This thread will focus on school or college, who has been your day at school and stuff.

It's better to have one single thread about school than to have a thousand ones.

So let's talk about your day and what happened in your school or college.

I did come back today but not for a full day because in France we have the "pre come-back" when you meet the teachers, your new class, the new timetable, the class photo and...especially for me the Student of the Year's photshoot haha, I will show it on monday when I will get it.

Well my class is brilliant, I have all my friends with me but not my girlfriend, she was quite sad but for us it doesn't matter a lot. I have a great timetable, I finish everyday at 5pm, no school on saturday and the friday I finish at 1pm.

How has been yours then guys ?

Year 13...sounds interesting. Should be a good year if today's standards are met every day lol. It was really sunny and warm, plus some friends of mine have just joined the school so, socially, today was amazing - and the lessons weren't too strenuous today either, so today's been fantastic.

My opinion on private school's is that they're not much better than state schools, you learn the same but you have much more homework. Private school's are meant to have small classes but most state schools have small classes as well now. There's nothing brilliant about private school's at all. If you want to do well at school then you'll do your best what ever school you go to.

I agree.

It does look better on your CV though so its pretty useful. Then again I was going to go to the third worst school in Scotland instead of the third best if I hadn't got in to private school.

I think the main thing that makes my school better than some is that it has much more extra-cirricular activities and much better equipment for it than most schools.

My school used to be a horrible place about 6 years ago and then a new headteacher came along and the whole school has been refurbished and the uniform made smarter. It has two specialist subjects, languages and sport. Great staff who want everyone to do well. I did my GCSE German two years early and came out with a 'C'. I'm now doing AS german and i'm only in year 10. It just proves how good some state schools are. This year there's a brand new 6th Form Centre which is the size of a large primary school and the school have installed over 100 new computers, every room also has an interactive whiteboard in it to make the lessons better.

I think the Scottish marking system might be different, as we get Standard Grades and Higher, while England gets GSCEs and something else doesn't it?

Mine was a similar story. We went through loads of different head teachers in the first 2 or 3 years until one managed to turn it around, and the lowest people came out with were D's and E's whereas a few years before that was the highest grade people were coming out with.

Private schools are no better IMO. I was going to go to one but the only differences were the people and attitudes towards learning, and I don't have a particularly positive attitude so I wouldn't have fit in :colour: I went to a state school which had quite a bad reputation at first, but after leaving it was a completely different school and is now a specialist college in ICT and Maths. There, I met some of the best people I could ever ask to meet and came out with decent grades.

2 years on, even though it was the biggest shithole, I still miss it :bawling:

I leave in 44 or something.
I can't wait.
My school sucks.
It's improving, but I'm glad to leave.

We don't get study leave and have to attend lessons straight after exams, so I'm dreading that.
I'm just mehh with school.
Just want my GCSEs and out.
It's weird to think I'm leaving.
I'm at the stage in my life that both my sisters and dad have been through, but I'm going to come out with more GCSEs than nearly all of them combined =\

I'm doing GCSE's next year :(

My school has put a limit for the first time (Typicaly my year) where we can only pic 3 of our on subjects. Along with that we are forced to do English, Maths, Science, R.E, French and P.E.

I can cope with P.E, English and Science, and I can understand having to do the first 3 no matter what (like any other school in the UK) but the limit and forced not-gonna-get-ya-anywhere subjects really aren't fair.

Can't wait to leave school now the work this year is just too much. I think I will do well in my GCSE's apart from my french, I got a D in my mocks and i am not going to do much better in the proper exam. I have to do a speaking exam and role play in a few weeks and i haven't learnt any of the 60 questions yet because I will forget them on the day and mess the lines up. I can't do French it's so hard, I am so going to fail the speaking exam.

French is the 4th most difficult language next to Chinese, Arabic and Japanese. Everything is complicated, I can understand why english spoken people find it hard: it's full of rules everywhere.
French requires strong revisions when you tend to run an exam. But I wish you good luck anyway !

Yeah it is very complicated. Thanks but I could have all the luck in the world and I will still do awful. I am at the point now where I know I will fail it if I revise or not. I just don't care about it anymore so I am not going to revise for it and spend that time revising for other subjects.

