oh why add it

Jack_ 23-05-2013 04:01 PM

The good thing about this is that it means at least they're fully committed to whatever twist or theme this is going to be, and it should (hopefully) in theory, last the entire series. So rather than some pathetic launch night twist, '#whatsthesecret' is actually going to be something substantial...

I seriously hope it's two houses or something. An increased prize fund would be amazing too :amazed:

It might just be a false alarm, they might be basing it off the "eco-friendly" article:

Channel 5 is calling it 'Big Brother: Secrets & Lies' in press materials (such as the new photos)

That doesn't necessarily mean it will be called 'Big Brother: Secrets & Lies' on the show, in TV listings etc, but taglines for previous series - such as 'The Final Send-Off' or 'Zero Tolerance' - were never referenced in press materials, so it looks like it could be different this time.

Jack_ 23-05-2013 04:04 PM

Can they plz just release the eye at midnight now, that'd be perfect

Marsh. 23-05-2013 04:06 PM

Yeah, seeing the eye would top it off.

Tregard 23-05-2013 04:07 PM

Don't worry people, it's just Big Brother, everyone is still just calling it that.

cheeky_monkey 23-05-2013 04:13 PM

Sounds exciting but I will always call it Big Brother and nothing else! :D

Marcus. 23-05-2013 04:16 PM

come on
it be the icing on the cake

Its tacky.

Completely disagree. Think about it, non-viewers and ex-viewers who don't like the show in it's current form and don't watch enough Channel 5 to see all the adverts see from the listings or their EPGs that it's had a big enough change to the format this year to merit a subtitle and they give it a try. They see the back to basics eco-house, they learn about the big secrets twist and they see it's got a competent (and attractive) presenter again and they decide to stick with it for a bit, viewing figures increase. It doesn't have to be permanent, once it's done it's job they can either drop it or change it annually depending on that year's theme.

They're not changing the show name, they're just giving this particular series a sub-title rather than a number, BBAU were planning to do it last year, the most recent BBAU was initially named Big Brother: Secrets.

Jack_ 23-05-2013 04:21 PM

Yeah I agree with Sid, the subtitle in the listings will attract the attention of casual viewers. If it's just 'Big Brother' you might get people thinking 'ah that's back again, cba with that this year' whereas if it has 'Secrets and Lies' on the end of it people will end up intrigued and may just tune in to see what's going on.

DigitalSid 23-05-2013 04:21 PM

It's of note that BBAU 4, which also had a secrets theme and 'What's the secret?' promo campaign also went back to basics, so if you want an idea of what to expect, it's probably something like that but with the basics being more the basics BBUK started with.

Vladimir 23-05-2013 04:22 PM

I don't think they'll actually change the title. It's just to build the hype until the series starts.

Emma's promo photos are great, I'm so excited!

This is what I don't want.

They don't need the whole series to resolve around a twist. If they change too many aspects it'll end up feeling like a spin off.

What if Big Brother: Secrets and Lies is actually a new spin off show, Unlikely but possible. Plus if the main show is called secrets and lies I wouldn't count on BBBOTS name changing..

Thankyou for telling me! I'm so excited about BB starting! :D:elephant:

It's the series sub-title, see above, it's not a rename of the show as a whole, but it isn't just a series promo tag for the ads, that's '#whatsthesecret'.

We already know from mention of the Saturday ep being called 'Bit On The Psych' that BOTS as a title is staying for the spin-off. Plus the promo pics are for the show as a whole, not just BOTS, hence Emma being positioned in front of the others despite only presenting BOTS 3 nights a week this year.

From what I saw of it on the Australian version, it only properly effected the first few weeks (not seen much of the French version), hopefully it won't be as brief as that but hopefully it won't dominate the whole show throughout. Maybe a secrets twist for the first two weeks then a lie related task or twist for a week or two later on.

This.

alfiegreen 23-05-2013 05:09 PM

It seems like this twist will at least last for a week or two! If not the whole series?
The launch show twist, Celebrity Big Brother: The Basement Twist LIVE was worded like that on the EPG?

Jake. 23-05-2013 05:12 PM

I doubt it's ACTUALLY called that, more of just a theme

This is the series title, that was just for one live show.

EddyEagal 23-05-2013 05:42 PM

It wont appear on the titles. It's just a tagline which is very significant to the twist. It may appear on the listings, but not in the titles. It's no big deal, it's still big brother.

The name of the show doesn't appear in the titles anyway, just the eye, only the spin-offs get name checked.

Benjamin 23-05-2013 06:06 PM

It sounds like a bloody documentary about how the show is edited over the years. :conf2:
