I dont smoke but I am not fascist enough to inflict my wishes on those who want to. I agree with the ban on smoking in enclosed spaces wherever there are or even likely to be non smokers however I fail to see how a ban on smoking in cars where children are transported can be enforced without a complete on smoking in any vehicles. Because then the government are removing a freedom from smokers who would never have kids in the car anyway, what measures are going to be introduced to compensate for this? Smokers only pulling places on all roads? Guaranteed smokers only car parking areas? And you still havent accepted that the only reason the Government doesnt ban it outright is because it brings into Treasury coffers more revenue than it costs. If it created a negative costing to the Health Service the government would have not only a moral duty of care but a fiscal duty to ban it outright, however its a nice little earner. |
A bus driver started smoking once. There were babies and children on that bus, yet he thought it would be okay for him to light up while we were waiting in a traffic jam. Needless to say, he got an ear full.

If phoning someone is banned in cars.. Then so should smoking and applying make up as all 3.. Make people take their eyes off the road and concentrate on something else.. And thanks twilight. |
I know! Why doesnt the government tell us our bedtime too? Obviously we cant think for ourselves
|
And how exactly does this get enforced?
|
I smoke in my own car, people who don't like it don't come in. Simple, I don't force anyone. And I always ask if I can smoke if I ever get in someone's car (except for my dad and friends because they're smokers too)

Yes, because it's just that simple isn't it... We're not all clean-living, god-fearing, Ned Flanders wannabe's LT. Some of us like to make our own choices, and that includes the choices which affect our own health and well-being. I, personally, do not subject my children to any unnecessary health risks, nor do I smoke for that matter. I'm well aware of the dangers of smoking, and I still support the right of adults to smoke in their own car or their own home. If I didn't want to be subjected to second hand smoke, I'd not get in their car. Simple as that. It's not quite as black/white as you make it out to be, so, do me a favour, and don't patronise me. |
