The chart star returned to the stage with a sell-out show at the BBC Electric Proms at London's Roundhouse.

The show was also being screened by more than 250 cinemas across 23 countries to set a new Guinness World Record for the most simultaneous cinematic screenings of a live concert.

Tens of thousands of the singer's fans across Europe watched the show as it happened through a deal by BBC Worldwide Music.
Williams, who is at number two in the charts with latest single Bodies, was previewing tracks from forthcoming album Reality Killed the Video Star, as well as classic tracks, accompanied by a string section, horn section and a full band.

The entertainer is no stranger to setting records. He last did so in 2006 when his epic Close Encounters tour sold 1.6 million tickets in a single day.

Guinness World Records editor-in-chief Craig Glenday said: ''It's been a few years since we've seen Robbie in the record books, so it's great to see him back on stage and breaking records.

''Robbie's been a multiple Guinness World Record holder thanks to his phenomenal chart successes in the past, and I'm sure this new record for most simultaneous cinematic screenings of a live concert will be the first of many more to come.''

The show will also be screened at an 8,000 seater auditorium in Mexico City later this month plus 18 cinemas in Australia, 20 cinemas in South Africa and seven cinemas in New Zealand next month.

Due to Williams's huge international popularity, not only was the show much sought-after on screen but he was due to reach an estimated radio audience of 33 million across 22 radio stations in Europe and overseas.

Stephen Davies, director of audio and music at BBC Worldwide said: ''We knew that there would be significant interest in this concert, but the public reaction has exceeded all of our expectations.''

Robbie Williams overcame his nervous X Factor comeback with a spine-tingling opening performance of the BBC Proms last night.


It was his first full live gig in three years showcasing his new album, Reality Killed The Radio Star.


And unlike the performance on the ITV show, he nailed it. Before the show at the Roundhouse in Camden he was said to be shaking.


But with a 38-man orchestra, two drummers and opera singer Olivia Safe – and knowing he was about to break a record for the most screened live performance worldwide – he got his mojo back.

After looking shaky on X Factor just over a week ago, the pressure was on to prove he's still got it.

I'm relieved to say he certainly has, and maybe a bit more besides.

It took until halfway through opener Bodies for him - and us - to relax. Next there was Morning Sun, another new one.

Then he put his foot down with a storming version of Come Undone.

The 90-minute show saw Robbie destroy the ghost of X Factor and Rudebox. Now he's back to Entertain You.


ROBBIE'S new album title was inspired by a failed attempt to reunite with his first girlfriend.

Reality Killed The Video Star, to be released on November 9, harks back to a painful period in his life, before he met current partner Ayda Field.

He told Radio 1: "I was trying to reconnect with my first partner and it didn't work out. It was a really sad situation so I wrote this song called Reality Killed The Video Star because when I was with her I wasn't a video star and now that I am things had moved on.

"It wasn't until I started working with Trevor Horn that I remembered I had written it. We didn't record the song but I thought it was a good name for the record."

TV presenter Jonathan Wilkes has reiterated the promise made by pop star, Robbie Williams in 2006, claiming that he will return to Dublin to play a free gig.

The British-born talent, who has been friends with Robbie since they were kids, was brought on stage by his pal during a concert at Croke Park to join him in singing the aptly named, Me And My Shadow, as well as Strong.

However, the Angels singer was left red-faced when he attempted to make a spectacular entrance suspended from a gondola-like contraption over the stage, only for the mechanics to become stuck, leaving him dangling before he was rescued by technicians.

Afterwards, Williams admitted the show was a fiasco and vowed to the 80,000 fans he would play a gig for them for free by the end of 2006 to make up for it.

The gig has yet to materialise however, but according to Jonathan it could be on the horizon in the near future.

According to Jonathan: "Yeah I'm sure once the tour's been announced, Rob will make sure Ireland is a priority.

"I was with him in Croke Park, we did a duet together. I knew I was going to get asked about the free gig.

"I just thought when I was flying over here, people are going to ask me about this free gig.

"But I mean it was a great gig, it was still brilliant, there was only one thing that went wrong.

"I think, yeah, he probably rues the day he mentioned the free part, but I'm sure the Irish won't let him forget it," he added.

Meanwhile, Jonathan paid tribute to his late friend, Stephen Gately, whom he knew through their mutual love of musicals.

Jonathan explained how the pair both went for the same audition several years ago and had remained close ever since.

"I knew him very, very well," he explained. "I will never forget the time he was doing an audition and I was in as well, we were up against each other.

"I only sat at a table with him a few weeks ago, right next to him. His partner, Andrew is such a lovely, lovely guy.

"I'm just gob-smacked by it all. I know everyone's saying it but it's true. He really was a lovely lad.

What a lovely audience the other night..
I know listening to new stuff can be a bit of a bore..But everyone was
lovely and received it with kind hearts and consideration
so thank you very much....
I wasn't aware until last night (after the gig) that the X Factor
peformance was given such an horrendous kicking.....
Oh well,you win some......
neither was i aware that the roundhouse thing was being beamed into
cinemas..i kind of heard it being mentioned but i think selective
hearing must have been in action at the time.....

I spotted players from two of the biggest live promoters, SJM Concerts (who put on TAKE THAT's Circus show this summer) and Metropolis Music, hanging around backstage.
