Denilson Backs Samir Nasri To Stand In For Cesc Fabregas At Arsenal
Young Frenchman can handle creative burden...

Arsenal midfielder Denilson feels that the Gunners have a ready-made stand-in for Cesc Fabregas in the shape of Samir Nasri.

Fabgregas left the Emirates on crutches following Arsenal's Champions league quarter-final first leg draw against Barcelona on Wednesday evening after sustaining a suspected broken bone in his leg.

The Catalan could be out for the rest of the season but Denilson is backing Nasri to step up as the Gunners look to beat Barca in next week's second leg and reach the last four of the competition.

"We are sad now because Cesc will not play [the second leg]," the Brazilian told reporters after the game on Wednesday.

"But I think Samir can come in and help us. It is important to go there and to win."

Denilson admitted that Arsene Wenger's side were something of a shambles in the first half of the game against the Spanish giants but was pleased with the way in which they fought back late on to claim a 2-2 draw.

"In the first half they played better than us," he acknowledged.

"It was a great opportunity to show [our spirit]. We started badly but in the second half we played well and we have one more game to go."

Inter Give Up On Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas & Turn Transfer Effort To Liverpool's Steven Gerrard - Report
Gerrard is now top of Jose Mourinho's list as he abandons the chase for Fabregas...

Inter have kicked the plan to sign Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas into long grass and they will focus their transfer efforts into landing Steven Gerrard from Liverpool instead, according to Tuttosport.

Fabregas has been the number one objective on Jose Mourinho's transfer list, but Inter have realised that signing him will be difficult. Mourinho's relationship with Arsene Wenger is not the best, and Fabregas has made it clear his dream is to go back to Barcelona in the future.

With that in mind, the Nerazzurri have set out an approach for Gerrard. His name has been floated around Massimo Moratti's office for the past two weeks, suggesting a move is still in its development stage.

Signing the England international will be less than easy. However, Inter are hoping to press for the best deal and they are expected to make a €35 million bid for him.

Mourinho will attempt to raise funds for the deal by offloading players, and his recent spat with Mario Balotelli will see the Italian as first on the list to go.

Balotelli has a €70 million release clause in his deal. Inter are aware they will not get such a figure for their player, but they will attempt to sell him for €40million, meaning they would have enough allowances to fund a move for Gerrard.

Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Barcelona have all been linked with the Inter forward.

Real Zaragoza starlet Ander Herrera admits he is flattered by reported interest from Arsenal.

The Gunners are understood to be keen on sealing a deal for the Spain Under-21 international midfielder.

The Basque-born 20-year-old only made his first-team debut last August, but is already considered one of the best young prospects in La Liga.

Arsenal are believed to have been scouting Herrera for a number of months and even Arsene Wenger's No.2 Pat Rice is reported to have made a couple of personal checks on him this year.

Now Zaragoza have confirmed Arsenal's interest in signing their star youngster.

"The interest in Herrera is true, but if Arsenal want the kid they must pay his true value," Zaragoza president Agapito Iglesias is quoted as saying.

Spanish sources claim Arsenal have lodged a bid of €10million (£8.8million), but this has been rejected as Zaragoza want at least €15million (£13.3million) for the player who has a buy-out clause of €24million (£21million).

Italian offer can tempt Manchester United and Arsenal target Dzeko

Wolfsburg's star striker Edin Dzeko has hinted that he is waiting for the right offer from Italy this summer.

English sides Manchester United and Arsenal have been rumoured to want to sign the Bosnian striker. Arsenal scouts have been monitoring Dzeko while Manchester United 's assistant manager Mike Phelan called him "ideal for the English league" back in December.

Dzeko has scored 21 goals in 38 appearances for Wolfsburg so far this season. Last season, he was a major factor in Wolfsburg lifting the Bundesliga title. The 24 year-old is considered to be one of Europe's top strikers.

However, Dzeko has been most strongly linked with AC Milan since the end of last season when the Italians made Wolfsburg an offer that was firmly rejected.

Speaking to German publication Sport Bild, Dzeko has now said, “I never said that I absolutely want Italy,

“If the right offer comes in then I will say yes.”

There have been suggestions that AC Milan might use Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar as a makeweight in any bid for Dzeko.
