same thing.

The only reason I knew I was not in labour with these contractions was because they stopped. I honestly believed when they first started up that I was going to have my baby early but then because I had them so frequently I began to disbelieve my body. I hoped they were the real thing but because I timed them I knew they were not what I hoped they were.

I must admit when the BH contractions first started I was overwhelmed by them and every time they started I believed they would lead to the real thing as they were that convincing. It was only when after a couple of hours they eased and or they were too irregular that I knew from my first pregnancy they were not real labour.

Kizwiz, I imagine your BHs are strong because you have had previous pregnancies. I recall something my midwife said about women hav ing stronger BH contractions with subsequent pregnancies? I could be wrong but whatever the case if they are troubling you you must speak to your midwife or GP.

Thanks for your help wiglet.... it makes all the difference..... Its very scarey when it happens and your right they really do feel like contractions.

They seem to last longer than "real" labour contractions for like 4 or 5 mins.

I find that moving around helps and to regulate my breathing too

Kizwiz, hope Mr Moon is looking after you well?

My BH contractions (that I can remember as it was nearly 12 years ago) tended not to last for long as yours but I would have periods of up to 5-6 hours where I was having these damn things before they eased off. They may of lasted longer but like I said it was a long time ago.

I have spoken to a friend and she also had BHs but not as bad as you or I experienced them so I guess we are all different. (Lucky her)
Until you give birth you will always worry about something and then of course it gets worse doesn't it!!!! Enjoy your last ten weeks, I promise not to be patronizing about the 'blooming period' because I felt like an elephant, :elephant: (non dancing).

Lol Wiglet,

I do feel like a elephant... or hefferlump as i like to call myself.....

I know she is ok because her many many many movements havent been effected and I heard that that was a very good sign of a happy baby

And yes.... Mr Moon is looking after very well and attending to my every need.... bless him

both of us cant wait to see our daughter and its been a long old slog and a hard pregnancy to get this far and somehow i think the next 10 weeks will be long and slow.....lol

Aahh, poor you, Kiz! My mum says she had them with me, and they were a lot easier to deal with if you try and do some exercise while you're having them. I'm not sure if that's a medical recommendation, or if it's just what works for her, but there you go, lol. Aww, I'll bet Red'll be too busy to take pictures :P
