which the AM's have done with their third album which has split the fans down the middle

the best bands do this

I remeber Kid a by Radiohead was hated but now everyone loves it

To be fair Arctic Monkeys got the record for the fastest selling debut album in UK chart history. Not alot of 'indie' bands could say that around that time. Plus the first album was more rock.

Partly thanks to NME jumping onto them like a dog in head and overhyping the crap out of them.

Former Depeche Mode keyboardist Alan Wilder, describing the current state of the music industry in an article for Side-Line magazine, used the Arctic Monkeys as an example in his criticism of the use of dynamic range compression in modern recording techniques, calling the song "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor", "a bombardment of the most unsubtle, one-dimensional noise."

Alan Wilder, Depeche Mode? He did an article awhile back. I find it to be a great phrase. So I used it. I don't see the big deal. It's hardly as if I robbed a bank. I know where I got it from. And it wasn't Wikipedia.

Also ArsenalForever I know AM's were big before NME jumped onto them but they did help propel them.

Christ, I'm sorry I ever went against the almighty Monkeys.

InOne 06-12-2009 10:07 PM

Well I think we have the two biggest AM's fans in Ireland on this forum lol

Iceman 06-12-2009 10:08 PM

Im just saying you tried to make that sound like it was your opinion that you came up with. Also I already said I do think they were over hyped at the beginning but I think it was with good reason......3 number 1 albums in 3 years.....you can clearly see theyve grown as a band and as for this "bombardment of one dimensional music" i'd say have a listen to humbug....it split fans completely.......nothing like the first 2 albums

crazy fan rant over/

Well ... it was. I thought the Arctic Monkey's were overrated and used cheap studio techniques [Black Eyed Peas are also huge culprits of it] long before Alan Wilder tied me to a chair and hypnotized me into thinking it :conf:.

I just paraphrased the guy because he put it better than I ever could. It's pointless saying 'as Alan Wilder once said' because most people on this forum have no idea who he is .

Iceman 06-12-2009 10:14 PM

I think they are an amazing band with a great lyricist......some songs are just pure genius.......505, Balaclava, RiotVan, The Bad Thing

arsenalforever 06-12-2009 10:14 PM

plus the mode had to wait years to become huge while the Am it took one single:dance:

That's not strictly true. They were big from the start but quickly changed when Vince Clarke left to form Yazoo after Speak & Spell. Whenever they felt they were getting to poppy they backlashed against that.

Shaun 06-12-2009 10:18 PM

i just think it's too soon to say AM are the best band of all time :(

because they really aren't. and the cure's longevity / influence outshines them.

I never got into the cure at all so im completely biased, plus the fact that AM are on of my fav's....:spin:

Stu 06-12-2009 10:20 PM

And as far as frontmen's hairdos go, The Cure > The Arctic Monkey's.

Coz' we all know that's what really matters :laugh2:.

Backcombing

never said they were:joker: but they are going in the right direction of becoming great. I agree the cure are out since 1978 of course they have more influence but the monkeys have sold out tours and broke records so early in their career shouldn't be looked down upon

Shaun 08-12-2009 06:39 PM

:o The Cure win.

Stu 08-12-2009 06:49 PM
