Well yeah, i'm not the biggest lover of this country
The song could be brilliant but with the quality of the 4 acts still in with a chance of representing us I fail to see how we could have any chance of doing well.

I always get really geeky about this competition, and I tend to be more interested in the stage, and the branding of the whole thing.

Like, Helsinki 2007 had the best looking show EVER! The style with the pink/yellow/blue circles etc. It looked soo modern and stylish:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh24/justjoshhh/eurovision-theme.jpg

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_ATycdFaEbY&feature=related

Yeh, its geeky to be interested in all that but I do graphics in school so there!

But anyway, last year it all looked really bad with the navy blue and red. I hope Russia has nice branding =]

Does anybody else like seeing the Televoting more than the actual songs being performed? I love it when they go to each country, 'xciting! :cheer:

Never know Spike.. Good Luck to The UK.

Also Confirmed this year Greece's Sakis Rouvas will represent Greece.

Sakis sung Shake It back in 2004 and came 3rd. Lets remind ourselves of that video...

Sakis's song is yet to be confirmed.

She has left her record label because they treat her like utter s***. But its not all bad news. Accually thats great news. She has had some offers from 2005's winner Helena Paparizou's Label. Helena has asked to do a song with her :)

 We might have a chance this year. Look what i found on the BBC website.

Voting

The European Broadcasting Union has announced that in the Final of the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest, professional juries in all participating countries will have 50% influence on the result. Televoters will deliver the other 50% of the outcome.

Normally its something like the Jury have 20% of final vote. Maybe if the see sence.. We might get somewhere this year...?

JOSHUAH!
12-01-2009, 06:22 PM
Thats all to stop the 'Block Voting', such as countries next to each other voting for eachother - its mainly political more than a song contest.

Webber and Warren wrote UK song in two hours

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Diane Warren, together in charge of penning the UK song for this year's Eurovision Song Contest, admitted they already wrote the piece! My Time was written in two hours, and could be transformed into a ballad of a strong up-tempo piece. At least it didn't cost Webber and Warren much of their time to come up with a song for Moscow...

Famous composer Andrew Lloyd Webber is highly involved in this year's UK selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. In Your Country Needs You, a weekly elimination show on the BBC, TV-viewers and Webber look for the right person to represent their country on stage in Moscow, in front of some 100 million viewers. "If we win we shall have to host next year's show and it's going to cost £25 million - that's what the Russians are spending. Actually, it's probably going to cost £300 million by then, bearing in mind the pound will be valueless by that time," Webber jokes in the interview with The Daily Mail.

My Time

"The song is called My Time," Webber says. "It has been written in a way that it can be done by any of the remaining contestants, but I've come to the decision, rightly or wrongly, that what most countries will be doing, particularly in the stadium that's being used, is trying to fill it. Certainly the acts I've seen so far, they've all been pretty girls with four dancers, or pole vaulters or skaters or elephants or whatever."

The world of Eurovision

The artist who wins the UK national selection also gets a record deal with Universal. Webber: "The reason is simple. Which is the single biggest entertainment that's come out of musical theatre in ten years and out of musical film? Mamma Mia! Where did that start? Eurovision. What was the biggest live entertainment show around the world in the past ten years? Riverdance. Where did that come from? Eurovision. So if you've got the right artist and the right song it is not something to laugh at," he concludes.

You can read the full interview with Andrew Lloyd Webber, in which he reveals some amusing details about his visit to Russian Prime-Minister Vladimir Putin, on the website of The Daily Mail.

Agreed. Jade is our best chance, however she still has 0.0001% more chance of winning than other years. The UK should pull out. The good thing is the winner of Your Country Needs You wins a contract with Universal.

I don't think it's a waste of time. There is a big eastern block but that doesn't always mean someone from the east will win. Just most of the time..

The final songs have been picked for Britian's 3 Finalists!!!

And here they are:

Each act will sing three songs during the live show - one a new song they'll prepare just for the final, one a song that they performed earlier in the series... and most importantly, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Diane Warren's brand new Eurovision song, "My Time", which all three acts will perform live.

Mark: Try A Little Tenderness (The Commitments); Me And Mrs Jones (Billy Paul), My Time (Andrew Lloyd Webber and Diane Warren's Eurovision song).

The Twins: Sweet About Me (Gabriella Cilmi); The Promise (Girls Aloud), My Time (Andrew Lloyd Webber and Diane Warren's Eurovision song).

Jade: Lady Marmalade (Christina Aguilera, Pink, Mya and L'il Kim); Deja Vu (Beyonce), My Time (Andrew Lloyd Webber and Diane Warren's Eurovision song).

Which act will seize Eurovision glory? Which two acts will fall at the final fence?

Locke.

Theme art presented

The 54th Eurovision Song Contest has a look! Today, the Reference Group of the contest approved the design materials presented by Host Broadcaster Channel One Russia. This year's running will not be accompanied by a theme slogan, as did happen in previous years.

