I got in the exam, was feeling okay, i realised that the questions were hard, then i got to the last 5 pages.... and we did not learn any of the questions!!!! I remember my teacher saying to me "That wont come up, thats why i didnt teach you it" and it was in the last 8 questions worth about 50 of the overall 100 marks!!!!!! It was horrible!!!!! :bawling:

All the people in my set came out really pissed off.... our teacher is an idiot and so is the Maths exam board!!! It was IMPOSSIBLE!!!! Im going to cry!! I predict I got an F.... no joking around!!!

Aww no that's horrible!
Don't be so negative though! You never know, chances are if you found it really difficult, so did everyone else, and then the grade boundaries will be brought down. I thought I was going to get an F in my Maths last year, and did extremely well, so don't write yourself off just yet. :)

Did you do coursework for the subject? Don't worry, the C/W grade should bump up your overall grade. Just don't worry about it!

18-05-2009, 04:56 PM
Im sure, if the paper is hard, then the grade boundaries are low. I seem to remember it being like that when I did GCSE's.
Im sure you did better than you think

They dont do cwk for Maths anymore, thats the reason why i will fail, im good at cwk but crap at exams and Maths in 100% exam.

I mean it was REALLY difficult, i was almost crying!!! I really wanted to have an outburst in the exam hall...the invigialator smiled at me at the end of the exam and i gave her the dirtiest look so she looked away all serious, i think she got that i was pissed!

It seems you're not the only one who found the exam hard..

So the grade boundaries will no doubtedly be very low.

There was a Facebook group last year telling everyone not to revise and they'll lower the grade boundaries. Must have worked, I got straight A's in my A Levels ... me!! :joker:

Salv it'll be fine anyway, colleges only look for 5 across the board anyway and if you have to do it again and might be able to move up a tier if you aren't doing higher ... or am I just showing my age here with the Intermediate paper? :blush2:

aww I would say it doesn't matter but it kinda does with Maths :(
you might've done better than you think - or you retake next year?

I was just looking around the internet and apparently out of all subjects, Maths is the hardest subject for secondary school students, apparently the government are dissapointed in the recent results in the last few years, thats why they have lowered the boundaries. When they get my % they will be very shocked at how bad I did.

So i guess everyone struggles with Maths.

Nicky.

My facebook was just brimmed with year 11's saying how hard the exam was!!
And Carrie, Tom Fletchers sister, on Twitter was asking everyone how to do loads of the q's that were on it!

Because for someone like me, i would of taken Intermediate.... but i had NO choice on my choice of Maths. They just decided for me that i was going to do Higher. I think its really unfair that i was unable to choose what paper i wanted to do. I knew i would do awful on the higher but i still had to do it, and it was unfair.

Instead of posting lots of different threads, heres a thread where you can talk about it.

Okay, i had my English and ICT today.
English was okay, nothing too difficult, but it was hard, ive hopefully passed, i mucked up on the poems but feel like i did better on Of Mice And Men.

And then my ICT.... Wtf!! :joker: It was soo random, i actually dont think i knew hardly anything!!! It was soo impossible! I mean what a stupid question when it came up with a pilot and something about weather conditions and stuff like that!! What does that have to do with IT!!!

It was soo bad, everyone came out laughing about how unrelevant the exam was.

Sam!
19-05-2009, 03:05 PM
I had English Lit & IT retake today.

Noel
19-05-2009, 03:07 PM
Good idea. :D
My English Lit today was...okay..
I wrote crap for 2 and a half hours, but my questions on An Inspector Calls and To Kill a Mockingbird were both predicted by my teacher, so we were all like WOOOOOOOOOOH.
Whether I answered them well enough, though, is a different question. :L
Well I wrote 5 pages for each question, so that must be good, eh? But I suppose it's all quality over quantity!
^^ Sorry, couldn't resist.

Corkie
19-05-2009, 03:07 PM
I had English.

And we get choices what to do right for the poetry well I thought there was only 2 choices which were both hard but I chose one.

Anyway at the end of the exam i'm told they're was a 3rd question I could have done and it was easier. Ahhhh well, I think I did ok. You can never tell with English. I was sitting at the front which I hate as the invidulators stand over you.

To kill a mockingbird wasn't too bad. Kind of rushed the end though. Also I didn't have time to read back on the essay's which I was gutted about.

Biology tomorrow.

I might go and cry. :bawling:

Apparently i went for the hardest poetry question which really annoys me... i should have done the easiest, i dont know why, I just nose dived into the question without thinking.

I done my English Lit today too
To Kill A Mocking Bird & An Inspector Calls questions, altogether about 1hr 20mins, then the rest of the time for Poetry question.

Some people had it differently, with a choice of poems? I never got a choice of poems :(

But I think it went quite well, I never messed up the time, I'm pleased :)

*mazedsalv**
19-05-2009, 03:55 PM
Hope you did well Josh!!

And the paper was out of 66, so can anyone make any predictions on what you think a B and a C would be? because then i would roughly know what i got.

What bit didn't you get taught?? Was it the Higher where it's D to A* stuff? Cause people in the lower sets doing higher in my year aint getting taught most of the A* stuff. Mind you Salv, on the higher you don't need a very high mark to get a C i'm sure. Hense only some of the work is C- grade.

And I have my Maths Higher Terminal on the first June [my birthday]. I need 70sumin% to get an A overall and 92% to get an A*.. wahhh A it is then.

Sam!
20-05-2009, 10:34 AM
I had 45mins on Lord Of The Flies and 1hr on Pre1914, Heaney & Clarke poetry.

I have Biology in an hour and a half. Not worried though. One of the DTFood papers is tommorow and I have German Reading on Friday.

Haha, for Of Mice and Men i picked the question about dreams..everyone seemed to pick the Lennie one? And on poems i had to write about Havisham and My Last Duchess and talk about how the writer shows bitterness and then i had to pick one pre 1914 poem and an Armitage one and describe how it showed pleasure.

They are exams you take at the end of year 11 (age 15/16) to determine wether you should carry on with education. They stay with you for life and jobs and university applications are affected by them.

Congratulations, they're really good results.

I didn't really know how to word it without it sounding offensive. It was a compliment though!

They are good grades Harry but you come over as intelligent for your age. Do you think you could have got a few A's without being distracted on TIBB? lol

I have my core Biology, Physics & Chemistry GCSEs in June. :(

And I just my first English control assessment, and I have a work experience booklet to fill in for coursework and then do a control assessment on it which makes 30% of my total GCSE for Business. I'm so scared.

Loool. I forgot to add yr. 9 as well. I did my Biology GCSEs in yr.9
its a much better system, we can do lots of retakes for different exams
before they used to just do it in may - june in year 11, and the result you'd get would be the final

Brother Leon

did you take the higher or foundation paper? if it was higher you will only need 40%, did your tutor give you any practice papers? really shocked they would say that as teachers have to follow a curriculum and have no idea what questions will or will not come up. Chin up and good luck :)

Lool Kizzy, the OP did that GCSE in 2009.. i think saying 'chin up and good luck' to them is well and truly pointless now
But kudos for being nice

My best friend got A*'s in C1 and P1 and an A in B1 science, I'm so happy for him. The grade boundary was really high for Biology.

I'm not in triple science but I did my first real GCSE today-my control assessment science coursework thing with the experiment worth 25% of my core grade. Went really well luckily.
