A lot of people say that the English language is one of the hardest languages to understand?

It is easy when you were born here and only understand English.

I know that Remy is well versed in quite a few languages, and that takes somebody with a real good memory indeed!

That's me out the way

My memory is terrible:sad:

Anyway, if anybody is struggling to find the answer on a language translater, then just leave it, or find someone else who speaks the language fluently and can tell you whether it is true or not.

It is a very small problem, isn't it:thumbs:

english language is so easy to understand really, its not complicated, less tenses than in french, no accents and stuff like that !

Bells 10-05-2007 08:15 PM

Haha I'm glad it's been sorted. English is a really difficult language to learn I think, but you speak (well, write) it so well Remy! As L said, probably better than a lot of English people even! I bet you speak it clearly as well.

Sam 10-05-2007 08:16 PM

Actually, you're right. There's the odd thing in English which is irregular, but generally we have less tenses and strict grammar, PLUS no accents - which is why I find French a bit of a nightmare to learn...

Fortunatly, everybody is cool with me, and don't judge me by a "false" mistake.

by the way, good night everyone !

U2Uing is a great way of sorting misunderstandings, but a topic like this is very good, as it shows how a small disagreement can happen and become bigger & bigger.

But, by mutual understandings and agreeing to disagree eventually solves the problem. So the possible fall-out between two members is nipped in the bud instead:thumbs:

Even when it didn't start out that way

I think that might be the first time you have called it a "U2U" instead of a UTU Nick.

nodisharmony 10-05-2007 09:07 PM

I have said UTU so many times and just didn't spot the mistake for ages:bawling: nevermind, I have corrected now Linda. Nice of you to point it out though

lol. It's true Nick.

Sunny_01 10-05-2007 11:00 PM

it would be such a shame to fall out over this. I Think Sam that you possibly should apologise to Remy! he may not always get it right but he relies on friends not to make a big deal of it! maybe this should have been dealt with away from the open forum. Its kind of humiliating to have your faults talked about in public for someone to try and prove a point :flowers:

Sam 11-05-2007 05:45 AM

Yeah I suppose, but i didnt mean in it a humilating way

Captain.Remy 11-05-2007 06:00 AM

The thing is, some people said it's a mistake and some said it was correct. I can accept when I make a mistake but this time it's a big confusion, that's all. And I still upset the way it happened, there was no need to expose that here or call everybody on msn in order to show that. I know it was in order to help me, I'm not stupid, but the thing is, during 10 years nobody told me "I'm gone" was wrong, even now, and I know that I can use "I've been" (I know my irregular verbs perfectly lol ). My parents, both speak english fluently, I told them and 3 of my british exchanges, and there is no problem about it. Maybe it's not so english, but I still think you can use that. So now I hope you understand me better than yesterday and my reasons why I was so upset.
By the way, thank you everyone here cause you told me I have a awesome English, and sometimes better than some people on the forum, I'm really glad. Thanks !

Sam 11-05-2007 06:04 AM

Yeah, i feel sad about it too, it was a huge confusion, and im really sorry Remy, isent you a couple of u2us as well

Re the Babel fish thing http://babelfish.altavista.com/

I have been using that for ages for a round in a quiz I do.

You take a well known lyric and translate it in to another language.
Then you take the translation and translate it back in to English. The results can be very funny and there will be the odd key word that will give it away.

A very simple topical one. English to Italian to English.

London to Berlin all the direction from Paris to Tallinn Helsinki over to Praga does not import where we are - yeah yeah ye-ah Flying on to Amsterdam why interfered with them if you can hour we cruising in the sky and we are not singing it to you for.

Oh, and I have the up most respect for people that can speak more than one language.

That's a very positive thought Dr43%er:rolleyes:

But some people are ("not nice" people) and do speak two or more languages and I certainly wouldn't like them, or respect them.

Also, reading within that comment, it is implying that you respect those who speak more than one language.

But I would hazard an educated guess and certainly say that the majority of forum members would only speak "one language", so maybe it makes that large section of people rather bewildered and lost:puzzled:

I respect people who are worth respecting, regardless of whether they can speak more than one language.

Now that does make sense:thumbs:

Its all sorted now, me and Remy are friends again =]

Sunny_01 11-05-2007 04:19 PM

I think that Dr43% was saying that he respected that people can speak more than one language because of the committment it takes to learn them.

Not sure where your post came form or what motivated it Nick, I certainly did not for one minute think that he was saying he only respected those that could speak more than one language and dont really know where your confusion is coming from.

Sam 11-05-2007 04:21 PM

that was a bit uneccesary
