Example and Red Hot Chili Peppers have stormed the singles and albums charts this week.

Example's 'Stay Awake' is on course for the top spot on the singles chart this Sunday, closely followed by Ed Sheeran's 'You Need Me, I Don't Need You', which enters at two.

Meanwhile, Cover Drive land at number eight with their debut single 'Lick Ya Down', and Bruno Mars's 'Marry You' remains on the edge of the top ten at 11.

Nicole Scherzinger's 'Wet' climbs four places from last week to 21, Florence + the Machine remain at 24 with 'What the Water Gave Me', and David Guetta and Nicki Minaj's 'Turn Me On' starts at 39.

On the albums chart, Red Hot Chili Peppers look likely to score their third number one album with I'm With You - their first record since 2006's chart-topping Stadium Arcadium.

Elsewhere, David Guetta's Nothing But The Beat enters at number two and Bombay Bicycle Club land at five with A Different Kind of Fix.

Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV debuts at seven, and Dolly Parton's Better Day is at nine.

Another dreadful no. 1 then

A pretty poor Top 10 apart from Jar Of Hearts.

How that Ed Sheeran guy is doing so well I will never know. :bored:

Its a shame most of the Number 1's these days seem to either be by rappers or X Factor products. I would much rather see artists like Florence + The Machine and Marina And The Diamonds have more success in the singles chart.

Pixie Lott has entered the UK midweek chart at number one with her new single.

The singer has topped the chart with 'All About Tonight', while pop five-piece The Saturdays closely trail with their new track 'All Fired Up'.

Maroon 5 slip a place down to three with Christina Aguilera collaboration 'Moves Like Jagger' and Leona Lewis enters the chart at four with new single 'Collide'.

Former number one 'Stay Awake' by Example tumbles to five, while Sean Kingston's 'Party All Night' continues to rise by moving up two places to eight.

Snow Patrol are lingering just outside the top ten at 11 with new track 'Called Out In The Dark' and Adele's 'Someone Like You' shoots up 13 places to 14 following her performance on last week's MTV VMAs.

Further down the chart, Ms. Dynamite enters at 26 with her new song 'Neva Soft', and the latest cut from Rihanna's Loud, 'Cheers (Drink To That)', lands at 28.

Example has topped the midweek album chart with his third studio record Playing In The Shadows.

Adele moves up two places to two with 21, while David Guetta's Nothing But The Beat completes the top three.

Further new entries come from Doris Day with her new album My Heart, which is currently sitting at number nine, and Santo Spirito Blues by Chris Rea, which rounds off the top ten.

The Drums land at 29 with Portamento, while Melanie C cracks the top 40 with The Sea, which currently resides at 31.

07-09-2011, 07:11 PM
That's the thing, they've clearly realised that they will never release anything with lyrical merit that'll score a #1 so they've turned to the club vibe in the hopes that that'll do it for them. It won't. Everybody knows they're rubbish.

One Direction have stormed to the top of the UK singles chart with their debut release 'What Makes You Beautiful'.

The X Factor boyband - known individually as Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson - achieved the biggest first-week sales of 2011 after shifting over 153,000 copies of their eagerly-anticipated track.

The group's tally is ahead of the numbers posted by established artists such as Adele, Bruno Mars and Jennifer Lopez, who have also managed to exceed 100,000 sales in one week with their releases throughout the year.

Last week's number one 'All About Tonight' by Pixie Lott is bumped down to third place behind Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera with 'Moves Like Jagger', while Olly Murs climbs two to four with Rizzle Kicks team-up 'Heart Skips A Beat'.

Will Young returns to the single digits this Sunday with 'Jealousy', which is up to nine from 12, and Leona Lewis - the third X Factor act in this week's Top 10 - crashes six places from four with 'Collide'.

Album chart champion Ed Sheeran drops two to 12 with his latest track 'You Need Me, I Don't Need You' as its + predecessor 'The A Team' climbs four to 14, squashing in beside 'Marry You' by Bruno Mars at 13.

