Arctic Monkeys are pleased to announce they will be releasing their as-yet-untitled third album on Monday 24th August 2009.
Produced by Josh Homme in the Mojave Desert and LA, and with James Ford in Brooklyn, the album features ten new Arctic Monkeys songs.
The tracklisting is as follows:
01. My Propeller

The album will be available on CD, vinyl and via digital download.

Arctic Monkeys suffered a technical hitch at their festival comeback show in Poland.
The group's set at the Open'er festival was halted halfway through their single 'Fluorescent Adolescent' when the main speakers cut out. An announcer addressed the crowd and apologised, before starting an "Arctic Monkeys!" chant.
Ten minutes later, the band returned to play the remainder of the set. "I'm everso sorry about that, everybody," said singer Alex Turner.
The group's first festival show of the summer included four new tracks from their forthcoming Humbug album; new single 'Crying Lightning', 'Pretty Visitors', 'Potion Approaching' and 'Secret Door'.
The band headline the Reading and Leeds festivals in August.

There's a lot going on in today's midweeks, so let's get straight down to business.
The top three still runs 'Evacuate The Dancefloor' - 'Bulletproof' - 'Man In The Mirror'.
Lady GaGa's 'Paparazzi' has neither climbed nor slipped since Sunday.
It's onwards and upwards for Chipmunk's 'Diamond Rings', which is now a kitten's whisker outside the top five.
Jordin Sparks's 'Battlefield' is holding on inside the top ten, while Black Eyed Peas' 'I Gotta Feeling' is now just a couple of places outside.
Arctic Monkeys' 'Crying Lightning' - review to come by the way - is already inside the top 20.
The Saturdays' 'Work' has slipped out of the top 30, while VV Brown's 'Shark In The Water' remains between the 35 and 40 posts.
Over on the albums chart, Michael Jackson's The Essential has toppled Florence's Lungs. Cascada's Evacuate The Dancefloor is a couple of places inside the top ten.
So, where do we think the Monkeys will end up by Sunday? And can VV Brown climb any higher? Just use the usual space to make your predictions.
Looking good considering it's only on downloads.

Arctic Monkeys: 'Crying Lightning'
Released on Monday, July 6 2009
By Alex Fletcher, Senior Entertainment Reporter
Have the Arctic Monkeys changed? They recorded the majority of their new album in California rather than their hometown of Sheffield, they previewed the new material at festivals in New Zealand rather than the usual sweaty UK toilet venues, and, weirdest of all, they've become bosom buddies with bling-loving hip-hop bragger P Diddy. Surely this can't be the same band who sang about Rotherham, tracky bottoms and Frank Spencer on their iconic 2006 debut. Might fame and critical adulation have gone to their heads?
It takes approximately 45 seconds of this comeback track to allay such fears. Alex Turner manages to drop the words "pick 'n' mix", "strawberry lace" and "gobstopper" into the lyrics, while the band have clearly taken tips off producer Josh Homme, juicing up their formerly jaunty indie into something just as atmospheric as The Last Shadow Puppets. The swirling guitar outro and melodramatic non-chorus are the icing on this indie-rock cake. Strange but alluring, sinister but incredibly moreish, the Arctics have struck gold again.
5 stars.

Yeah but WPSIATWIN was just a completely excellent debut album from a band so young, Turner has some gift when it comes to writing hence having 3 number 1 albums already, he'll be in many bands for years to come, I imagine a solo album in the next 2 years aswell...

