Hi!
My year group has just been given our work experience forms. Were going to be doing it on 13th October - 17th October, a long way away i know but still, I was just wondering if anybody else on Tibb has done work experience yet? And if so what did you do? I really need some ideas lol.
I dont know whether id like to do something arty, something ivolving ICT or something involving business. I want to stay away from working in shops (not that theres anything wronge with that kind of work lol). My mum has told me she would like it if i worked in her office but i dont really want to. I suggested going to work in a nursery (because my friend did it and said she really enjoyed it), but my mum disagrees and says that unless i want to work with children when im older then it isnt going to help.
Any suggestions?? :puzzled:

I worked at a primary school and I have no intentions of becoming a teacher whatsoever.
I did it for the skills of working with children and communication; which'll come in handy for me in the future.

Aww, see thats why i thought of going to a nursery but my mum seems to disagree with that . I keep telling her its just to get us used to working and commitment but she dosent listen. She keeps telling me shes helped me with suggestions when all shes given me is office work x

Well I did a playschool and a primary school which I LOVED. But I want to work with children.
I know most people just went to random offices and did photocopying for about a week. I like the sound of something arty but have no idea what you could do! Arty people in my year went to architetes(I can't spell)
Good luck!

I went to a primary school for my work experience and it was the worst week of my life.
The teachers there gave me no jobs to do so I sat in a classroom all day talking to year 6 kids for a whole week. The assistant teachers there were just bitches they kept telling the head teacher I was chewing gum just because one of them was going to get the sack at the end of the week and they thought if they told on me they would keep their jobs. The head teacher threatened to throw me off my placement because I was chewing gum and called the children names. I hated the whole experience the teachers were nasty, the kids were nasty and it was just boring.

Most of my friends when they did it had nothing to do with what they want to do in the future, like one of my friends worked in an ice cream cafe and she wants to be a lawyer or something and others worked in office's
I worked at my old primary which was ok.. just a tad boring at times.
But it made me know that I seriously don't want a job in teaching.

And plus that wasnt really your fault if the teachers never gave you any jobs to do, what else were you ment to do? x

No I think it would be fun at a nursery, I would be so immature and just play about with the kids. Its the teachers fault, I bet if I went to a different school with different teacher I would have enjoyed it.

Well I usually work in the luxury ones you know (thanks to my father lol). You really need to have a strong character, nothing is easy, you need to shut up but also to be very professional. You must not be lazy lol And you earn a lot of ££££

i did my work experience last year.. at the Halifax - Bank of Sotland headquarter's resturaunt. it was cool i got to serve customers at the costa coffee station, refill the buildings vending machines, work as assistant chef and re-stock the larder.. it was good fun !
I did mine about 5 years ago at a shop called Ethel Austin. There wasn't really too many options for us other than schools, shops or sports places. All the sports placements got snapped up pretty quickly and I got left with one of the shops nobody really wanted to work at.
I suppose it was an okay job.I spent most of the time in the stock room on my own, taking a load of deliveries and then putting the stock out on the shop floor.I worked with a bunch of old women, so it wasn't the most exciting week of my life.By the end of the week I was working on the tills during a mad rush, quite funny.
The best bit about it was when my mates would come into the shop during their breaks and just mess around.Lunch times were always the best part of the day though, getting to meet up with mates and just have a laugh in the town centre.
The shop closed a few months after I left.Obviously couldn't cope without me

I asked my tutor if i could work in the Channel 4 Headquarters in Westminster next year! She said She will try and fix it up for me! I'm like 95% sure that i won't be doing my work experience there lol! But there's no harm in trying? is there?!
I mean even if i do, they wont tell me anything about BB lol!

Work experience is more about giving you a taste about what it is like to attend work on a daily basis, time keeping, taking instructions, etc. rather than where you actually do the placement.
I have just started a new job and we are taking a young person on work experience at the end of June from year 10 then we are taking a 6th former in July. I think it will be great for us and the young person as it will give them the opportunity to see what it is like working in a team, and seeing how everyone performs their jobs. I have to think about a project for the 6th former as they are a Business Studies student.

Bit of a late reply but I went to a playgroup/preschool in march/april time of this year and I loved it, didn't have to do much just played with the kids and cleaned up after them for a week  tended to get covered in paint and sand more than the kids though

I can't believe it was a year since Work Experience lmao I remember it like it was yesterday. =/
I went to ... and old person's day centre lmfao.. it sounds boring but it was actually really fun! i had to serve them tea and toast, serve dinner [i had to wear a hair net, it was so embarrassing], i played bingo LOL, and did arm chair exercise!. All the staff were extremely friendly and they gave me free dinner everyday, free drinks, and at the end of the week, they gave me a card, a slab of chocolate and £10. Each week they take out some of them for a meal, or the safari park lol, so one of the days, they took us about 45 minutes away for a meal, they paid for me and everything. They were all sooo nice. I really enjoyed it!

Aw id love to do that! And id be experianced as im a young carer for my nan. Aw im jelous lol x

Oh wow. I feel so much older than you all, work experience bless. ^.^
For mine I went to an army training base for a week. Got away from my mum and dad at the time and got a drink with my pals in our room at night.
We got to go absailing, rock climbing and paintballing.
I wish real work was like that. :(

i worked at my old primary school and i dont ever even want to be a teacher or work with kids because i hate them .. i chose it because its just like a 2 minuit walk from my house tehe
i suggest you choose something which sort of actually fits in with what your thinking of doing when your older!

Ah yeah, take your mobile or something to cure the boredom. I made one of my friends take her mobile and we'd just text each other instead of working lmao.
Good luck with it...especially if your filing or something. *faints*
I did mine at the start of September...
I was at a bank... a long away away from a TV studio.... LOL
