I have Tetany crisis and it's absolutely annoying and I also have migraines, so when they mix up I want to crush my head against a wall.

I suffered from them massively when I lived on my own but what with everything that went on they have come back with vengeance.
I cant sit still, can read, cant sleep and when I do sleep I wake with startles in the night

I've tried to google this but there doesnt seem to be an explanation of what it is. Is it heightened anxiety?

The acute crisis of tetany appears generally on spasmophilic backgrounds, triggered most often by stress and anxiety. Always benign, it can however be quite annoying because of its length. The authors study that crisis successively from an etiological, therapeutical and preventive point of view.

I used to get them all during last summer , when I was dead convinced that the house was being broken in to virtually every night. I guess it links somehow to be being manic depressive.

I had one the other week just before my drama exam. I know it may sound pathetic but I couldn't breathe and couldn't even stand up.

I think I might have had one before?
I was at a school resendential staying at one of those reconstructed Victorian towns and I woke up at about 4am. I saw this weird white thing wlaking closer and closer and it wouldn't go away. I was so **** scared. I was shaking uncontrolably and couldn't even shout out to someone to wake up. Eventually I plucked up the courage and kicked my friends bed above me. He woke up and it dissappeared. One of the weirdest and without a a doubt the scariest momment of my life.
Only advice I can give is sip water. It cools and calms you down.

Surely the valium should work with it being fairly strong? I had accpunture (not worth it lol) hypnotherapy which did actually help, made me alot calmer.

Sorry to hear that. ^^^^^^
I had one once and it was years ago. I injured my ribs on a fairground ride. The next day when I went to work the pain seemed to be getting greater and greater. I started to panic, thinking I had broken them or something. The pain increased and I was getting in an anxious state. Everyone was fussing round me and some were going to call an ambulance. That just made me worse. Somebody drove me to hospital.
Whilst I was in the car, I thought I was having a stroke or something. I became semi-paralysed, and I couldnt function correctly. I couldn't move my fingers and stuff like that. By the time I got into A&E, I couldn't speak properly and all my speech was slurred. I couldn't understand why they were leaving me there and not doing anything and by this time I was really upset.
It was at this point that another patient came over and told me I was having a panic attack. He took me outside, sat me down, and gave me a brown paper bag to breathe in and it worked. I was back to normal in a few minutes. Apparently, because I had increased breathing, I was taking in too much oxygen. I felt very stupid after that and left the hospital after thanking him. I was fine after that and have never had one since.
So next time anyone has one, try breathing slowly into a paper bag and see if it works for you.

Thanks guys,
Your right Baz, its all about controlling your breathing and trying not to breath in more than you breath out.... well thats what Red tells me to do.
Mine have gone past the breathing stage to where I have to withdraw myself completely and sit or else it just snowballs. Its horrid because I feel like I am claustrophobic but I am unable to leave the house because of shear panic.
Like many people have said who have experienced one, they arent nice.

I cannot even control my breathing, it goes wild and goes to the point of biting something (last time it was my mobile phone). I cannot eat and cannot drink something, I just have to wait basically.
And yes you are right, they aren't nice at all.

Have you tried to good old fashioned breathing in and out of a paper bag? it really does work as you concentrate on making sure you inflate and defalte the bag which takes your mind off the panic.

It's wierd when you have one isn't it and you don't know what is happening to you? Its awful, the only way i can describe it is its like you cant breathe fully (if you know what i mean lol) its like you can only take in little bits of air and thats it  x

Glad to hear you have not had one recently. As you say, stressful situations can bring them on.

I havent tried that, once my breathing goes I can calm myself down (with a lot of help from Red) because I know that the panic is manifesting itself in my breathing. Its the run up to the attack thats the worst, it can last all day. Sheer dread comes to mind and body and sometimes there are no reasons for it.

I think that once we are out of this house and away from the city things will be a lot easier. Plus I will be near my family which is always nice.
Our buyers are dragging their heals and our vendor wont wait much longer which is really stressing me out :bored:

Well whatever you and Red are doing to help calm yourself it seems to be working. I dont think there is a real miracle answer for this type of thing, you just have to do what helps at the time.