Humbug, the eagerly awaited third album from the Arctic Monkeys has leaked onto the internet nearly a month before its official release date of August 24.
The previous two albums by the Sheffield band 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' and 'Favourite Worst Nightmare' also leaked in 2006 and 2007 but they still managed to top the UK album charts.
The band planned the original release date of August 24 so it would be out in time for their headline slots at the up and coming Reading and Leeds Festivals which

Arctic Monkeys have announced that they have hidden "golden tickets" to the Reading and Leeds Festivals in selected copies of their upcoming single.
The band previously announced the release of exclusive 7" versions of 'Crying Lightning' through Oxfam charity shops.
Two copies of the single will contain a code to give the buyers free tickets to the festival, while another 40 will be signed by the entire band.
Another 15 signed copies will be sent out at random to those purchasing the single through Oxfam's online shop.
The single will also be available as a 10" vinyl in normal shops.
Arctic Monkeys top the main stage at the Leeds Festival on August 28 and headline at Reading the following day.
Still nothing about Ireland though :bored::bored::bored::bored::bored::bored::bored:: bored:

Calvin Harris has insisted that he won't mind being knocked from the top of the UK album chart this weekend.
The musician's Ready For The Weekend disc made its debut at number one on Sunday, but is expected to be pushed down by Arctic Monkeys' Humbug at the end of the week.
In an interview with the Daily Star, Harris claimed that topping the chart was achievement enough and he is pleased about the continuing success of the Sheffield rockers.
He explained: "Getting to number one in the album chart is the best thing I have achieved in my whole life.
"I can absolutely guarantee that the Monkeys are going to be number one. I love them. They have such a massive fanbase, which must mean they are doing something right. They sold more records in one day than I sold last week. They are the biggest band in the UK."

P. Diddy has reportedly urged his fans to buy a copy of the Arctic Monkeys' new album.
The Sheffield indie rockers released their third LP Humbug earlier this week, and Diddy, who has a widely-publicised friendship with the band, voiced his support of the record online.
Posting on his Twitter account yesterday while the Arctic Monkeys were on stage in London, the rapper encouraged his 1,819,849 followers to purchase the LP.
"Go get the Arctic Monkeys' new album Humbug!!!!!!" he wrote, adding his online catchphrase: "Let's go!!!!!"
Diddy's support of the group grew when he and drummer Matt Helders became friends after meeting at the Miami Dance Music Conference.
Nice Endorsement by Diddy!
The album 'Humbug' has just gone straight in at #1 in the album chart. Congrats to the Monkeys!

At first listen of Crying Lightning, I didn't like it, sounded like they went all snobby, few plays later I realise he's talking about eating "the last of your pic n mix". Same old arctics just sounds a lot darker.........

Shane Meadows' new mockumentary, which stars Arctic Monkeys, has been given a full release.
Le Donk & Scor-Zay-Zee, which follows the story of a roadie who is attempting to get a white rapper a support slot at a Monkeys concert, will be released on October 9.
Paddy Considine, who appeared in the Sheffield band's 'Leave Before The Lights Come On' video, stars in the film.
Meadows (This Is England, Somers Town) premiered the movie at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June. It is scheduled for DVD release on October 26.

Just read this in Uncyclopedia thought it was funny...
The Arctic Monkeys are the first group of trained monkeys to become a Death Bluegrass band/ Interpretive Dance group. Originally discovered in the north pole transported to the end of time in the TARDIS where they heard all the songs ever made (most of them indie) then transported themselves back to 2005 where they de-volved back into humans. They are not over-hyped in any way ever whatsoever. ever. Think they're as big as Oasis, but everyone else thinks they're even better. Indeed, Liam Gallagher once said "they're fookin sheeeeeeeeite", while Noel Gallagher said they can "get gonnoreah and die". After that, everyone raped the brothers until they forgot the meaning of ‘healthy sex.
The first song was used as evidence of snuff movies made by the band as a robot horribly murdered was last seen in 1984 on a dancefloor with the lead singer and much like a modern day happy slapper he recorded it and used it as lyrics. Police are also questioning the band about a young lad they made sit in the cold drumming all day and night until someone had him brutally killed with a baseball bat, the band were said to be low on funds for a proper music video.
Their debut album, "Whatever People Say About My Mum That's What She's Not" sold 360 copies in its first week alone, setting the record for the most copies of an Arctic Monkeys album ever sold. The record was broken the following week, when the same album sold 363,735 non-digital copies. Their second album, "Dry Wet Dream" sold 43 copies in the first ten hours, which, by all standards, is quite an achievement, especially for Monkeys. Their third album is tentatively entitled "Bumhug" and will be released sometime in 1964.

