Here is the updates, which i found interesting, from the second semi final rehersal!

Hot favourites Norway next. Alexander Rybak is dressed in black with a white shirt. Three backing dancers perform traditional routines. Two female backing vocalists are dressed in pink and maroon dresses. The set is highly impressive, Norwegian wooden houses lit at night, with a night sky displaying the moon and stars and fireworks. Pyrotechnic effects also meant that there were fireworks on stage too. The reception was good, although there were a small number of people actually booing the performance.

Loud cheering greeted Sakis Rouvas arrival on stage for Greece. Sakis has a lit platform on the stage, he is dressed in a white polo shirt and white trousers. Sakis glides across the platform throughout the song. Four backing dancers join him. Sakis leaps from the stage at the start of every chorus. The platform raises at the end of the song. The LED backdrop has a city feel and skyscrapers. Greece enjoyed the loudest reception of any song today so far.

Svetlana Loboda and her hell machines from Ukraine are up next. This is a busy performance. Svetlana has three male dancers wearing very little. She herself is dressed in a red skimpy dress and glittering long black boots. Expanding springs are on the LED screens. Svetlana moves to a set of drums near the end of the song, which has two Ukrainian flags at the side of it, and she procceds to play them. Again, fire and pyrotechnics feature, and the choreography is very slick and well rehearsed.

Cant believe Ireland didnt get through :(

The Dress Rehersal for the final was today - when the judging panels from each country watched and judged the performances for saturdays final.

This is how they described Jade's Performance :

''The UK's entry this year is also seen as one of the hottest favourite for the trophy this year. Jade Ewen's song It's My Time has been composed by musical legend Andrew Lloyd-Webber together with famous lyricist Diane Warren. Mr. Lloyd-Webber will accompany Jade on stage tomorrow in the Grand Final, playing the piano. Vocally, Jade Ewen gave an extremely impressive performance today.''

Reading some of the YouTube comments I don't know how we will fair now, a lot saying its boring - I can't argue with that.

We still have A LOT of fans though, so maybe them and the judges will get us to at least the top 10.

Still really excited for tomorrow whatever the outcome though!

Wooo were back!!! I cant believe how much i suffered without the forum!!

Okayy, i dont normally support the UK for anything but i was just hoping that the UK would do well tonight and im really suprised and overwhelmed!!! 5th place is great, its the highest placing since 2002 and the highest points since they won in 1997.

But HOW did Norway win??

Spike
16-05-2009, 10:28 PM
Well done to Norway and for once the final score board really did reflect on quality
Love my four favourites of Sweeden, Norway, Germany and Ukraine on the night
and I am really impressed and shocked at how well the UK did but I don't know how we will go from here in choosing for next year. We now know we can win so do we go for the typical camp eurovision song or something similar to this years entry.

I genuinely don't see whats so great about Norway's song. Gutted Ukraine did so poorly.

We did well tonight, I thought it should have been us, Norway and the more fuller figure lady (Croatia I think? I can't remember, she was brilliant). The high school musical-esqueness of Norway paid off for them. Catchy song but I hated watching him, he's got a forced stage presence.

I wonder if ALW will write the song again next year?

I expected Ukraine to be the shock winner. I think it just underperformed.
I was so dissapointed when the UK was getting like 3 points from one country, last year we would be so pleased with that
This year was the year of change for Eurovision and it was successful

I was like "Who would like the Norway song in the UK?" and the UK voted it to get 8 points, i was like "Whyyy???", who did we choose for 12 pnts, was it Greece?? Because i liked that entry, I love the counrty as well, and they were the only country that gave us a 12.

I think theres a nice friendship between us and Greece, thats what i like about Eurovision, you can tell who likes who, i thought we would vote for our closest neighbours, but i like the fact that the country boundaries were broken this year and everyone was voting for different people.

missed wogan :'(
norway hardly broke a record though:
1) it was a new voting system
2) they've only done it by 42 countries for the past 10 or so years so it wasn't much to compete with; abba got like 25 points or something, so to say they got the most points so far was half true but half like... not

The judges must have made thier 1-12 points and added it to the publics 1-12 points then divided by two to make one set of 1-12 points i guess.

I think it was the same way in how they do the voting on Strictly Come Dancing or Dancing On Ice
The jury from each country gave points 1-12 and the public did too. They were added together to get the final results from each country and if there was a tie the public vote decided it.

I know this is crazy but wikipedia says this:

Eligibility to participate is not determined by geographic inclusion within the continent of Europe, despite the "Euro" in "Eurovision" — nor does it have a direct connection with the European Union. Several countries geographically outside the boundaries of Europe have competed: Israel, Cyprus and Armenia, in Western Asia, since 1973, 1981 and 2004 respectively; and Morocco, in North Africa, in the 1980 competition alone. In addition, several transcontinental countries with only part of their territory in Europe have competed: Turkey, since 1975; Russia, since 1994; Georgia, since 2007; and Azerbaijan, which made its first appearance in the 2008 edition. Two of the countries that have previously sought to enter the competition, Lebanon and Tunisia, in Western Asia and North Africa respectively, are also outside of Europe. The Gulf state of Qatar, in Western Asia, announced in 2009 its interest in joining the Contest in time for the 2011 edition.[20]

Fifty-one countries have participated at least once. These are listed here alongside the year in which they made their debut:

So really, the countries don't need to be european.