Also rising this week is 'Cheers (Drink To That)', the sixth release from Rihanna's fifth studio Loud, which is up a massive 11 places to 15 in its sixth Sunday on the chart.

Snow Patrol and Wretch 32, however, come tumbling down five and four places respectively to 16 and 17 with 'Called Out In The Dark' and 'Don't Go'.

The top half of the chart concludes with 'Who's Laughing Now' by Jessie J climbing three to 18, Rizzle Kicks tripping from 15 to 19 with 'Down With The Trumpets' and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds scoring a new entry at 20 with 'AKA...What A Life!'

The Top 10 in full:

1. (-) One Direction: 'What Makes You Beautiful'
2. (2) Maroon 5 ft. Christina Aguilera: 'Moves Like Jagger'
3. (1) Pixie Lott: 'All About Tonight'
4. (6) Olly Murs ft. Rizzle Kicks: 'Heart Skips A Beat'
5. (3) The Saturdays: 'All Fired Up'
6. (5) Example: 'Stay Awake'
7. (7) Calvin Harris: 'Feel So Close'
8. (8) Christina Perri: 'Jar Of Hearts'
9. (12) Will Young: 'Jealousy'
10. (4) Leona Lewis ft. Avicii: 'Collide'

It all sounds similar. I do like a lot of it, but it is true. I would be okay with it if there were more genres. I do my own weekly chart based on what I listen to most per week and it's always a lot more diverse and I look at it and wish the real chart had more than about 3 genres :joker:

I know, I got addicted to it (yeah addicted to a chart, a bit odd) at the end of 2009 and was fascinated by how it works and how in depth it is and how they measure airplay. It wouldn't work over here, it'd just add to the length of which songs are #1 as you said (look at black eyed peas having 26 weeks @ #1 in america in 2009) but I think it's great.

It's a much better chart overall and I like how songs can gradually climb to #1 over there, too. I know Rolling In the Deep took a few months to get to #1 over there, unlike over here where a song always debuts at #1 then shoots down the chart week after week. Airplay being added to the chart would be awful over here, because the radio stations always prioritise British artists even if the songs are crap, and the same songs get played constantly.

It is. I love that a song going straight to number one is a big thing there, rather than it being normal. Watching the song slowly climb or have a big surge in popularity like Hey, soul sister is cool. The only thing I don't like is how long a song stays on the chart, and how long it takes some songs to climb. I don't really like the way the music industry works over here. I find it ridiculous that Radio 1 pretty much decides the fate of everyone's careers. How is it that somebody can go and devote 2 years of their life, putting their heart and soul into an album, only for Radio 1 to decide that the public won't like it so they're not going to play it. It's the most illogical thing. The public are herded into liking songs they hear through a combination of personal taste and exposure - it pisses me off that Wretch 32, for example, has been pushed forward from the pack as this "amazing new artist" (and that's no comment on how good or bad he is) when there are countless other artists who are just as talented, perhaps more so, who don't get given a chance.

This is just my personal taste, but I hope people recognise this regardless, but I think Mutya Buena is a wonderfully talented singer who should be celebrated in this country. It pisses me off, therefore, to see her score three top 20 hits and then for her label to see that as a bit of a flop so to abandon promoting her entirely and watch as her next two singles tank and suddenly she's disappeared off the face of the music industry, with only the occasional collaboration. I don't know the ins and outs of the situation, but I think it's just one example of how weirdly cut throat the music industry can be. I think there are far too many one hit wonders who aren't given a second chance by the industry. I could rant about this for hours...

Harry!

Yeah, there wasn't much promo at all but I think it's a perfect example of a good song doing well. It had good airplay too IIRC. Me too on both accounts, lots of promo for the new era would be fab!

