When I look back on my childhood I wonder how I managed to survive at all. It was, of course, a miserable childhood: the happy childhood is hardly worth your while. Worse than the ordinary miserable childhood is the miserable Irish childhood, and worse yet is the miserable Irish Catholic childhood.

Have you read Angela's Ashes? It's a lot different to the film. I've heard he was accused of fabricating it. I don't think he did but there is lots of detail in the book from when he was like 5-12.

No I never read the book, it was years ago that I saw the film as well