I can understand you from point A to point B. I'm the same with Maths, I'm desperate with it, I don't understand. I can revise for 3 hours I don't understand. Actually I'm not surprised I had 5.5/20 on my blank exams in maths, I'm used to since I was 7 so it's fine.
I laugh at it because if I cry about it then I won't stop crying haha

Fortunatly all the teachers congratulated me in the other subjects so it's awesome.

I have a french mock tomorrow that I'll fxck up because I only know 10 of my 60 questions
partly because I was rehearsing all week for drama.
I'm predicted a B, and I got a B in my mock, though my coursework's an A*? So now I'm aiming for an A overall but I'll be content with a B.

What are your 60 questions on? I think I must be with a diffrent examing board.

Wow your so lucky! I have TMGs of A's because I got high 7s in my SATs, which i think is unfair, as SATs are diffrent alltogether, you dont do them in a variation of topics, and I am just generally week at language.

And because I am not getting my predicted grades I sort of get a a bit annoyed, because I feel like I'm getting dummer! lol!

So do I!

I need to do Major - Maths, French and Geography.

Maybe we could do Revision things on Tibb, because apparently 'active' revision is good, so we could all test each other or something! lol!

I done a bit of Maths.
About the revision thing, i dont know how we could do it.

Maybe we could do like a Quiz on somestuff, or like teach people the parts we are best at of a subject.

Something diffrent.

Apparently testing others is a good way to revise, so maybe we could each do a mini-mini quiz on something?

Ruth*Star
12-04-2008, 07:59 PM
Yeah like we could make up questions on particular subjects.

Lets do this thang!

How shall we work it out?
Shall we make a list of subjects we do, and but our name next to it if we do it, and then put a minus after it if we are bad at it, and a plus if we are good, and nothing if we are ok. That way, we can help each other with mini quizes or something?

So, like this...

English - Magic+
Maths - Magic-
Science - Magic
History - Magic+
Geography - Magic+
French - Magic-
Art - Magic

So maybe add in your name and subjects and + or -.

How else can we sort it out? Is their a simplier way? Or we could just volunteer to do a thing on each subject?

!

My English exam is in about a month's time.. Ahhhh.

My prelims went better than I could ever have expected though (four As and a B!) so I've yet to start getting worried about exams, which I was, this time last year. Ah well.

I have my GCSE's in a few weeks... but before that, I have to do my French oral. Eeeeek! I haven't revised... argh.

I go to a welsh school, so welsh is one of the base subjects everybody has to do. I had my welsh oral on Friday, which went really good. :)

Ooh don't worry too much about the French one, especially if you've already done a Welsh one! Just keep reading them over, I found reading aloud helps, practice with a parent/sibling/friend and so on. It worked for me, I got full marks in mine!

I got my timetable posted to me today and I want to cry. I wouldn't mind too much but I've got 3 general studies exams which all last an hour I think ... I've turned up to less than half of my lessons, and the ones I did were a waste of time. I've just no energy to turn up for them and waste 3 hours of my life especially as I'm dropping it after the exam.

Then I've got 2 Psychology and 2 English so it's not all bad.

Can somebody just give me a brief description or something, pretty please?

:shocked::shocked::shocked:

Ours was 100% coursework and it was a 2 year course that we did in three weeks. It was all stupid and basic things and a little bit of design work which we used to show we can do these basic things such as copy and paste and rename a folder.

It was a huge stress staying back at school until 6pm some nights. We got one GCSE out of it (you either got an A or you got a U) and then when we went to college they made us do key skills so everyone who doesn't have an ICT qualification can get one, then they told us ours wasn't accepted! We argued and appealed like mad, we won in the end but its just proof that the school had the power to continue messing about even when we had left!

I had two exams today. One was a french re-take and there was two parts to it, a reading section and a listening section. I think I got an A* on the reading and a B on the listening so I should hopefully improve the D I got when I did it last year.

I also did my RS exam which went so much better than I expected it to, I did a bit of revision at dinner and what revision I did was on the exam so I think I did well.

Urghhh it dragged for me, my exam was 1 hour and 30 mins long, i don't think i have done all that great. I missed out a C question and was vague on some other questions.

I've been free from the clutches of school since late May. Our school is like a chav shelter. It's actually scary.
