View Full Version : Ugly Betty UK Pace Discussion Thread • Spoilers • Returns on September 5th
Use this thread to discuss Season 2 of Ugly Betty, which will launch in the UK on October 2nd.
The series is airing "in tandem" with the US broadcast of the show, meaning we will be getting episodes exactly one week after they have aired in the US!
EDIT: Ugly Betty has been confirmed for a UK launch on October 5th!
Here are some (potential) storylines for Season 2 (according to Wikipedia):
Season 2 will begin where Season 1 ended, with Santos possibly dead, or is he? Daniel and Alexis will survive the car crash, however, when they return to work the Meade siblings could have another person joining them in the Editor-In-Chief department when Illeana Douglas joins the cast as MODE's newest editor. Also, look for Alexis to deal with discrimination because of her transgender status, while a May-December romance awaits Daniel.
Wilhelmina and Bradford are engaged and should have a "fall wedding" (expected to take place in November) as said in the season finale "East Side Story". Also showing up just in time will be more members of the Slater family, and with Claire being a fugitive from justice (and is bringing Yoga along for the trip), look for Wil to hire a bodyguard named Duane (played by Vanessa Williams' ex, Rick Fox) to keep the ex-Mrs. Meade from crashing her party.
Christina's husband Stuart, whom she walked out on back in her native Scotland, will play a major role in the series.
As for Ignacio, look for Señor Suarez to stay in Mexico, a while longer as he tries to work out his citizenship status and dodging a revenge plot by the associates of the murdered banker.
Regarding Henry and Betty, in the second episode, Henry returns to his job in the Meade offices because he needs health insurance. Betty tries to act as though she’s fine with it. This season will also introduce viewers to a new character named Giovanni, who runs a food cart in the Meade building. He is expected to win over Betty's heart in the wake of Henry's decision to follow Charlie back to Arizona, thus setting things up for a possible love triangle, so don't look for Betty's romantic travails to be sorted out any time soon: Henry is still with the pregnant Charlie, whose questions about who is really the father of her baby will finally be revealed in the fourth episode. Also look for Henry's best friend Kenny, a street-talkin' wanna-be, make his presence known.
Wilhemina’s assistant Marc gets a romance this season. The plan is for Patti LuPone to return at some point in the season as Marc’s formidable mother Mrs. Jean Winer, who may finally be coming around to accepting that her son is gay, sparking competition between Marc's mother and Wilhemina get competitive over their respective efforts to fix him up with the perfect man (and the candidates, not surprisingly, turn out to be less than perfect). Marc will also find himself the object of desire by a gay photographer (expected to be played by David Blue), who'll make his presence felt in the sixth and seventh episodes and could end up being a recurring regular beyond that.
As for Amanda, she’s trying to figure out who she is – and how much of Fey Sommers' money she may stand to inherit. Early in the new season, Amanda does get one bequest from the late Meade editor: A small, nervous-looking dog with a whole lot of medical problems. Amanda is less than pleased about this portion of her potential inheritance. Also, look for Marc and Amanda to learn more of Amanda's family tree, and who her daddy really is. As for the "Love Dungeon", look for Amanda and Marc to turn Fey's "Secret Place" into their own clubhouse.
Other changes will include the possible introduction of a female schoolmate of Justin's, who was introduced in "East Side Story", where she played Maria to Justin's Tony in the school production of West Side Story and a male friend named Brandon, who might be a bad influence. Also, Justin will be one of several Meade interns Marc has to manage. In addition, look for Wilhelmina to interact with Justin in future episodes.

I can't believe it's starting in October. I thought it wouldn't be till January like last year.

Season two of the American dramedy television series Ugly Betty will start September 27, 2007 in the United States and Canada and is expected to run until May 2008. Similarly, in the United Kingdom, Series 2 starts on October 2, 2007 according to The Sun newspaper and will likely run until late May or June 2008.

Aye I just saw that on Wiki. I don't get it though, because 23 weeks from now is around March 2008. So how will it go on untill June? That must mean they have huge gaps where no episodes are broadcast. :shrug:

A quick update:
Having realised that the 2nd of October is actually a Tuesday, I looked up the Channel 4 schedules for Friday the 5th and there's a slot free between 9pm and 10.30pm.
I think we've found our launch day!

