The composer for the hit TV series 'Dexter' has taken over from Akira Yamaoka

From the trailer it looks like we play as an escaped convict

I wasn't keen on the trailer, it looks like they've gone back to the old style which just feels a bit overdone now.

I watched it a few times, I think this could turn out to be an interesting game

Apparently Murphy, the guy, will fight using the objects around him, the monster design, from the brief shots we saw, looked a lot creepier than recent efforts and SH looks pretty cool

The recent SH was onto a winner by taking out the combat really. It's by far the worst aspect of the previous games.

I disagree, the no combat thing was the worst thing about SHSM (which I loved)

I preferred the running over the clunky fighting the series has always presented. All they need to do is make the running away a bit more thrilling maybe by making the monsters more unpredictable or having more chase you at once so you never know where another monster might pop out next.

I only played a short bit of SM but it was miles better then Homecoming and The Room and to me this just feels like they're going backwards.

Not necessarily, the gameplay looked similar to SHSM (using a torch when walking around) it seems like we will actually have a choice to kill the monsters this time instead of pegging it

The running approach may look appealing at first, but trust me, at the end of the game you just want to hit something

True I guess, Maybe they should have looked to games like Clock Tower where you can only run from the enemies but they made it incredibly tense and scary at the same time by putting in systems like a fear meter where if you got too scared you'd be likely to trip over and make mistakes while being chased.

I'm hoping the fighting system is not as clumsy as the other games but I'm not holding my breath.

Scarlett.

It deffo wont be the clunky system we used to have :p

Plus Devin and Tomm produced SHSM together, and now they're producing this together, which is a very good sign, the seires is finally getting a continuous team

Sudden spark of activity with the franchise.

Silent Hill: Origins and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories are coming to PlayStation Network. A firm release date will be announced soon.

The two games, originally released for the PSP, are priced at £7.99 (US pricing TBC), and stand slightly apart from the rest of the series.

Silent Hill: Origins is a prequel to series, following the truck driver Travis Grady who finds himself in the inevitably foggy town looking into the mystery. Meanwhile, Shattered Memories is a sort of reimagining of the original Silent Hill game, featuring a similar set-up but the plot changes depending on the players decisions.

IGN gave Origins a 8.0, Great: "With a good storyline, intriguing gameplay elements and excellent production and replay value, Origins is definitely worthy of a Silent Hill fan's attention."

And IGN gave Shattered Memories a 7.0, Good: "Shattered Memories isn't your typical Silent Hill game. Some devoted fans will undoubtedly raise a fuss over every difference whether subtle or grand, but I believe this re-imagining succeeds as both a sequel and a departure."

It's a decent game, very different from the rest of the franchise, but that is what made it one of my favourites.

IDW’s comic book side-story to Silent Hill: Downpour still lives. At WonderCon 2014 the comic book publisher announced that Anne’s Story, a comic book series that follows officer Anne Cunningham’s personal adventure through Silent Hill will begin this summer.

Anne’s Story was announced quite some time ago and seemed to have been put to the side, perhaps never to see the light of day. Silent Hill: Downpour itself released two years ago as of last month, and it didn’t seem to do so well critically and in stores. Despite this, we’re still getting this side-story – and I’m quite happy about that. I very much enjoyed Downpour, and a story focused on Anne’s personal experiences would be very much appreciated.

IDW sent over some information and images (see below) for the series. Silent Hill: Downpour Anne’s Story is being written by Tom Waltz and illustrated by Tristan Jones. Issue #1 will be releasing on August 20 for $3.99 and several cover variants by different artists will be available. Howard Blackwood, the enigmatic postman of Silent Hill is said to make a return along with other characters.

Here’s hoping the sudden revival of this project hints at some more Silent Hill content that’s not just merchandise; I want stories!

Hmm, even more Silent Hill activity.