The colorful design, often referred to as the 'sub-logo', was made by The Red Square, the production company Channel One picked to work with for this year's Eurovision Song Contest. The main design element has the shape of a 'fantasy bird'. It can be applied on various colors and surfaces, both in its totality as well as in parts. It accompanies the generic Eurovision Song Contest logo, this year carrying the Russian flag.

I'm living in my fantasy world and i thought what we could do performance wise.. We have a huge stage to work with..

I was thinking Jade starting on on the floor just like she did in the performance above.. when she gets to the second verse and makes her way to the front of the stage with 2 back up singers..(In the performance 2:04) When she hits the not at 2:18 the back up singers drop their mics and grab a train at the back of her dress and run back with it.. the train is a sparkely version of the UK flag.. and they wave it like it's flying in the wind :wavey:

Wow.. im sad! But you get it? right?

"My Time" will be the British song in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009, to be held in Moscow, Russia in May 2009. The song has been composed and written by Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and Diane Warren.

The song will be sung by Jade Ewen as a result of her winning Eurovision: Your Country Needs You on 31 January. Lloyd Webber has said he will accompany Jade, by playing the piano on stage with her in Moscow.

Eurovision.tv can exclusively reveal the first artist impression of the stage of the 54th Eurovision Song Contest to you. The impressive structure, which radically breaks recent Eurovision Song Contest traditions, has been designed by New York-based set designer John Casey and has been revealed to the Heads of Delegation of the 43 participating countries earlier tonight.

Casey previously designed the stage for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1997 in Dublin, and was involved in 1994 and 1995 as well. "Even before I worked with the Russians on the TEFI Awards in Moscow in 1998, I was inspired by and drawn to art from the Russian Avant Garde period, especially the constructivists," Casey said to the website Livedesignonline.com. "Everything from this artistic time period - from the posters to the three dimensional constructions - has interesting perspective. The art presents an unexpected view or use of space. I've tried to come up with a theatrical design for the contest that incorporates Russian avant garde art into a contemporary setting, almost entirely made up of different types of LED screens," he explained.

A new era
The stage design for the upcoming running of Europe's favorite TV-show is one of the many signs that the Eurovision Song Contest is entering a new era. Last year, a second Semi-Final was introduced, while new rules made the outcome of the Semi-Finals more exciting and less predictable. Months ago, the European Broadcasting Union decided to re-introduce the involvement professional juries who will have a 50% say in the outcome of the Final. On top of that, the ambition to succeed in the competition seems to be bigger than ever across Europe, as many countries will be represented by their most popular, most successful and most experienced pop stars.

Stay tuned for more surprises in the lead up to the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest - you'll find them all on Eurovision.tv as we're getting closer to May!

AMAZING.
I'm such a geek when it comes to the logo and branding of the Eurovision. This years looks so much better than last years so far. Really modern stage.

OMG your so right about Finland's entry. I mean most of the songs I hear on Eurovision are like what I call "Eurovision" songs, which is a bad thing. But this one..is really catchy. I wish the UK would just realise that we don't have a chance lol I don't like our entry this year. I like Jade..just not the song. Even though I like musical songs, this one sounds like one and musical songs just aren't right for Eurovision in my book.

Also James, you'll be surprised but this years UK entry is tipped for success. Maybe not to win, but to at least come in the Top 10. Jade sang in Malta and she got a standing ovation.

hmmm well..i think people went over the top a bit about it being written by lloyd-webber and that other woman lol he's not really that type of song writer. he does musicals..not the eurovision. but maybe people will like it you know? i still don't understand why we have to keep entering unknowns, why dont we enter someone who people know and are good. btw im not saying jade isn't good.

I also LOVE THE FINLAND ENTRY. It's amazing and in my eyes can possibly be a winner.

Jade has also been a success in Greece, Turkey and Cyprus. My bet is that The UK will DEFENATLY not be in the bottom 5. They should be in the top 15

PLUS. Andrew Lloyd Webber will play piano on stage with Jade! That should get some more votes!

Remember TaTu.. The Russian lesbians..

The opening act of the first Semi-Final will feature the winners of the 2006 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, the Tolmachevy Sisters. The interval act will feature Russian choirs, that will finish with t.A.T.u's song Never Gonna Get Us. The two former Eurovision Song Contest participants are not expected to perform themselves, but anything is possible..!

The UK gets an automatic place because the BBC funds a lot of the Eurovision Song Contest, and has been involved for about 50 years.

Same with France, Spain, Germany.

Proper quote

"Big Four

From 1998 onwards, four particular countries would always qualify for the Eurovision final, regardless of their positions on the scoreboard in previous Contests. They earned this special status by being the four biggest financial contributors to the EBU (without which the production of the Eurovision Song Contest would not be possible). These countries are Germany, France, Spain and the United Kingdom. Due to their untouchable status in the Contest, these countries became known as the Big Four."