The hugely popular and award winning comedy Ugly Betty returns for a second series in October. The brand new series sees Betty Suarez (American Ferrara) continue to make her way in life in the unforgiving world of high fashion as executive assistant to Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius), editor of fashion industry bible MODE magazine.
When publishing mogul Bradford Meade (Alan Dale) handed the reigns of MODE over to this son Daniel he specifically hired Betty as his son’s new assistant – mainly because she’s the only woman in Manhattan Daniel wouldn’t sleep with. While neither of them knew the ins and outs of the fashion world, together they became a formidable team against those who would do anything to see them fail.
This season sees Betty’s family and love life in turmoil after her father Ignacio’s (Tony Plana) efforts to obtain a visa were denied and he was told to stay in Mexico. Betty’s sister Hilda (Ana Ortiz) has her life tragically turned upside down after the father of her son Justin (Mark Indelicato) was shot when he attempted to foil an armed robbery. Meanwhile, Betty must decide if she should tell her one true love Henry (Christopher Gorham) that the baby his ex-girlfriend is carrying might not be his. Back at the offices of MODE, conniving receptionist Amanda (Becki Newton) is set to wreak havoc at work after finding out she is in fact the secret daughter of the late MODE Editor Fey Sommers.
Ashley Jensen, Vanessa Williams, Michael Urie, Rebecca Romijn also star.

omg major news, i just watched the episode and omg such a good one, daniel is fine but alexus loses some of her memory and she says to daniel why are you calling me alexus im alexx...
also santos is alive in the beginning but his actually dead omg and its like his alive basically hildas having these dreams and rite at the end he says im going and she says one more day and you see it was a dream and his dead.
also justin becomes an intern for Mode...
henry comes back rite at the end
claire punches whilimedia {SP} and Whili realises its not going to be easy and that claire has friends to support and help her..

Apparently there will only be one break around Christmas and the series will finish around March 21st.

Unlike USA, the UK will run episodes with only one break at the end of 2007. It is thought that at this time the UK would have fully caught up with the USA and it might be possible that the UK is one or two weeks in front instead of behind (like Season 2 had started). The break is thought to be about 2 weeks long, (most probably the 2 weeks leading up to Christmas and new year. This will be week in which the episode should have aired on E4 on December 26 and Channel 4 on December 28.) In the UK the first 11 episodes should air weekly with no interruptions (it's likely that America will air the first 9 with maybe the odd week break and they will therefore be 2 weeks behind Great Britain when they return and will also have 14 episodes to play, whereas Great Britain will only have 12) starting Friday October 5 2007 and running until at least Friday December 14, 2007 with no interruptions. If it is taken off at Christmas it is likely the show will return on January 4, 2008 and will run until March 21, 2008.

Maybe you're right and the wikipedia article does seem to be a load of possibilities and maybes. But I hope it finishes later on than March.
But I would rather it started in January and finished in June personally, more like last year.

I think Channel 4 definitely wanted Ugly Betty Season 1 to be a hit in UK with all the advertising Davina did on the CBB live shows because I remember her saying about it a few times.

But I can wait. I'm not in to it at the moment, but I'm sure I will as soon as it starts. I've heard about some interesting storylines coming up which should be exciting. :bigsmile:
iMatt has already said about the Ugly Betty DVD coming out.
Is anyone else thinking about getting it? I'm not sure cuz it is quite expensive and the price may come down in time, or maybe not.

It's a shame that Santos didn't survive, but I knew he didn't anyway.
The only thing I didn't know happened was the Wilhelmina/Claire Meade confrontation.

The scenes with Hilda and Santos were perfect.
It had been a while since the season finale and they had to show why Hilda had missed him.
At the start when he came out of the shower I was like: "how cheesy!" and then when it turned out he was actually dead, I was really sad.

Another great episode tonight. Loved when the dog hound woman called Amanda's dog ugly and Marc said "Pot... Kettle... Black!", Marc was really good in this episode. So was Justin, I felt really bad for him.

Last nights episode wasn't as good as the last 2 IMO but I think that's because they focused heaps on Betty's dad who isn't as lovable of a character compared to Mark/Amanda, Wilheimaina (I always spell that wrong), Hilda and of course Betty.

episode 3 was alot better than 2 in my opinion. when amanda came out of the car at the black and white ball. it was hilarious. ive just dl episode 4. aired last night in america. going to go and watch it in a bit.

I think it's willamina i heard she gets pushed but by who is under wrap does betty look sad.

I would like to add Canada and South Africa to that first list.
There are probably tons more countries it airs in, or have localised versions, but I got that list from skimming a Wikipedia article.
