What a sweeping generalisation, not to mention a lame argument to Grimnir's post.

Quite ironic as well considering sweeping generalisations are something you constantly condemn

Hardly lame - common knowledge men are generally more competitive than women - and that is about egos! Men want to win! Deny that all you like - but it is true!

Who doesn't like to win? Being competitive is what makes men great and rule the world. Thats what gives us that extra edge.

Who are the best athletes? Men. Who are the best scientist? Men? Who are the best philosophers? Men. Who are the best politicians? Men. Who are the best musicians? Men. I can go on and on and on.

Whatever the field is, men DOMINATE it.

Men also dominate what women are supposed to be best at. The best hairdressers, fashion designers, chefs etc are all men

You demonstrate a lack of understanding of history and social economics.

Men have dominated those things to date because equality has been a more recent occurence - and women simply weren't able to participate in such things. Even as recently as the 50s, women were actively discouraged from doing anything outside the home - nevermind given the opportunity to study to become scientists, engineers or anything similar that was always considered men's domain! Girls were generally forced to do stupid subjects like needlework and cooking at school!

Times are changing - and those things will change in the future as many more women have careers and begin to compete on the same level as men!

Nothing Wrong with that.

Everything wrong with it - if you are forced to do it - when you want to do something else!

That doesn't happen in schools today - girls have the same choices as boys - which is the way it should be! That is why things will change - and in the future there will be many more women scientists, engineers etc.

Sorry Arista - but that is a stupid post!

People do not have their 'place' - women do not have their 'place' - people make their own choices in life!

Why on earth should intelligent women who are capable of being doctors, lawyers etc be forced into having children and staying at home! What a waste to society! This is a progressive society and we have moved on! It is recognised that women have the same rights to choice as men!

Men are just as able to learn to boil their own eggs - they shouldn't need a woman to do it for them. If they do - they are stupid men who aren't worth bothering with!

And everyone should be educated in health and looking after themselves - that has nothing to do with male/female roles in life!

Zippy 12-09-2010 05:05 PM

Arista is such a plonker on this thread.

There clearly is a human behind those computeristic posts. A sexist one.

are you trying to say these are fat?

MrGaryy 12-09-2010 05:21 PM

by that token, a man should be allowed to hit a woman as a woman can hit a man and face no consequences.

i'm not sure by the way, i'm just throwing that out there that equality must apply to all things.

They are fat.

but wether they should be treated the same? I don't know, they're totally different physically and mentally

Why? I know plenty of couples where the man is by far the better cook - and cooks most of the meals - what is wrong with that!

Being female doesn't make you enjoy cooking and it doesn't make you pre-disposed to being good at it! People are generally good at what they enjoy - and if people, including women, don't like cooking - they are less likely to be good at it!

We all have to cook to some degree - it is one of those necessities of life - for men and women alike!

Nothing like fat, it's because of comments like that that girls that aren't stick thin have no confidence.

I do believe in that actually. Always have.

If a woman hits a man or gets aggressive, there is no reason whatsoever for him not to retaliate.

Thats me and Gav all over

He is a great cook...mines not so good. I cook a nice sundays dinner but his cooking is better than mine in general. So much so that he usually cooks all our meals. He told me to get the hell out of the kitchen the other day :p

All I know is that if you go outside what is considerd a gender role. Wither you be male or female. Then you get ostrisized and made fun of by everyone. (both male and female).

Everyone is as guilty as each other for sexism.

I really don't see why people keep bringing physical strength into it - because, in reality, it is pretty irrelevant! The reason humans rule the planet and not many physically stronger mammels - is because of their higher intelligence!

Men do not all have the same physical strength - some are much stronger than others. Does that mean they should be treated differently - of course not. Emotional strength is much more relevant - and that is much more a character trait - not a gender one!

Well nature did make men physically stronger for a reason. They were intended to be the hunters and providers. Women the nurturers and home-makers.

Of course, we've deviated from that to some extent but the generalisation is still very much there. You don't see many women in physical labour jobs like construction for example.

And in terms of abuse the legal system will certainly take a man hitting a woman far more seriously than vice versa. Purely because men are deemed physically stronger and capable of more damage.

So the physical difference does come into play in all aspects of life. And you certainly still hear many women talking about wanting a big guy who can protect them!

Of course I realise why men were created physically stronger - but the reasons for that no longer apply in modern times! We have the intelligence to build machines to do the heavy lifting, for example!

I think it is just common sense that the law takes men hitting women more seriously - given the difference in physical strenth - just as a grown adult, man or woman - shoudn't hit a smaller, physically weaker child! It is far more likely to result in serious physical injury - and cannot be condoned in any way, shape or form - although this doesn't give women license to hit men - assault is assualt - and should be treated accordingly!

And women may feel safer in given situations when with a physically strong man - but that doesn't mean they want or need to be protected per se! But there are always certain types of soppy women - that can't cope without a man - but we certainly shouldn't all be tarred with the same brush!
