The thing is Mary Jane gives you a high, lifts you out of your daily life.

That logic denies people to make intelligent choices

Exactly. It looks like Salman believes what he reads in the papers and hears on the news. His logic assumes no one who uses the drug has any self control.

Blame Salman, he suggested it.

Nemo123 09-11-2013 11:42 PM

It's preferable to boose, and the police would have easier nights, with less aggression on the streets. The hospitals would have quieter evenings, with fewer drunks and victims of drunken violence.

Vote for Nemo123 for Prime Minister!

Nemo123 09-11-2013 11:47 PM

PM's in Britain go to Harrow or Eaton, except John Major, who I think was the best PM Britain has had in my lifetime.

Nobody can, they aren't up for election.

Nemo123 09-11-2013 11:57 PM

What makes me trust Major is, I always though he was a good soul, genuine and sincere. Recently he came out of the woodwork to condemn energy price rises.

He also tucked his shirt into his underpants, the sign of a man who can be trusted!

He wore his underpants outside his trousers, allegedly.

I'm not so sure, I think it's different. People start on weed and find no problems/only benefits and it naturally leads them to wonder if other illegal drugs are also not all as bad as is made out, and if just tried every now and again won't have any real harmful effect. I've seen someone I know go from shying away from weed to being happy to try cocaine in just a few months, and I do think there is a progression.

Not that I'm using that as an argument against legalisation, I actually think that legalising it and allowing it to be distributed in a regulated and legal way would basically normalise it and not lead to any slippery slope of illegal drugs

Nemo123 10-11-2013 12:41 AM

I'd legalise morphine, heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, opium, the whole lot. Leave it up to the individual to decide. I'd only prohibit seriously dangerous drugs, ones that are just bad.

Nemo123 10-11-2013 12:46 AM

Far far more people die from legalised drugs like alcohol and tobacco than die of prohibited drugs.

I think the person you know is the exception not the rule.

There are millions of people who drink but are not alcoholics as is there are millions of people who smoke weed but feel no desire to start to inject themselves. I dont know anyone who has made that progression.

No ... but that argument extends to so many recreational activities. No one needs to do anything but if that's what people want to do it's entirely their prerogative and if anything isn't needed it's their basic rights being revoked under the guise of 'morality'.

What's also grating is this misconception you seem to have about 'druggies' being smelly, psychotic freaks injecting needles at your local park, which is wrong. Certainly being high doesn't affect your cognitive abilities in the sense that you can still function totally normal as you usually would, so I'm not really sure what you're getting at with that one.

How many drug users do you know, actually? Because the majority of cannabis smokers at least are perfectly normal, functional members of society who enjoy the odd spliff from time to time, not spaced-out nutcases who do them 24/7.
