My most hated team in the whole PL.

They are going to end up so despised even more than United now, i'm still in shock as I thought we would always be the most HATED:joker:.

Yes money talks in football these days and thats why Silva has gone, he'll soon be wishing he never had bothered and only went because Valencia need the cash:(.

The MLS are more strict in letting their players go.. Donovan brings so much to their league commercially, as a individual, to the team and in US football in general that he is the face of it so no way he'll be going there. Everton had to have a special deal for that loan move.

GiRTh 30-06-2010 07:51 PM

Despite all the joking I think Man City will probably finish in a CL spot next year. They're getting there and are 100 times better than in recent seasons Tottenham over achieved last year IMO.

alc09 30-06-2010 08:43 PM

I guess Mourinho preferred Di Maria over Silva then, interesting, don't think I would to be honest but different players, I imagine he'll get hacked to bits by the ****ing thugs in this country but he certainly has the ability to be the best midfielder in the Premiership.

Roy Hodgson hoping to bring in Brede Hangeland, Danny Murphy, Gilberto Silva & Rafael van der Vaart after being appointed Liverpool manager - report

Roy Hodgson is believed to be targeting Brede Hangeland, Danny Murphy, Gilberto Silva & Rafael van der Vaart, once he is appointed as Liverpool's new manager.

The former Inter boss had a sensational campaign last season with Fulham, guiding the London club all the way to the final of the Europa League.

England's failure in the 2010 World Cup had seen him linked with a potential move to take over the reins of the national team, but recent reports point towards the gaffer being unveiled as the latest to take to the helm at Anfield.

Goal.com UK had previously revealed that the Fulham manager would not join the Merseyside club, unless he had some semblance of a transfer kitty at his disposal.

Now The Daily Mail claims that he will be handed £15 million to go shopping, with the £25m sale of Javier Mascherano to Barcelona and a £6m injection from Yossi Benayoun's move to Chelsea to make up his transfer budget.

It is said that Hodgson will look towards bringing in Panathinaikos' defensive midfielder Gilberto Silva as a replacement if the Argentine should push through with a move to the Catalan club, with an Anfield return for Danny Murphy also reported to be under consideration.

Additionally, to strengthen a Reds that looked shaky on more than a few occasions last season, the 62-year-old is believed to have cast his eye on raiding his former club for Brede Hangeland.

It has been speculated that the success achieved under Hodgson will be convincing enough for the Norway international to switch allegiances and move to Merseyside.

Hodgson is also reportedly interested in bringing in Real Madrid midfielder Rafael van der Vaart to Anfield, amidst claims that the now manager of the Spanish club, Jose Mourinho, will let go of the player.

Milan could stick a move together for Keisuke Honda as club sponsors Fly Emirates provide the glue, according to Sports Nippon.

Japanese media claim Fly Emirates will foster the move after offering to pay for the player's wages should Milan sign him during the transfer window.

The airline company are eager to stretch their image across the Asian continent and see Honda as a means of increasing their branding power in Japan.

On Friday the 24-year-old CSKA Moscow ace and Japan international was linked with Milan by La Gazzetta dello Sport, who claimed club supremo Adriano Galliani was following him.

However, Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City are also keen on him.

Meanwhile, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been tipped to join French champions Olympique Marseille, according to Le Parisien and France Football.

They claim Huntelaar's lack of football and his position behind Marco Borriello and Alexandre Pato in the pecking order will see him go. The former Ajax and Real Madrid man is reportedly valued at €15 million by Milan.

Honda has done very well.

Roy Hodgson looks to make this English midfielder his first signing as Liverpool manager

Ever since it was announced that Roy Hodgson had been appointed the new Liverpool manager, a whole host of names have been linked with summer moves to Anfield.

One name which I am sure will excite many Liverpool fans is Aston Villa’s Ashley Young. The Mail on Sunday has claimed that Hodgson will look to make Young his first signing as the new Liverpool boss and I for one believe he would be an incredible signing for the Merseyside club.

Young, 24, has become one of the most feared wingers in the Premier League ever since he made the switch from Watford to Aston Villa back in 2007. Villa boss Martin O’Neill will no doubt be desperate to hold onto one of his most prized assets but it is expected that given the opportunity, Young would jump at the chance to join Liverpool.

