The only one talking sense on this tread and not coming across as a puritanical hysteric... is ElProximo.

Somebody thinks that Dave's kids go to private schools? Where on earth did they get that? I know exactly which schools they go to (or went to in the case of his eldest), they're far from private I can tell thee.

Dave: "What about people that fly"

Andrew: "That was a film, it was called superman"

Care to enlighten us what Dave was thinking of?

David is not making money from all this nonsense.. you could make as much or more as an Insurance Salesman or nearly anything else.

I am happy someone is clearly explaining to him why these things are not happening. I do find its the best way to deal with these types.
Good for Andrew (though i haven't seen this convo yet).

Lol, do you actually believe he is going to convince him otherwise? For Dave to make people believe he has healing powers, he would obviously need to deceive people. These methods are employed by "psychic mediums" and other crackpots.

He was thinking of the many people who have levitated/flew call it what you want. Joseph of Cupertino was the most famous, he's the patron saint of aviators.

I missed it, tuned in when it was the aftermath and Rachel was crying that she upset Andrew.

They are all delusional and Mass delusion is a well known phenomenon.

He is also the patron saint of people with a mental handicap, test takers, and weak students.

Altho... i did see Dave hover inches off the ground in one of those vids right enough.

His arse happened to be attached to a wheelchair at the time tho... while he conned the public he has so much love for into believing he was a real monk that just happens to be wheelchair bound.

What a guy! "there's a lot of glory in a wheelchair" ya know!

It would indeed.

The problem here is that I'm far more familiar with this than you are. I had already communicated with David BEFORE any BB11 came around,
and,
I deal with these people (similar and related cults) and the people involved in them on a regular basis.
You (and about 4 others here) are so UNfamiliar with this kind of thing you are shouting out 'The Butler Did it!' because you just assume that is what happens here.
No.

The sad fact is - David and a number of these cult members are (and this is worse) absolutely CONVINCED of these claims.
You can call it 'self-deluded' and I will strongly agree.

David does not 'make people believe' anything. David believes it and they believe it.
They believe it.
Yes, they are 'deceived' but it is not a case of 'David deceives' because he is just as convinced as anyone else involved or more.

This is not the same as a phony psychic medium and you need to try and understand why these two things are what we call 'different'.

Exactly!
That is the question and problem and what this ought to be taken down to and what David should be challenged with.

When I ask them I get a few different answers along this lines:
- It empowers them to be ever greater and more enthusiastic witness.
- It helps others see God is real.
- Specifically David's group will simply explain that before they were doing these things they (David, whoever) was a drunk, drug-addict and doing drugs all the time. So now they do this instead. Which you are to understand is healthier.

Peter Plunker 14-07-2010 08:00 PM

There's that C word again.

stonedape 14-07-2010 08:11 PM

Have you guys seen religious people trying levitate? They basically cross their legs and bounce up and down on soft surfaces. Major LOL material. Or if they're an all out charlatan they'll do the old hidden chair trick or something similar.

We're on a rotating rock. If someone could remove their gravitational bond to earth they would continue to float up to space indefinitely in a tangential line. Same goes for any object they claim to make levitate. It wouldn't just hover. <3 gravity

ETA: I loved Andrew's astrology pwnage, and was waiting for some Dave destruction. Now on to Mario's alien conspiracies, which are ironically the most plausible of the three.

Unless there's an invisible, silent force propelling them up and around (bad gas, maybe?) they/their object are not going to be hovering over the same point on earth,. And they're not typically talking about using a force to overcome gravity, they usually claim it has to do with removing gravity selectively...which is so ridiculous I don't know where to start. That's why I'm forced into theoretical fantasy physics.