Sugababes have derailed again, not too sure what the deal is but apparently Freedom is now no longer a single but just a "promotional buzz" and is being distributed for free through Amazon?! So I've no idea if that means it's eligible to chart or what - but it's not been playlisted by Radio 1 or Capital FM so it seems like they've decided to give up rather than be embarrassed further...

Rihanna has broken a UK singles chart record by taking her latest track 'We Found Love' to number one.

The Bajan singer becomes the first female solo artist to top the chart six times in five consecutive years, having previously held pole position with 'Umbrella', 'Take A Bow', 'Run This Town', 'Only Girl (In The World)' and 'What's My Name' between 2007 and January this year.

'We Found Love', which also features veteran producer Calvin Harris, sold over 87,000 copies within just four days of release. It serves as the lead track from Rihanna's upcoming sixth studio album Talk That Talk.

Rihanna's late arrival prevents Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera from finally breaking through to the top spot, as 'Moves Like Jagger' settles for second-place for a sixth week in a row.

Outgoing number one 'Loca People' by Sak Noel drops down to third, One Direction gain a place with 'What Makes You Beautiful' at four and Goo Goo Dolls finish the top five with 'Iris', which leapt back to the single digits last Sunday after it was covered by X Factor finalist Frankie Cocozza.

A few spots behind are electric hip-hop duo LMFAO, who glide to seven from 20 with the week's highest climber 'Sexy And I Know It'.

Elsewhere, Pixie Lott crashes out of the Top 10 for the first time with 'All About Tonight', down five to 14, David Guetta and Usher team-up 'Without You' jumps to 15 from 18 and Rihanna celebrates a second appearance in the Top 20 on Nicki Minaj track 'Fly', which is up eight at 16.

Calvin Harris and Bruno Mars fall five apiece to 18 and 19 with 'Feel So Close' and 'Marry You', while the top 20 concludes with Charlene Soraia and her cover of The Calling classic 'Wherever You Will Go', a new entry this Sunday.

The Top 10 in full:

1. (-) Rihanna ft. Calvin Harris: 'We Found Love'
2. (2) Maroon 5 ft. Christina Aguilera: 'Moves Like Jagger'
3. (1) Sak Noel: 'Loca People'
4. (5) One Direction: 'What Makes You Beautiful'
5. (3) Goo Goo Dolls: 'Iris'
6. (4) Dappy: 'No Regrets'
7. (20) LMFAO: 'Sexy And I Know It'
8. (6) James Morrison: 'I Won't Let You Go'
9. (7) Jason Derulo: 'It Girl'
10. (10) Bad Meets Evil ft. Bruno Mars: 'Lighters'

Poor Maroon 5

Professor Green has scored his first UK singles chart number one with Emeli Sandé collaboration 'Read All About It'.

The Hackney-born rapper's fifth studio release sold over 153,000 copies in its first week, just 1% less than the total achieved by 2011's fastest-selling single so far, 'What Makes You Beautiful' by One Direction.

This week's runner-ups Labrinth and Tinie Tempah also post impressive seven-day sales of 115,000 copies for their latest team-up 'Earthquake', while previous number one 'We Found Love' by Rihanna and Calvin Harris settles in at three.

Elsehwere, Kelly Clarkson boosts two to four with 'Mr Know It All' and Charlene Soraia dips to six with The Calling favourite 'Wherever You Will Go'

Rizzle Kicks, meanwhile, debut at eight with 'When I Was A Youngster', last week's runner-up 'Lightning' by The Wanted crashes to nine and Gym Class Heroes complete the Top 10 with their Adam Levine team-up 'Stereo Hearts', which is down five.

Christina Perri's X Factor-fuelled return to the Top 10 ends as 'Jar Of Hearts' drops four to 11, while Ed Sheeran zooms in the opposite direction with 'Lego House', at 12 from last week's 18.

Lana Del Rey drops six to 15 with 'Video Games', landing between new entries 'Paradise' from album chart champions Coldplay and 'You Make Me Feel' by Cobra Starship at 14 and 16 respectively.

