I hate it when people referr to the UK as 'England'

it's absolutely annoying, there is 3 other countries part of the UK.

nothing against you English, so don't start having a rant at me, I'm just saying being from Wales it's like ":conf: oh, we're not alive to the rest of the world." I'm sure most Scottish/N.Ireland people feel the same.

well Ross ive always been taught that England Ireland Scottland and Wales are all Brittish Isles and they are that we should all get on as a big family ive always said :cheer2:

For foreign people, when we say "England" it's for everything (Ireland, Scotland and Wales) ther eis nothing wrong for us but it's understandable that some people are annoyed by that.
We are just confused about United-Kingdom and Great-Britain.

What annoys me is when people say Ireland is part of the UK.

Nprthan Ireland is partof the UK but Republic of Ireland is not.

Unless you have a desperate desire for the entire world to be talking about Wales? If anyone is specifically interested in Wales, they'll refer to Wales. If they're referring to the entire UK as England then they're not specifically talking about Wales anyway, no matter if they say England/UK.

You're a country, that's part of a united kingdom.
So if anything, you get more mention than any other small countries around the world because whenever anyone mentions the United Kingdom, they're talking about Wales too.

And for anyone who refers to the entire UK as "England" then indeed, they need to get their facts straight. But I suppose some people class England as the main country, mainly due to its size and advanced growth compared to that of Scotland/Wales/Northern Ireland.

Though I really can't understand how you can sit and think "People keep referring to the UK as England, I wish my country got more mention...it's really getting on my nerves."

What are we going to talk about to do with Wales anyway? no worldly matters or major concerns/interesting topics seem to be emerging from Wales from what ive noticed.

Plus I doubt that many conversations come up that orientate around talking about the UK, and im sure not all of those conversations will have anyone saying the UK is "England" either.

1. Great Britain/Britain is said in reference to the entire UK, as well as England. Britain is widely used as a political synonym for the United Kingdom..so people don't just have to refer to us as the "UK"

2. The UK is a state formed from the union of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Which could contribute towards Wales being ignored more.

3. It's not surprising that people refer to the entire UK as England sometimes, when 83% of the UK population are living in England.

4. It's also not surprising that people may be confused what to call us if we are classed as Britain/Great Britain/United Kingdom all at once.

We've fought many wars over the years with eachother, and even now we've all united there's still a lot of prejudice and insults thrown around between the Irish/Welsh/Scottish/English.

So I daren't think what condition our countries would be in if we weren't a United Kingdom.

But I understand what you're possibly saying, it'd be nicer if we weren't four sections but one whole country.

i find it realy annoying when people reffer to Ireland as a part of the UK because its not and "The British isles" doesent include Ireland either but people from america and other places seem to think it is...

But, scotland, wales and northen ireland dont like to be associated with england. So, thats probably why most people, including myself class The UK as England. Becuase to me it is, but i suppose it depends on who you talk to, Becuase tbh, Wales and scotland are 2 seperate countries.

anyway another annoying think is that when a english athlete for instance wins a medal or something. that person would be called english but if it were a scottish person like Andy Murry then he would be called brittish so forigners would think 'english' it winds me up...

Scotland is now, for all intent and purpose, a seperate country with most of its bills being paid by English taxpayers.

With members of parliament allowed to vote in two Parliaments, and who have voted one way for certian things in the Scottish parliament and another way in the English parliament : for example student fees to be done away with in Scotland, whilst student fees were raised in England, and the English bill was only passed becasue of the Scots MP's votes, yet the English taxpayer foots the Scottish bill - Scotland cannot support itself with its own internal taxation without such a massive hike in taxes that you would hear the sound of them running for the border if you were in the south of France


So the English Taxpayer pays

The same English taxpayers they like to piss on at any available opportunity

Omg, I can't tell you how much I hate people refering to the UK as England! It's one of the most annoying things for me.

People ask me where I'm from, I say Wales and it's always 'Oh, that's in England right?' GRRR

With Americans, England is synonymous with the UK. I don't like it; the only acceptable use is when talking about European history before the UK in its present form existed. Also, when people say [Great] Britain it's really irritating because [Great] Britain is an island. Also, England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland are not technically countries. They're constituencies, in itself self-governing and self-divided "states" that form one country. You can't have four countries make one country, it doesn't make sense, does it?