Did not like Crying Lightening at first, but it's growing on me.

For a guy who writes some nasty lyrics, Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner has a thing for sweets. Take Humbug, the band's third and best album. Despite the fact the band hails from the same country as Ebenezer Scrooge, the title comes from a British treat. Early on the album there's also a reference to a gobstopper, or jawbreaker.
“I suppose there are a lot of references to the sweets,” bassist Nick O'Malley says. “Alex does have a real sweet tooth. It comes through in his lyric writing.
“He likes baked goods as well.”
But in making Humbug the Monkeys had to leave their regional culinary preferences behind.
Hailed as the next big thing in the U.K. (an annual occurrence), the Monkeys arrived in the United States three years ago as teenage superstars back home. They were cheeky and not lacking a distinctive sound, a dark guitar rock that played strangely well on the dance floor.
There was buzz befitting a band confident enough to title an early EP Who the (Expletive) Are Arctic Monkeys?.Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, the Monkeys' debut album, was well received, though hardly one to retire on. A second album revealed the group to be in a holding pattern.
Hooking up with Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme shook their tree. Homme invited the band to his desert studio in California. They left most of their gear, and the sweets, behind.
“Clean underwear, that's about it,” O'Malley says.
The band made use of Homme's well-stocked studio. “I very much liked a few of the basses I used,” he says. “But you wouldn't think about stealing them. Josh is a big guy.”
O'Malley says being so removed from the band's comfort zone was a big help. “It's like nothing we'd ever done before,” he says. “They showed us around the national park (Joshua Tree); it was like nothing we'd ever seen before. It was like an alien landscape.”
The result is a darker, edgier recording that makes good on the band's early promise. The beats are still slinky enough for shaking a leg to, not surprising considering Homme's role. There's a bigger and buzzier bass and drum sound.
Turner continues to write dark and detailed songs with cutting commentary about people and their problems, like a line that turns the chicken/egg cliché into a sneering barb on Pretty Visitors. It all starts turning with My Propeller, a sort of bleary-eyed play on My Starter Won't Start, that suggests some oil and a spin will get it going again.
Don't expect more desert-inspired rock. O'Malley says there's talk of building a studio and “getting all Phil Spector with the next one. We like to try different things; we're still quite young.”
Until then they will be touring a lot, which O'Malley says the band has gotten better at. Whereas it had been a testy grind — especially a European tour last year that included multiple vehicle breakdowns and an instance when lightning struck the van — O'Malley sounds eager to present Humbug live. “It's exciting because we're playing so much better together,” he says.
As for the lightning: “It was just a really big bang, what you'd expect, I suppose. There was a visual aspect of it. A big bright light.
“But the van is probably one of the safest places to be.”

Four years ago, Arctic Monkeys gained almost instant popularity in the UK with Whatever People Say, That’s What I’m Not, and they have atypically tried to fight back, starting with an EP released in 2006 called Who the [expletive] Are Arctic Monkeys? They mocked their own celebrity status, and now they’re bravely fighting the very genres into which they’ve been pigeonholed.
With each album, Arctic Monkeys become weirder and weirder. The English giant’s latest hit, Humbug, sounds more like a B-horror movie soundtrack than a post-punk dance album.
Lead singer Alex Turner has tuned down his vocals to sound more like Joy Division or a British Dracula. Dripping with creepiness, he crows over broken hearts, mingling surreal circus themes with the post-punk scene.
The song “My Propeller” is a quick-paced opener, a song about Turner’s penis. “Cornerstone” and “Crying Lightning” tell the same stories of the dance floor we’ve heard on “Favourite Worst Nightmare,” but now they’re somehow darker and stalker-esque. Becoming borderline-Goth is a strange step for Arctic Monkeys, but it works surprisingly well. Perhaps Arctic Monkeys are fighting their reputation to prove the overnight fame they received, which was well-deserved.
