View Full Version : Is it a MUST to have 5 GCSE passes??

*mazedsalv**
05-04-2009, 01:37 PM
I have a horrible feeling i will just miss out and get 4 A*-C, Im actually predicted to get 7 passes, but I seriously doubt it.

But when applying for jobs, lets just say I dont get my 5, does it mean I get much less of a chance to get it compared to someone who got 5 even though the job doesnt require anything to do with the subjects i failed??

Im actually getting worried now.... i know for sure that I will fail in Maths, and thats really important

No it is really for college places. For jobs you will need at least 4 GCSE's incuding maths.

Yes in some cases, but some colleges take mature students into consideration incase they didn't quite the grades they needed.

For jobs, probably not. As long as you have good grades in English/Maths, it shouldn't be a problem.

GCSE's are meaningless really. Employers care more about college qualifications.

If you're going for say an office job, having a few more GCSE's might make you look better but the employers will be looking at stuff like Computer Qualifications and such. As long as you get the results that are relevant to what you wanna do you'll be fine.

I think A-levels are more important anyway obviously. And isn't there a way at the college your going that you can re-take Maths. We have that at my sixth form. If you don't get a C in Maths or English you have to do it in Sixth Form.

Taking them final exams can be really intimidating, believe me. GCSE's may mean nothing in the long run, but at the time just knowing what you write in that paper will be what gets you into college or sixth form is quite daunting. :/ I was so scared I'd fail but thankfully I did well.

I'm crapping it for some things. Like for example I'm predicted an A* in geography and I got a D in the mock. Soo I have no chance. It would be nice to get an A* though.

Don't worry, the final exams are so much different. A lot more preperation goes into them and you should do well if you revise the key parts of the subject. I got a CD for English in my mock and came out with AB. Good luckk!

Omgg Im failing soo bad in Maths.... and I know that there is no way I can pass it, its the only thing that I think that i will defenitley not get a C.

So far i already have a secure C for 1 of my Science.

so far:
Italian- Full marks on coursework- A* and predicted an A*
RE- A* in both courseworks, predicted A*
ICT- A in both courseworks, predicted a B
English- B in all coursework, predicted a B/C (I get 2 seperate grades for that)
History- B on 1 coursework done so far, predicted a C, got a D in mocks
Business Studies- Predicted a D, got an E in mocks
Maths- Predicted a C, got an E in mocks

Soo if going by that, I would get 7/8 passes. Im good at cwk but crap at actual exams.

You will be finee. Our Maths pan out over two years, we do three modules depending on set [I did B, A & A*] and they pick the best two which is 50% then 50% is the terminal which is D,C,B,A & A* work. ooo.

Ohh, Maths! I was in the same boat...Maths was never my strongest point and I was constantly pressured by my teacher to get that C. I did tons and tons of practice papers and questions and I found the exams a piece of cake. I got a solid C which I was SO happy about! Good luck with it, Salv!

Lol I know i'm going to fail Maths...

I found maths like the easiest subject bar some of it, most just came natural...

I only got c but that was because we had to be moved out of our class because we didnt get on with teacher so we were only able to get a b and you had to have like 85% to get B.

Thing that annoys me is that Im doing the higher level for Maths (im doing Higher for everything), I keep asking if i can do foundation and i keep getting a no!! All my class is failing, we were looking at the mocks results, we saw all the other classes results and they were getting A*-B and then when we scrolled down at ours it said that we had 15 E's, 6 D's and 2 C's...

The thing is out of the 8 sets, we are in Set 4 (middle) and the lower sets were getting B's, so im sure if its just our teacher or its that our class are all turning dumber when it comes to Maths.

English is the hardest subject.

Im not creative at all, and they expect like 5 pages in the exam or our teacher said we need over 5.

I done 2 pages because i cant lengthen it out and talk **** i get straight to the point.

got d and e

But done in college and got c - a level.

You'll be fine, we just have to focus on the ones that we are failing most and then revise for the ones that we are doing good at.

Come to think of it, my sister got a D in Maths and 4 passes, and she works at TkMaxx and for a holidays booking thing alongside my aunty, so getting a D in Maths cant be all bad.

Do you know what she did.... she changes her grades on her CV, apparently loads of people lie about their grades and they dont even get checked anyway for jobs. She got an E on her Health and Social but on her CV it says she's got a B. A Bit extreme

AQA Higher for the terminal :P Second set out of 9. I gott a C in the B paper, a B in the A paper and I hope so much I got a A in the A* paper. Then I can get an A in the terminal and an overall A. yumm.

Business, Art, French, Double Science and History.. and then the compulsary ones like Maths etc...

and in college ive picked:

English, History, Photography and ICT.. but i may have to change ICT to Business or Media Studies because Photography and ICT clash and id rather do Photography!

You??

Lol I only get the chance to do 1 course because I chose to do Apprenticeships which is kind of spending 2 of 5 school days working in PC World, Morrisons, Currys etc:
http://www.apprenticeships.org.uk/Types-of-Apprenticeships/Retail-and-Commercial-Enterprise/Retail.aspx Ooh really? So are you in year 11? or college lol?

No lol, i'm in year 9, i'm starting the course in June/July. My school moves up a year at the end of June, then we have summer holidays and continue that school year. That way we have a chance to get used to being in a higher year group.

I'm like predicted the highest in my group of friends and when I'm like "I hope I don't get a C in this". I like have to word it differently so it doesn't offend them. Like I would be annoyed If I got a B in Maths. I shitt wanna get an A in that proper bad.

Theres this guy in my year, who literally does no revision, misbehaves a bit in lesson but ends up getting A* in everything... he got all A* in mocks.... it infuriates me!!!!!!.... and then theres me, who works my ass off and fails!!!!

Thankss Salv. Theres people in my year who are predicted all A*s aswell. One guy in my form. Whenever you get a result in anything hes like.

'Oh what did you get'
'An b'
'Oh that brilliant! I got an A*!!'

Christ he p****s us off.

Thats what this guy does to everyone. But because im honest, he asked me what i got, i said a C he said "Oh i got an A* HA!" and i said "Well tbh you dont deserve seeing as you do **** all!"... that completely shut him up.

LOL! Woop go you! But yeh.. i hate showoffs lol!

GCSE's are so easy, if you can't get 5 A*-C then you've probably got no hope of going anywhere in life

I never revised and came out with an A*, a few A's, and some B's (oh and a C and an E :joker:)

No, I think I got 3 C's, and the rest D's and one E, but I didn't have any trouble getting into college or anything. And I'd imagine that whoever is going to hire you is more interested in the qualifications you get at college anyway.

Depends what you want to do at college and what the college you want to go to is like

None near me would let anyone do A Levels if they never had 5 A*-C at GCSE

Thought she was entertaining just like Amy, Victor and Jeremy. I loved her friendship with Jeremy and when she got stuck in the rolls at the task and youc an just see her head bopping saying "Help guys!!"... and she was stunning too.

supernoodles!

If you're going for say an office job, having a few more GCSE's might make you look better but the employers will be looking at stuff like Computer Qualifications and such. As long as you get the results that are relevant to what you want to do you'll be fine.

basically what he said!