Liverpool will no doubt need to sell a player or two if they want to sign Young, given the fact there is clearly not much money to spend at the moment. We all know Yossi Benayoun joined Chelsea last week so Liverpool clearly need to add another midfield player to their ranks and I reckon they could do a lot worse than Young.

Wonder if villa will let him go.

Fernando Torres set for Liverpool exit as agent admits Premier League big boys are interested

Fernando Torres appeared to be on the verge of leaving Liverpool after his agent indicated the striker is bound for another Premier League club.

Chelsea are at the front of the queue to sign the Spaniard and Manchester City also showed interest before moving on to other targets when they got little encouragement from the 26-year-old.

Agent Jose Antonio Martin said: ‘It is very likely that Fernando Torres will stay in the Premier League, but I cannot say that it will be with Liverpool. We are working on his future but right now you cannot guarantee that he will stay with the English club.’

Messi shocked at Walcott snub

Argentina and Barcelona attacker Lionel Messi admits he was dumbfounded by the decision not to take Theo Walcott to the World Cup.

Walcott was expected to make the plane to South Africa but England manager Fabio Capello opted to leave him at home.

The decision came despite the fact that the 21-year-old became the youngest ever player to score a hat-trick for England in 2008, following an excellent performance in Croatia.

And Messi points to last season's Champions League clash between Arsenal and Barcelona as another match where Walcott had a major impact.

With the Gunners trailing 2-0 and on the ropes against the Spanish champions at the Emirates, Walcott came off the bench and changed the game as Arsenal salvaged a 2-2 draw.

Messi, 23, was shocked when Capello named his World Cup squad, and believes England would have had more success if Walcott was onboard.

"I must say that at the time I thought it was a bad decision to leave Theo Walcott at home," he told the Daily Star.

"And I think that has been proved right. I can only speak from experience but he was one of the most dangerous players I have ever played against.

"Barcelona players are not scared easily but I can tell you that when we played Arsenal last season he truly worried us.

"When we were playing Arsenal at the Emirates we were so in control of the game at 2-0, with all respect Arsenal were not even in the game.

"Then Theo came on and changed the game. He pretty much single-handedly salvaged a draw against Barcelona that night.

"Even in the return leg our manager Pep Guardiola was telling us he was the player to watch out for.

"And the best players in the world like Xavi and Gerard Pique were telling us to watch out for him. The truth is that he really rattled us.

"If he could do that against Barcelona, think what he could have done against Germany and Algeria. Even if he didn't start he would still have been very important for England.

"Along with Cesc Fabregas and Sergio Aguero he would have been the best impact player at the World Cup."

Messi, whose Argentina side crashed out in the quarter-finals after also being thumped by Germany, says Walcott's pace is his best asset.

He added: "Even at the top level, pace scares the world's best defenders. And, take it from me, he would scare any defender.

"When England brought on players I don't think they were at the level to make any impact. But Walcott would have been and I still can't understand why he wasn't taken.

"He is a big-game player as well who rises to the occasion. He scored a hat-trick in Croatia, which nobody ever does and was the star against Barcelona."

Well said Mr Messi!!

Manchester City spree will top £175m as Blues step up chase for Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko

Manchester City will step up their quest for a striker this week as they prepare to take their summer spending past £175million.

City spent £60m last week when they confirmed deals for Jerome Boateng, Yaya Toure and David Silva, and they plan to conclude another £67m worth of business with Lazio's Aleksandar Kolarov, Benfica's David Luiz and Aston Villa's James Milner over the next few days.

As Sportsmail has revealed, they are significant steps in what will be the biggest spending spree under taken by a British club in one summer, dwarfing the £120m they spent last year, and the piece de resistance is yet to be delivered.

City fear they will miss out on Fernando Torres because of his preference for playing elsewhere if he leaves Liverpool, but the club have other strikers in mind.

They have made a play for Wolfsburg's Edin Dzeko and were alarmed at the German club's £50m demands.

Luis Suarez admits he could be tempted to leave Ajax if Manchester United come calling.

The striker is currently on international duty with Uruguay at the World Cup and scored 49 goals in 48 appearances for Ajax last season.

