My point is though is that intersexuality isn't actually as uncommon as you might think, and it's not strictly just to do with genital 'abnormality' either (although that's usually the thing that prompts doctors to perform surgery), so to argue it's 'a mistake of nature' is problematic both for the lives of intersexuals and understanding the complexity of human bodies. Science has its contradictions and can sometimes be wrong

That said, I should point out I'm not myself yet convinced either, queer theory is relatively new to me so we shall see going forward

The problem is though is that our understandings of 'abnormality' and what's 'normal' (and tbh, this applies to literally everything in life) is so too a product of our environment. In fact, the example of disability that you used can be (and is for some) read in much the same way, 'disability' as an identity category exists only because it is set against what it is not, 'able-bodied', but when you think about it deeply and try and remove yourself from the context of life itself, human bodies are pretty weird don't you think? I shan't digress anyway cause that isn't really an area I'm clued up on theoretically speaking

However, this article demonstrates the complexities of not only gender but sex too (there are arguments that the latter is just as socially constructed, but I won't get into that now because it's a bit ~out there~ so to speak ) and how across cultures the binary is shown to really not be very accommodating at all. This is especially true of intersexuals

Anyway, I'm going to be doing my dissertation on theories surrounding gender and sexuality (I had to, didn't I?!) so as time rolls on I should hopefully have a more nuanced understanding of it all, and I'm happy to provide you with pieces I think make interesting reading if you like (and vice versa obvs). also btw I finally read that article you linked me it's a well argued piece but there's a few inaccuracies, social constructionism (seeing sex as biological and gender as cultural) isn't really a radical feminist thing, and I also think it's a bit problematic to use the physical reality of height to analogise the very complex nature of sex and gender. I do agree with her conclusion that it would be better to just rid society of gender at all though, and that's actually a position that the feminist Judith Lorber has argued should be the goal of feminism going forward (this is referenced in the article I've linked)