From what I've seen (distractions during revision!) I'd predict that Norway will win... seems to have the right combination of a number of things... look, sound, presentation, (type of country....)

Also I would say Finland, Greece, Romania have good chances... so would we, if we weren't the UK! And I like the German song too... no bias there, of course!!

From what I can understand there's a lot of controversy around the Russian entry. I personally dislike it. It's sung half Russian / half Ukranian by a Ukranian girl, who was on Star Factory, Russia's equivalent of Pop Idol... she said some very racist things whilst on the competition... one comment being along the lines of "Hitler had the right idea" ... Just thought i'd offer that up for discussion lol!

I hope you're both right! I personally like the Norwegian song, but of course we're all entitled to our own opinions.

I'm sure it must've been mentioned before on this thread, but we've been drawn the 23rd performance slot .... that's surely a reasonably good outcome? Helps it stick in the memory by performing later perhaps?

Well its 23rd out of 25 slots, I think thats pretty good actually, and it sort of seems like a big ballad finish that may stick in the voters heads. This year we've done a promotional tour, people know the song as its pretty easy to remember the lyrics, its simple and stylish.

With ALW on stage aswell, I think the judges will give us good marks, I suppose a big margain of the votes still has to do with the televoters, and its obviously that Denmark will vote for Norway or whichever, as they all have their little cliques with eachother.

Spain - Portugal ?

Ireland's delegation not happy with production in rehersals

At the start of yesterdays Irish press conference which followed yesterday's second technical rehearsal for this year's Eurovision Song Contest entry for Ireland a statement was made by the Head of the Irish Delegation Julian Vignoles. He voiced his dissatisfaction regarding the host broadcaster Channel One Russia on the inconsistent approach used by production team on the camera presentation.
Mr Vignoles said, "we have just come from a difficult session in the viewing room. We have been extremely disappointed by the coverage we’ve got in terms of the multi camera directing and the shots, and it would be a waste of time to come here and pretend otherwise."

He added, "The rehearsal has gone a little bit backwards in a lot of ways from where we were in our first rehearsal and this is most disturbing and demoralising for Sinéad and the girls, and it’s something that the production will have to take into account."

Furthermore, "I think that perhaps we aren’t the only country that is suffering in this way but there are some very basic televisual rules not being observed in the cutting. Cameras are doing things they shouldn’t do, they are doing things that they’re not sure of and they are not being cut very well."

He was complimentary in saying that he knew the whole production team were working very hard but felt that, with a four day break before the start of the dress rehearsals, everything "should be in much better shape. I think that they need to get their act together a bit better," said Mr Vignoles.

The usually extrovert Press Conference Host Dimitry Shépelev was, untypically silent, struggling to think of what to say. He gathered his thoughts and said that this was the first time he had heard a Delegation comment on the production like this and hoped that everything would be resolved.

esctoday.com contacted Mr. Vignoles directly for comment and said "I was just making the point that there were too many mistakes in the shooting of our song, considering this was the second rehearsal day."

However regarding the performance of Ireland's entry by Sinéad Mulvey & Black Daisy, he said, "We were all very happy with the performance.''

PRESS CONFERENCE:
At the press conference, Jade was asked about the new rules and the fact that a professional jury will have a say in the outcome. Jade says "Some of my biggest idols like Celine Dion started with the contest so i'm very proud to represent my country. I would have still participated whether therewere juries or not. There is a pressure because of Andrew writing the song, but I put myself under the most pressure, as long as I can please myself I hope that i'll please everyone else."

Jade was asked about her promotional work before arriving in Moscow. She adds " I really enjoyed going on the Jonathan Ross programme as I always watched him. I enjoyed Barcelona as the food was great! But Moscow I think is my favourite of all of them."

Jade confirmed that Andrew Lloyd Webber will definitely join her on stage during the Final. Her dress has been designed by Amanda Wakeley a British designer who has desgined dresses for Princess Diana and Leona Lewis.

Competition wise, Jade rates Spain's Soraya as one of her main threats to win the Eurovision Song Contest, as well as Chiara from Malta and Alexander Rybak from Norway.

Yeah I think that to, last year we were like 5th or something.

This year we've really got some advantages:

# Jade - A beautiful new talent
# Andrew Llyod Webber playing the piano
# The fact the UK have promoted the song this year
# It's known in a lot of countries now
# No cheesey sarcastic song, we look more serious this year
# Juries should give us good marks and Jade is brilliant

I've got a good feeling about this now!

Apparently Lithuania is set to withdraw after the artistic directors didnt allow them to use thier own projections. Also the lights were 'randomly scattered' and not to what the Lithuanian's wanted.

If you ask me the Russians arnt exactly bending over backwards for everyone's needs so far. I mean first Ireland now Lithuania.
