They're releasing their albums at almost the same time. Britney isn't what she used to be, Gaga took over. I'm sorry but whether you like her or not (I'm not her biggest fan to be honest), she owns the market right now. There is a bigger expectation and wait from Gaga's album than Britney's.

Bad strategy from Britney's label to release it at the same time Gaga does because Lady Gaga will own the business for the rest of the year. You know she will. Like I said, I'm not her biggest fan but from an objective and marketing point of view, Gaga wins.

GaGa's album isn't till May, Britney is March, generally her singles chart lower and lower and they burn out towards the 3rd/4th single.

I'd imagine Britney would be almost finishing her year as GaGa starts hers

There's room for more than one female artist, people.

Many female artists have sold big in recent years.

And then new ones come along to replace them, just like every other facet of popular music. Britney Spears is no different to the rest of them.

well she certainly still seems to have a huge fanbase in America and I don't think Gaga is her direct competition...or replacement. She's stood her ground against many rivals over the past 10 years or so.

Her first song is released in February right ? A simple song from Gaga will eat the business. Yes we will talk about Britney but Gaga will be everywhere with her newest song.

Fame is very fickle though. Where's Ashanti these days? If you get too complacent, you're gone - Britney Spears has been extremely complacent releasing this kind of crap, and it's reflecting in her record sales. Christina Aguilera's struggling along and she's generally recognised as one of the most definitive voices of our generation... I don't know what's keeping Britney up there, but I'm positive that her age is going to be her undoing.

If Britney's label are smart, they'd release her 2nd single just as the BTW hype is dying down. And sort of alternate single releases :p

Zippy 03-02-2011 05:14 PM

Bring on the Gaga backlash!

Yeah so in february

I agree, Britney's label should release her single when Gaga's new song is declining yet they made a big strategic and marketing mistake.

I wouldn't agree with that. I acknowledge Gaga is huge over the world right now but Britney still managed to debut at #1 in America last week with her new single? Plus she topped the iTunes charts nearly worldwide, she still has appeal. She clearly still has a big fanbase and that's not going to die down anytime soon. That's probably true just because Gaga is more revelant nowadays where music and internet is more popular than ever and she appeals to a more wider audience than Britney.

How are they releasing at the same time though? Britney's album is out in early March and Gaga's album is out in May. Both will be able to do well, Britney won't release a new single until March anyway so she could easily get another #1 with it. I do agree that Gaga will probably be everywhere over the rest of the year though and she will get much greater sales and longetivity with her songs.

They should and would wait for born this way to die down before releasing the second single but lets face it, lady gaga songs have a tendency to keep going and going, Britney wouldn't release a second single until september if she waited for the Born this way hype to go.

Lady gaga is only more marketable because she is younger, newer and doing all sorts of stupid things like her meat dress to stay in the media hype and i think this eventually will be her undoing.

I'd love them to both have a fight to the death with the winner getting shot in the back.

It's Britney's fans who are trying to stir up this Britney/Gaga war, just to prove that Britney is still relevant enough to even be considered a threat to anyone.

Britney has only had 4 #1s in her 12 year career. That's disastrous, especially during her peak. Look at Rihanna, Katy Perry, etc. They already broke that record in a mere 4.

Britney's fan base are the ones buying up all her stuff, not the masses. This is the reason her new single is tanking. The masses ain't buying, and her fans already bought it.

Miss Spears is beyond over, and I don't think she even cares anymore. They should just turn her into a CGI puppet. 30 years old, 2 kids, and she still has to have a parent look after her. Pathetic.

Zippy 04-02-2011 12:30 PM

Why you lot still all talking like Gaga's presence will eclipse all else? Last time I looked there were more than one position in the charts. It doesn't matter who takes the number one slot. Especially these days.

And shockhorror....the whole world does not love Gaga. There's millions who will gladly look elsewhere for entertainment. Maybe towards somebody who actually has a personality and who doesnt come across like some cold expressionless clothes dummy.

No it's not actually, believe it or not Gaga fans are also making digs at Britney on a constant basis.

Hardly disastrous. Digital sales are much more revelant these days, if a song can get #1 on iTunes, it can get #1 on the Hot 100. Katy and Rihanna are both big digital sellers where as they don't sell that many albums. The radio and internet are much more relied on to make a hit single these days and both of them would not have achieved 4 #1's without these.

How is it tanking though? It debuted at #1 in it's first week with the highest digital sales ever for a female artist and was the most played song ever on radio in a single day. It's declining a bit now because she's just relying on the radio and word of mouth to sell the song, when the video is released it'll start climbing again.

She's not over, you just have to look at her album sales for her past 2 LPs to figure that out and no doubt Femme Fatale will be a big seller and another #1 for her too. She has a parent to look after her because of her infamous breakdown a few years back, she's completely turned her life around since then and the conservatorship will be removed soon anyway.

I did like her and still like her music. But now Im sooo bored and irritated by her wannabe fans and all this teasing and antisipation crap. Building her up like its the second coming or summat.

So now I just hope I don't love her new record. Mediocres not good enough. Im so ready to hate on her now.
