Arsenal plan smart £8 million move for Joe Hart
There is no denying the fact that Arsenal need to sign a new goalkeeper. Lukasz Fabianski was in goal as Arsenal conceded 3 goals in the space of ten minutes to hand Wigan an unlikely three points at the DW Stadium this afternoon. Many Arsenal fans questioned Arsene Wenger’s decision not to sign a new keeper during the January transfer window and I think it’s fair to say that if the Gunners had a decent keeper, they could easily be winning the Premier League at the moment. As it is, Arsenal now have little chance of lifting the title at the end of the season with the Londoners now 6 points behind Chelsea with just 3 games to play. It has been announced that Wenger will have money to spend in the summer and I am sure a new keeper will be high on his list of priorities when he does dip into the market. There is a report in today’s Mirror, claiming that Arsenal will make an £8 million move for Manchester City keeper Joe Hart in the summer and to tell you the truth, I reckon Hart would be a cracking signing for the Gunners. Hart, 23, is currently on loan at Birmingham, however with Shay Given likely to remain as number 1 at Eastlands next season, there is talk that the England international will look to leave City on a permanent basis. I have said it in the past and I will say it again. Hart is, without doubt, one of the best keepers in the Premier League and I believe he would be superb addition to the Arsenal squad. He is still very young and at £8 million, I feel he represents value for money. |
According to Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo, Atletico Madrid have reportedly lured Arsenal starlet Fran Merida back to Spain.
Merida has had enough of being overlooked by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger and will leave in search of more first-team opportunities. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has made it clear in recent weeks he would like the Spanish youngster to remain at the Emirates, but he could give no guarantees as to first-time action. The 21 year old has made just three appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring a solitary goal against Bolton Wanderers in January. |
According to the News of the World Arsenal striker Eduardo is interesting French club Lyon.
The Croatian has failed to impress this season at the Emirates, with many believing the forward has never fully recovered from his horrific leg-break suffered against Birmingham City during 2008-09. With the imminent arrival of Marouane Chamakh from Bordeaux, he looks set to drop further down the pecking order behind Robin van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner. Despite signing a new long-term contract last November, the Gunners are believed to be willing to accept an offer of around £8 million. |
When legendary striker Thierry Henry finally departed Arsenal in 2007 after a memorable eight-year spell with the club, his replacement was much anticipated. Who would Arsene Wenger bring in to replace his French X-factor?
The replacement was Eduardo Da Silva, a talented Croatian who had been excelling in the Croatian League with Dinamo Zagreb. The Croatian was blessed with blistering pace, a fierce shot and the rare ability to be icy cool in the goal area. Eduardo started slowly in the Premier League, taking time to adapt to the physicality of the English game. But around Christmas, the Croatian international began to blossom. Come 2008, the footballing world witnessed another star striker embark onto the EPL. But then on Feb. 23, 2008, a horror challenge left "Dudu" with a horror injury. A broken fibula and dislocated ankle saw the 27-year-old spend just under a year on the sidelines. Although Eduardo's comeback to the Arsenal side has been admirable and a joy to watch, his form has since evaded him. This campaign, it has been evident Eduardo is no longer the damaging forward he used to be. Lacking in confidence and skills, the Croatian star has contributed solidly this season for the Gunners, but sadly, many feel his time in the English game is over. Furthermore, with rumours from the likes of Lyon, Wenger may feel obligated to allow Eduardo to depart the Emirates. This could see the Frenchman attract a handy profit for his striker which would enable him to pursue a quality replacement. One player who would have no difficulty performing at Arsenal is Wigan's star frontman, Hugo Rodallega. The Columbian sharpshooter has had an impressive season with Wigan and many clubs are vying for his signature. Fortunately, the 25-year-old has expressed a desire to play at Arsenal, which only strengthens Wenger's reason to offer for the former Necaxa striker. Rodallega is strong and agile making himself a powerful striker. Rodallega has been one of Wigan's top performers in their struggle to survive, with nine goals in 34 appearances. The addition of the Columbian would allow more depth in the Arsenal forward ranks and also provide more versatility. When the usual injury bomb deploys itself in the Arsenal base, Rodallega's presence could prove useful. So should Wenger sell Eduardo to obtain the talented Hugo Rodallega? |

Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill is reportedly on Arsenal FC’s transfer radar.
The Sunday Mirror claims Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is looking at augmenting his backline with the young centre-back. Cahill has had an impressive season which has seen him move to the fringes of England coach Fabio Capello’s squad. Wenger has experienced defensive problems this season and both Mikael Silvestre and Sol Campbell both in the twilight of their careers and the Wanderers defender could be the answer to his long-term plans. The paper goes on to claim that Wenger is also monitoring Dane Simon Kjaer of Palermo. |
ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger has been given the green light for a major summer spending spree.
After yet another trophy-less season, chairman Peter Hill-Wood revealed more money “than for a long, long time” was available for Wenger – thought to be around £25-£30m. Fulham’s Brede Hangeland (left) is one of his top targets. The north Londoners have a board meeting late next week and transfer bids will be on the agenda after the loss at Spurs, which ended their Premier League hopes. A centre-back is a priority with Hangeland and Hamburg’s Jerome Boateng on Wenger’s radar. The Frenchman knows he needs to boost his strike force. Bordeaux’s Marouane Chamakh seems set to join on a Bosman free, although he will command big wages. Hill-Wood said: “We have got more money than we have had for a long, long time and we would like to spend it. But we want to spend it sensibly.” He added the club were beginning to reap the benefits of Highbury Square – the conversion of the old stadium into homes – and also development around their new Emirates base. “There is plenty of cash, although not in comparison to Manchester City, ” he said. “So we have got to look for others. We clearly cannot compete in the transfer market with them.” |
Barcelona coach Guardiola wants deal for Arsenal fullback Clichy ahead of Cesc
Barcelona are chasing Arsenal fullback Gael Clichy. Clichy impressed Nou Camp boss Pep Guardiola with two excellent performances against Barca in the Champions League quarter-final. Guardiola has identified the need for a left back as a greater priority than a central midfielder like Gunners captain Cesc Fabregas, although the issue is clouded by the club's presidential elections in the summer, says the Daily Mail. The Barca boss sees Clichy as a left-sided version of Dani Alves, a full back capable of attacking fluently but with the engine to carry out his defensive duties. For Clichy, 24, it could provide the boost which propels him into the France team, where he has struggled to get past Manchester United's Patrice Evra and Barca's Eric Abidal. He has two years left on his Arsenal contract but Clichy has not been at his most consistent this season. His place may even have come under pressure from Kieran Gibbs had the England Under 21 defender not broken his foot in November. |
Real Madrid Track Manchester City's Carlos Tevez - Report
Real Madrid are reported to have expressed an interest in Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez in light of a breakdown in recent contract talks, according to the News of the World. Despite only arriving at Eastlands from rivals Manchester United last summer, it is speculated that the explosive frontman is far from happy with his current contract and is seeking a wage increase to match the £160,000-a-week deal Robinho held with the club. With Madrid struggling for silverware this season, and number one target Wayne Rooney all but certain to remain at Manchester United, the Spanish giants have switched their attention to Tevez who is also being courted by Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan. It is believed the high-octane striker would jump at the chance to join international team-mate Lionel Messi in Spain, although with a view to end Barcelona’s La Liga dominance. Tevez has scored 28 times this season, six in his last four outings, to fire the Citizens to fifth place in the Premier League and to the brink of Champions League football next season.
