If you have RT, Russian Television, you might be lucky enough to have seen the programme I saw last night. Her interview with Luke "Ming" Flannagan". Oxana Boyko.

![]() He can be a sarcastic knob at times but this is something he has been fighting for for years and years now in fairness to him. He speaks on the issue with much more eloquence than our other elected representatives. Unfortunately the bill to regulate Cannabis was - obviously - defeated in the Dail. It was the government and their party line against a very small group of independent TD's. However the buck has dropped on open dialogue about Cannabis in this country so this is a start, not an end. Ireland will be one of the last dominoes to fall in this worldwide regulation effort that is taking hold but the domino will fall. We'll just take some time on it because you know ... it's Ireland. The arguments against Cannabis those in opposition read out in the Dail were hilarious copy and paste efforts from the internet. I saw the leaders of this country use a weird hybrid of scientific terminology and street slang entirely without a knowledge of context. Most of them looked like they were reading from a sheet for the first time in their lives - passing off a counterfeit school project as their own. Actually most of them sat it out in the Dail bar when just a few bothered to show up to hear the extensive literature in favor of regulation. Seriously. I'm not making that up. There is a bar in our house of power and the TD's like to have a good old piss up there every now and then to celebrate the latest enactment of protecting the children and/or selling our Republic down the river. When the bill was defeated those opposed jeered and heckled. It was a deplorable classroom scene. I watched the stream over two days. They may as well have chucked paper airplanes at those in favor and called them emo fagots. The good old boys. They're who run our country. The thickos who were never particularly good at any subject but were 'good lads' and were born and raised into their party lines where they came to fruition in the world of on campus youth politics. An arena filled with about as much boundless passion as a call center. My opinion, obviously, is this : In no way is Cannabis perfectly safe but it's dangers are either created or exacerbated by it's illegality. We need it regulated. We need to create a multi million euro [pound then, fuckers] market of safer Cannabis you can chose based on strength and effects. We need it treated as a health issue and not a judicial one. Blah blah blah. I've said it all before. "But Stu we have increasing evidence that Cannabis with a high level of THC can cause underlying mental health problems to come to the fore". Great. The problem of high ratio THC:CBD strains is a problem created by illegality. See where I'm going with this? Can of worms, baby. Last edited by Stu; 08-11-2013 at 01:18 AM. |

Stu my little cumquat, where is the limit on the strength that would be classed as legal?
As an ex addict I could have drank enough spirits to floor the average elephant... My point is once you build a tolerance to this legal substance what then?

Tolerance will build regardless of what strain you're smoking and it's a smokers Achilles heel really. Everyone gets it and the only way to make it drop is to take tolerance breaks or not cane the stuff too much. You'll only really 'stop' getting high if you're smoking continuously throughout the day which is counterproductive to ... well ... everything anyway. When I was a serious boozer I could put away a 70cl of Jameson and have a stagger about town without too much trouble but that was going to end up killing me eventually. Do the tobacco companies want this rubbing their hands at the prospect of lots of lovely new addicts? The responsible users are never the issue are they, but as with alcohol young people can sometimes make bad choices and not respect these limits. Not suggesting it would be specifically a youth issue, but if it followed a similar pattern to alcohol (binge drinking) it's not a great prospect to me.

If you go to America nobody smokes it with tobacco. In fact it's kind of looked down on, really. You would look out of place crumbling a cigarette into a joint. The weed is clean and smokeable all on it's own, and the regulation and commercialisation of it has popularized vaporizing and edible options. I use a vaporizer myself. It was a great investment because I don't smoke tobacco anymore either and wouldn't encourage anyone to. It's a weird feeling suddenly getting nice and toasted without actually feeling anything go in to your lungs. Much healthier and more clear headed, because you lose that initial kind of dizziness that comes with the brief oxygen depletion caused by smoking anything. People are always going to be there to abuse anything. You can always bring that up as an anomaly no matter what you're talking about. The current system is hindering more things than it's helping still, I feel. |

Medical use only is actually a work around, rather than strictly what it states. You just have to say something ridiculous like you're an artist struggling for inspiration, or you can't sleep, and you'll get a prescription without any hassle. |

People simply need to petition their MP and say, simply, they want cannabis to be legalised.

For those who have stressed the strength, when it' legal and regulated, that won't be an issue.

Of course not, in the UK they'll simply slap a "Green Tax" on the purchase to "Save the World"

They'll slap a tax of course, but it will still undercut the illegal market by a long chalk. Otherwise it wouldn't work. AND with licensed vendors there'd be a guarantee of quality.

Well that's our choice. The thing is you should not be allowed your preferences on everybody else.
