Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has assured Fernando Torres that the club will be active in the summer transfer market in a bid to hold on to the Spanish striker.
Ahead of Liverpool’s crucial clash with Manchester United today, the Mail on Sunday report that both Benitez and managing director Christian Purslow have held talks with Torres. Joe Bernstein reports in the Mail on Sunday that "To placate Torres, Liverpool are looking to sell squad players like Albert Riera , Ryan Babel and Alberto Aquilani this summer to raise £30m, which will then be invested in top-line talent." Liverpool boss Benitez said: "We can talk with Torres and go forward. He is happy and we don't want to sell him." The Merseyside giants are adamant that they will not sell Torres even for £60million with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Barcelona all tracking "El Nino." Serbian striker Milan Jovanovic is expected to be the first Liverpool signing in the summer with a deal already agreed to bring in the Standard Liege striker on a free transfer. |
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has slammed Spanish club Real Madrid’s policy of signing big names rather than trying to win trophies.
The Gunners manager raised questions in regards to Real’s recent Champions League form in which they have not got past the Round of 16 for the past six years and wonders if the club is really concerned about winning silverware. "It is success for Real when they buy a big-name player, in that it diminishes the level of worry for the fans,” he said. "But it will never wipe out the unpredictability of the sport. I find it strange when fans view new signings above trophies. "But we are under pressure to do it as well because of the transfer window. Why? Because basically it's reassuring. "But it's a team sport and things are never predictable. Real Madrid, for example, have gone out in the last 16 of the Champions League for six consecutive years. It's fragile." |

Benfica winger Angel Di Maria has revealed he does not know what happened to a proposed deal to join Arsenal back in 2007.
At the time, the Argentine was with Rosario Central in his homeland but eventually signed with Portugal’s Benfica and although he is happy now, he said he was hoping to join the Gunners at the time. “I don’t know exactly what happened with my proposed transfer to Arsenal," he said in the News of the World. “I was very excited about joining them but it never happened. “From what I’ve been told, the transfer money that was supposed to appear, never appeared. “And just a day-and-a-half later, Benfica heard about the problem, showed interest in me and quickly hired me. “But I am sure that Arsene Wenger would have had a lot to teach me.” |

Chelsea Close In On £35m Keeper Casillas: Real Madrid Line Up Replacement
Chelsea are interested in signing Real Madrid ’s vastly experienced goalkeeper and Spain captain Iker Casillas , according to Spanish daily Sport. Real Madrid are already planning their summer spending spree following a disappointing exit from the Champions League and Sport claims that they are in the market for a top goalkeeper. Sport believes that Casillas’ form has deteriorated this season and describes the two goals he conceded in a recent narrow 3-2 victory over Sevilla as part of “one of the worst games to be remembered” for the 28 year-old stopper. According to Sport, Real Madrid are lining up Almeria’s Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Alves as a summer replacement for Casillas. Alves has also been linked to Tottenham in recent months. Chelsea would be keen to sign Casillas, as they too look for renewed momentum having been knocked out of the Champions League in midweek. Sport claims that Chelsea have been interested in Casillas for some time and that he “would be received with open arms” at Stamford Bridge. Casillas is a Real Madrid legend and has signed a contract at the Bernebeu until 2017. He also led Spain to victory in the 2008 European Championships and has won over 100 caps for his country. (IMScouting) Would bet my car that casillas wouldnt leave. |

Liverpool possible 2010/11 kit..
look pretty decent. Like the sleeves and the golden shirt looks pretty damn good. Obviously next term brings an end to the Carlsberg connection and that’s a shame but hopefully we can build a new partnership with Standard Chartered that will be lengthy and mutually beneficial. Clearly they are a company with big spending power and hopefully we can display the Champions League kit next term all being well. Maybe we have a spare Europa League design just in case? http://www.caughtoffside.com/wp-cont...-Home-2010.jpg http://www.caughtoffside.com/wp-cont...pions-2010.jpg http://www.caughtoffside.com/wp-cont...-Away-2010.jpg |
Arsène Wenger has identified the 18-year-old Ajax attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen as an Arsenal star of the future, although the manager may have to bide his time before he can conclude a deal for the Dane.
Wenger has received glowing reports on the player, who made his debut for Denmark as a substitute in the 2-1 friendly defeat by Austria two weeks ago, not least from Dennis Bergkamp, the former Arsenal striker who is a youth coach at Ajax. Wenger’s attention may have been encouraged by Eriksen’s contractual situation: he is on a low-paid youth-team deal which expires next year. The Frenchman may also have considered Ajax’s worrying financial position: the Amsterdam club has incurred heavy losses and will have to raise funds in the transfer market this summer. Eriksen, though, appears set to sign a new, more lucrative longer-term contract and says he remains happy at Ajax. Under Martin Jol, the former Spurs manager who took over at Ajax last summer, the teenager has been playing first-team football, although his recent appearances have been on the left flank, rather than in his preferred No10 playmaker’s role. (Guardian) Juventus president Jean Claude Blanc has publicly declared that the Italian giants hope to hold on to Felipe Melo , who has long been linked with a move to Arsenal. Blanc said: “Felipe Melo will remain with us but we won’t be commenting further on any future dealings.” Arsenal were considered a likely destination for Melo as he has struggled at Juventus in 2009/2010 and had a run-in with the club’s fans at the end of the 3-3 draw with Siena on Sunday. Felipe Melo was rumoured to be an Arsenal target last summer when he moved to Juventus from Fiorentina and in March Arsene Wenger said he was still tracking the Brazilian midfielder. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had said in March: “We still think he is a very talented player and with Gilberto Silva, Brazil have a very useful pair in midfield. We are still looking at Melo.” (IMScouting) Meanwhile, there are reports linking Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger with a move for Ajax youngster Christian Eriksen, while long-time Gunners target Felipe Melo appears to be nearing the exit at Juventus. Then there is speculation over the future of Inter striker Mario Balotelli, who is wanted by both Man City and Arsenal. |

Arsenal are said to be preparing an £8 million summer swoop for AZ Alkmaar’s young ‘keeper Sergio Romero.
The Gunners are widely expected to bring in a new goalkeeper in the close season after seeing Manuel Almunia and, more notably, Lukas Fabianski drop a bevvy of disastrous clangers this season and Arsene Wenger has apparently singled out the Argentinian stopper as the man to ease his goalkeeping woes. Romero himself is looking for a move to a bigger club after recently stating; “My career has gone very well in Holland but I came to Europe to play in the biggest leagues and I will soon be ready to move.” The 23-year-old has been in fantastic form in the Eredivisie this year and is widely expected to be Argentina’s first choice number one for the World Cup in South Africa this summer. £8 million for a highly-rated and very promising international goalkeeper? Sounds like a bit of a bargain to me. |
For Me..
Almunia would still be played over hart due to experience, give it 2 seasons and hart will be world class.. Would love him to join Arsenal but he would improve more at birmingham as he gets first team action. |
Melo 15m + denilson though?
I think you could get him for 15 - 18m standard. |