Meanwhile, 'Got 2 Luv U' by Sean Paul and Alexis Jordan tumbles six to 17, Bruno Mars scores a new entry at 19 with 'Runaway Baby' and Ed Sheeran appears again to wrap up the top half of the chart with 'The A Team', which is down six from 14.

The Top 10 in full:

1. (-) Professor Green ft. Emeli Sandé: 'Read All About It'
2. (-) Labrinth ft. Tinie Tempah: 'Earthquake'
3. (1) Rihanna ft. Calvin Harris: 'We Found Love'
4. (6) Kelly Clarkson: 'Mr Know It All'
5. (4) Maroon 5 ft. Christina Aguilera: 'Moves Like Jagger'
6. (3) Charlene Soraia: 'Wherever You Will Go'
7. (8) LMFAO: 'Sexy And I Know It'
8. (-) Rizzle Kicks: 'When I Was A Youngster'
9. (2) The Wanted: 'Lightning'
10. (6) Gym Class Heroes ft. Adam Levine: 'Stereo Hearts'

The top two are atrocious but Kelly rose 2 places :amazed:

7. (10) David Guetta ft. Usher: 'Without You'

10. (-) Pixie Lott ft. Pusha T: 'What Do You Take Me For'

meh, I feel like I should be pleased that there's no auto tune and that it's not chavy and that it sounds like real music with meaningful lyrics..

But it's not that good.

Madonna #37 looooool

Most of the purchases were disqualified because it was offered as an instant grat to anyone who pre-ordered the album. If they had been included it would have charted much higher.

FYI the Give Me All Your Luvin' download with MDNA was NOT free. Many fans have reported that 99p WAS taken from accounts.

Madonna is still @ 37 on itunes so even if all the sales were counted, she'd still have a massive fall next week.

Oh and DJ Fresh has already overtaken :bored:

Yeah exactly but the chart people don't care about that, because it was offered as part of a pre-order all sales were not counted.

Madonna has always been a big physical seller anyway, I remember Celebration didn't do that well on iTunes but with physicals combined it made the top 3. Hopefully same thing will happen with GMAYL.

Added together the vast MAJORITY of sales were sold Sunday-Tuesday!!! It is not about literally how many days it is about the amount of sales perchased.

Casual fans would not have perchased another copy if they got it for "free".

At least it did better than Miles Away, which reached number 39 with no promo.

As Callam has said it made the top 3 and that had very little promo.

even if they were counted though, it'd have only charted in the 20's, it's been selling crap all week

Like I previously said Madonna has always been a big physical seller. Even though it's out of trend to buy physical CD singles these days, Madonna still manages to do well from them so when GMAYL is released physically it could still go top ten.

Rebecca Ferguson is up to #10

Gotye was #4 & Whitney sold 78,000 copies of various albums

Hot Right Now #1 single, even though it shoulda been Emeli

Madonna flopped harder than a sack of **** and fell to 51 http://gagadaily.com/public/style_emoticons/default/lmao.gif

Madonna has done hardly any promo other then the Super Bowl so it does not surprise me, maybe if it had done better the week before more people would have noticed it...

Also Radio stations are refusuing to play the song of ageist grounds.

Also Gaga fans should hardly be laughing considering Gaga's last two singles (You and I and Marry the Night) failed to the make the top 10. Gaga has not had a UK #1 single with her BTW era.

Radio 1 aren't playing it you're right and they never played Celebration either. They are an ageist radio station. Plus I don't think it's on Capital FM's Playlist either. What do people expect when the radios aren't supporting it?

Gotye climbed back to #1, really pleased how well this song's doing. I didn't expect it to have this much success.

Adele spends a record extending 21st week at number one on the Albums chart :worship:

Hopefully Gotye can keep hold at #1 next week and keep the awful Dappy from the top spot. It's already appalling that he has one UK #1 single, let's hope he doesn't get another.
