Just went out to walk the dogs and there people sat on the beaches over here, people are selfish and stupid and we’re going to be in lockdown for longer :bored:

Agreed but that's not our call to make, instead we just have to deal with ****ing morons that can't follow instructions unless they are forced to and even then it's ropey at best.

If you aren't shopping for essentials, don't go out. It should be simple but nope, most people tell themselves that this unprecedented situation is nothing to worry about and get mad when they are mildly inconvenienced.

Exactly, most people have definitely been listening, from almost everyone I know and what i've seen (apart from supermarkets) there's been a massive reducement in movement, I had no choice for the first time in two weeks to go to Birmingham city centre a few days ago, and the city was quiet. There will always be some people buying unnecessary items because realistically you can't expect a whole nation to co-inside unfortunately, maybe with stricter forces in place you could manage it such as China did, but the UK has a history of freedom and anti-socialist values so i'll doubt the government would ever enforce extremely strict measures.

There's always going to still be areas such as supermarkets that will be busy because food is essential, smaller towns I guess might not seen a giant difference because towns are often where most people live, City's are the dangerous areas as they're usually crowded areas where the virus could thrive because there's always a movement of people a reason as to why New York is going to probably be the worst affected area in the world.

In terms of the lockdown, I think it'll most defiantly go on for this entire month. no one can tell when lockdown can end because it's a virus, and things change on the daily. If I was to predict like everyone else I would say by early May they'll be some reductions. I'm all for people lives are more important the economy, but I really don't see the extreme predicts some people are saying like this will last months, the economy would collapse, they're would be more deaths from that then the virus, the lockdown needs to be in place until hospitals have the strength to support cases.

Tony Montana 04-04-2020 01:22 PM

That'll be amazing but sadly people won't listen.

we dutch also care about our freedom honestly, but staying at home is a absolute must now in this crisis

however you can still enjoy your freedom at home, i mean no one restricts you to stay indoors, your garden or balcony depending where you live is part of your home

also a suggestion of mine, do not watch the news too much, it can make you depressed if you constantly watch that

Two possibilities here:

1) They know it's not going to happen but are giving ultimatums to keep the lockdown as tight as possible. Using the idea of getting out as a "carrot" to encourage people to be safe.

My thoughts on this is that it is a HUGE error in terms of social psychology. When it's withdrawn for "naughtiness" at the last minute, there will be a drop in patience levels and disobedience will increase.

2) Alongside the clearly deliberately selected "we might still need to do herd immunity" govt press release "that was just one advisor" - they are baby-stepping a scared public into accepting that for economic reasons, certain aspects of lockdown will have to end long before the infection levels have decreased dramatically.

I'm edging towards believing option two because I think people are severely underestimating the looming economic catastrophe, whilst governments are all too aware of it. They can't say these things outright though because SoMed deems it "choosing money over lives" as they're incapable of understanding how closely the two are linked.

I checked the rules and when you go out for a walk you can actually sit on a bench half way along

its crazy I know as you should be under your bed with your tin hat on, but i checked and sitting on a bench is not outlawed

The public narrative seems to be the NHS are all good (even the people who run it appallingly in many cases) and the government are stupid and bad. The public are stupid and bad (mainly the poor thick ones) and them and the government are to blame for everything. If i clap the NHS once a week i can be absolved of any blame?

There will certainly be plenty of that later, so I agree. We should save our energy for now.

It wont be and I hope it isn't.

People are still flouncing the rules. Just today I drove past a local playing field to work and there were people kids playing...their parents clearly don't care about them.

Beso 04-04-2020 03:31 PM

I'm not clapping anymore for the NHS, I rekon doing that can spread the virus from your hands..

So my windows are tightly shut now on a Thursday night.

You can't spread it standing on your door step on from your window.

hijaxers 04-04-2020 03:47 PM

Well the roads outside were much busier late night than the prev Fri , way too many rule breakers.

user104658 04-04-2020 03:52 PM

No population of humans has ever been placed on this strict a lockdown for a prolonged period of time in written history, which means it has probably never happened, ever.
And we're not psychologically cut out for that level of cabin fever.

Compliance rates will drop steadily over time as people lose willpower and the idea that most people will still be complying even 50% in 3 months is very, very optimistic - let alone the 6 months+ that some people are predicting. I know people don't believe or maybe just don't like what I'm saying but . Quote me in 3 months if I'm wrong I suppose.

Scarlett. 04-04-2020 04:57 PM

I can't see it, Italy started their lockdown in Feb, and they're still locked down.

Even if we followed it, I don’t see it ending anytime soon. And I bet there are going to be a lot idiots in the parks the next few days.

Smithy 04-04-2020 07:08 PM

It’s not happening

I was just reading up on the Spanish lockdown rules.

You're only allowed out for food or medicine, to walk a dog, go to hospital or work if necessary.

Going out for exercise isn't allowed.

Lockdown has just been extended to 26th April, so six weeks in total so far.

Quote:

.....One of the strictest quarantines in Europe is in Spain, where people can only leave home to buy food and medicines, walk the dog, go to the hospital or commute to work if absolutely necessary. Fines for infringement range from a very specific €601 to an eye-watering €30,000, and the police are not holding back in dishing them out.

Unlike most other European countries, physical exercise is banned in Spain, but what about exercising while commuting to work? The answer is no.

In the Basque Country, police threatened to fine a man for cycling to the factory where he works, on the basis that exercise is forbidden and therefore he should take public transport. The government’s emergency decree says cycling is allowed only in case of force majeure, but it doesn’t make clear what that would entail.

The cyclist would have been in even bigger trouble had he lived in Madrid, where Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida has said local police will have “zero tolerance” with those who say they are going to work but cannot produce a certificate signed by their employer to prove it.....

The world is run by actual morons, you're more likely to catch a virus on a bus than on a bike .
