what's Big Brother without a good showmance?

minty3 24-05-2015 01:28 PM

Not really a fan of them they can be quite boring saying that i adored aaron and faye

crazycolaist 24-05-2015 01:29 PM

Such a LQ post. Ofcourse no

Jack_ 24-05-2015 01:39 PM

Really don't care either way tbh and I've never understood why people do

Though I prefer it if a showmance is messy and/or causes divisions and drama, i.e Steven and Kimberly or Chanelle and Ziggy. If it's plain sailing then that's a little boring, if it's providing a storyline then I'm all for it

That's true but it's their choice.

Big Brother producers STILL after all these years seem to think that it's all we want to see and so push it constantly, dominate the highlights with it and basically take airtime away from the other more interesting things going on in the house.
The show is about human relations. They have to reflect what is going on in the house. Jade and Nick are spending a lot of time together and the other housemates are questioning it. If you can't stand watching such developments you shouldn't be watching a show featuring good looking young people with nothing to hang on to in there but each other.

Don't get me wrong, part of me being so interested in Big Brother all these years is that I love to watch the housemates reactions to different hardships and scenarios and how certain friendships and relationships evolve in the secluded environment but it's the whole way any showmance takes over the entire show that annoys me so much.

So what do you think?
I think the word "showmance" should be banned. I have seen it used for years by people who think it's clever when it is not. Whether I enjoy the relationship between two people developing on BB depends entirely on whether or not I like the people involved.

Beetlejuice 24-05-2015 01:47 PM

Has there ever been a year where 2 of the housemates didn't have an attraction to each other either on one side or both? And do people really not expect that to happen when you put young, and sometimes good looking people in a confined space away from friends and family for weeks?

LukeB 24-05-2015 01:50 PM

No I hate them.

Jamesy 24-05-2015 01:52 PM

Don't mind them unless it takes over the show and is what the highlights are largely made up of, or if those people in the 'showmance' become boring characters and they don't show their true selves.

Kazanne 24-05-2015 01:53 PM

No,they are boring as hell and we don't get to see the 'real' housemates involved because of it.

Jay. 24-05-2015 02:01 PM

i don't mind them, but with this series, i do not think it needs them.

Razor 24-05-2015 04:49 PM

Showmances bore the hell out of me.

jaxie 24-05-2015 04:58 PM

I dislike them, however, sometimes they can be very entertaining. (Lee Ryan and his menage et trois, Michelle Bass and Chicken Stu).

No naked jacuzzi!!!

waterhog 24-05-2015 05:14 PM

i think we on this forum have the power to get bb to stop showromance and make a new fundemental rule in bb and cbb from now on all we need

someone from BB production to see this thread.

Amy Jade 24-05-2015 05:23 PM

For me it depends. I hate when they act like a couple and it takes over the show and the producers focus on the romance too much.

I will say though some of the romances have been subtle and I quite enjoyed watching them pan out. Grace and Mikey were a good pairing and although I hated him I liked seeing their relationship develop and they're still together so obviously it wasn't for the cameras.

Beetlejuice 24-05-2015 05:29 PM

Grace and Mikey were in bed with each other within a week and brought nothing to the show as a couple imo.

Helen and Paul were entertaining at the time. Jade/PJ, Kate/Spencer, Adele/Lee/Sophie and Alex/Adele were all a big part of BB3. Michelle and Stuart were funny at times during BB5. I found Chanelle to be quite funny in general so I enjoyed her on/off thing with Ziggy. Aaron/Faye were often very funny together as well (and are still together I believe).

It really depends on the people involved. I know Digital Spy is always complaining about this stuff but I remember how many of them loved Emilia and Jeremy on Celebrity Hijack and were willing them to get together.

Adamw92 24-05-2015 05:33 PM

I don't hate them but I don't enjoy them either. I don't mind a bit of harmless flirting but I think thats about as far as it should go.

Firewire 24-05-2015 05:34 PM

I'd love a gay show/romance but I hate them any other time

The gay showmances have always been very forced imo

Talking about Charlie/Rodrigo and Christopher/Mark

GLENN BILL BB7 24-05-2015 05:37 PM

The only real romance ever to last on the show surprisingly is Grace/Mikey (Grickey)

They are married and have kids now LOL

I think Tom and Claire from BB1 were married and had a child but sadly split up so I would class that as genuine.

Steven and Kim are married too, so maybe they're genuine also

waterhog 24-05-2015 05:41 PM

rodrigo - i don't remember that - pure friendship if i remember correctly. loved him - he was so funny.

GLENN BILL BB7 24-05-2015 05:46 PM

Notice how they put like 2 or 3 gay guys in some series' but they never put in 2 or 3 Lesbians?

Only Lesbian storyline I remember was Shabby fell in love with Caohva (Whatever way her name is spelt)

Both gross, a proper one would be good where it's not to further game

There were 3 in series 1 - Anna, Nicola and Sada. The latter two got together after the series, too.