“Manchester United and Barcelona are the elite clubs in Europe,” Suarez told the Daily Star Sunday.

“If they call, you listen. I would only leave Ajax for a team in that category.”

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud has ruled out selling Yoann Gourcuff to a French rival.

Gourcuff has been widely tipped to leave Parc Lescure after returning from South Africa, where he was on World Cup duty with France.

Arsenal and Lyon have been among the clubs linked with the 23-year-old, and while the French outfit have enquired about the playmaker, Triaud believes nothing more will come of it.

He told 20 minutes: "An official from Lyon called one of our officials to talk. But there was no concrete proposition, it all remained vague.

"Frankly, we don't care, we are absolutely not attracted (to selling him to Lyon)."

Arsenal still in chase for Bremen ace
Arsenal - Per Mertesacker remains on Emirates wanted list

Arsenal are set to continue their pursuit of Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker.

The German international has impressed in the nation's World Cup run, and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly ready to step-up his interest come the end of the World Cup.

Mertesacker started his career at Hannover 96, graduating from the youth team to make his senior debut as a teenager in 2003.

After three solid seasons at Die Roten, Werder paid €5 million to secure the giant centre back's services at the Weserstadion.

An ever present since signing for the club, Mertesacker's stock has risen with continuous fine performances in both the Bundesliga and Champions League.

International recognition has also come to the 25-year-old, who has 66 caps to his name thus far. Influential in South Africa, the linchpin will have an important role to play in the semi-final against Spain.

Despite recent agent comments suggesting the player does not wish to leave his homeland, Wenger is being linked with a move in excess of £10 million as he looks to build a defence capable of sustaining a title challenge.

With money to spend and L’Orient’s Laurent Koseielny thought to be on the verge of signing, it's clear that the north London club mean business this summer ahead of the new Premier League season.

Clubs start to offer keepers to Arsenal

Portuguese international keeper Eduardo has been offered to Arsenal by his current club Sporting Braga according to The Daily Mail.

Although Arsenal are set to sign Fulham and Australia’s Mark Schwartzer, Eduardo would only cost the Gunners a sum of £3.4m which is apparently a cheap price for the keeper who conceded only once in 4 games in the WC.

27 year old Eduardo was supposed to join Italian outfit Genoa, but for some odd reason Braga would rather him play in England, and precisely at Arsenal.

Arsenal though would be left with the small problem of getting rid of Manuel Almunia, whom the fans would love to see leaving after a not-so-great season for the keeper that had cost the Gunners both the EPL and CL titles (according to their fans).

Marseille coach Didier Deschamps hints he'd like to sign Arsenal's Samir Nasri
Return of Gunners' Frenchman a possibility for OM?

Olympique Marseille coach Didier Deschamps has admitted that he wouldn't mind seeing Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri back at his club, though he acknowledges that at present it is unlikely.

Deschamps has claimed that economic reasons were behind the player's departure from the French outfit to north London in 2008, and that Nasri was not keen on the move anyway.

When asked whether he'd like to see Nasri return to his club, Deschmaps replied, according to L'Equipe: "Why not? But I think he is doing well exactly where he is!

"He did not want to move to Arsenal. He had just had a very good season.

"When he left, there was an economic need for OM. And when these players go to clubs like Arsenal, we can no longer fight."

Meanwhile, Deschamps was also keen to retain the services of Nigerian defender Taye Taiwo.

"I do not want him to leave. He is in demand because has has quality, but for the moment, I do not intend to seek a replacement because I do not want him to go," the coach added.

"But we'll be sure to find the best solution for the player and the club."

Nasri will be great next seaon :)

Arsene Wenger's BlackBerry prevents Gunners pushing through deal for Laurent Koscielny

Arsene Wenger's BlackBerry is the only thing preventing the Gunners completing the deal to sign French defender Laurent Koscielny.

The Arsenal manager, currently working for French television in South Africa, has been unable to give his final seal of approval on the deal because he has left his mobile phone back in London.

Koscielny's agent claims Lorient have forwarded a new finely tuned version of the original proposal to Arsenal and to Wenger which is unlikely to be met by any resistance.

If he signs for Arsenal i think he will be a French international within a year.
