Since the housemates get them from time to time, I thought I would go and get some chickpeas

Chickpea hummus with a pitta bread dip.

Is how to make the dip.

It's not very exciting though. I know someone who makes a chickpea curry but I'm not sure how.

Have not tried them yet

According to the person in the shop and on the packet you have to soak them overnight

Can you get away with not having to do that?

As Sunday is a moveable feast re eating, I am delayed until later on in the week before I can try cooking with them, assuming I still have to do an overnight soak.

As far as I know, soaking them over night is just to soften them up and brings the flavour out in them (you can soak them in water with salt/soda too intensify the flavour).
