So heres the deal.

Apparently it detoxes your body and has been known to 'cure' health conditions. As I am getting next to no help with my ribs and painkillers have completely stopped working and docs are still no closer to discovering what the problem actually is, this is kinda a last resort.

At the same time..I have weight to lose. And apparently this is a quick way to lose it. I have slipped into terrible eating habits and have now put back on everything I lost after having James 10 months ago. I think losing around 2 stone would be good.

I'm thinking of doing 14 days. Apparently when you break the fast too, your body craves healthy food, so this would be a way to sort my diet out at the same time (been eating so much crap and craving chocolate so bad...)

I'm just wondering if anyone has had any success, or knows anyone that has...either from the weight loss perspective or the health benefits side of it. The health part is much more important to me than the weight loss, and there does seem to be a lot about it on the internet, but I don't trust google too much tbh. I don't want to get my hopes up too much for nothing

It sounds a bit odd to me, even with 5:2 you can have about 500 cals I would be worried if you had nothing in your system you could become lightheaded and pass out bit scary around the kids :/

But if its going to be another 4 months before thats sorted...I can't wait that long.

If its gallbladder thats causing it..will they just take it out? Its one of the things you don't actually need isn't it? Like an appendix?

If it turns out to be something simple to fix I'm going to be so pissed that I have been messed around so much

Your gall bladder must have had an ultrasound surely they looked at that when I had right upper quadrant pain, I had the gall out but the pain remained :/ Have you ever had your plasma viscosity checked, that will show the level of inflammation in your blood?
Maybe ask to be referred to rheumatology if you're having pain in soft tissues that might be the best place to try.
Do you feel any lumps? The thing mine tuned out to be was neuro lipomas that I may be having removed ... haven't decided to have the surgery yet :(

I have been referred to the pain clinic to try and get something sorted short term, however there was ANOTHER mess up with that appointment too but that one shouldn't take too long to rearrange. I just feel I should be doing something myself to try and fix myself tbh. I can barely sleep as usually it comes on at night time. During my rare pain free hours I could sleep like a baby, but I feel horrible doing it as usually its just when my daughter has finished nursery, or some other time when I should be giving the kids attention :(

The doctors are rubbish, you're right they just want to give out pills and send you on your way.

For me holistic health is the way forward, at Easter this year i was suffering with a virus, my chest felt tight and wheezy, this lasted for 10 days, my daughter then passed onto me another virus which was more like a flu virus, i suffered sweats, mucous on my lungs and in my throat, i was coughing but nothing would shift it, it felt more in the bronchi than in my lungs, so when i went to drs they said everything was clear, my temperature was slightly elevated, i had to sleep sitting up as i felt like i was choking if i lay down, this lasted 5 days, i then started to get intense pain in my stomach (just below my breast bone) this radiated to the right and travelled down to the right hip, i had a strong urge to vomit but couldn't so i was dry heaving, the pain made me feel like i was going to pass out and i was sweating like a pig! I ended up phoning an ambulance, as soon as i was in the ambulance i started vomiting, this vomiting lasted for 2 hours they then gave me anti sickness tablets which stopped the vomiting (it was amazing), i had an xray which showed nothing, the junior dr made a guess that it was possibly gastritis, to which i was sent home, it was 4 in the morning i had to get a taxi and because the anti sickness meds (a drip) were removed the vomiting returned, at 5 am i just curled into a ball exhausted and fell asleep, this was my turning point, the doctors know nothing about what's affecting me, i could only assume i had multiple food intolerances, my insomnia was also a factor as the body repairs when you sleep and if you don't sleep it won't repair, i know i had mild inflammation so i had to assume the protective mucus in my stomach was of poor quality, and was actually causing leaky gut syndrome, i also had to assume that i was also suffering from estrogen dominance, as soon as the dr put me on the mini pill, my whole body seemed to calm down (so check out estrogen dominance), also my thyroid levels are on the low side but within the normal range, mine was 1.3, so ask for the thyroid test if you've had it ask for the levels and do your research regarding foods that support thyroid function.

I wish you all the good luck in the world and the only advice i can give you is to listen to your instincts, listen to your body, don't be afraid to challenge the doctor, and do your research, i think my girls (now nearly 14!) also broke my body, but i feel that diet is my way forward, as i said in a previous post look into the nutri bullet (i also did a nutri bullet thread), it really has helped me and gave me a different connection to food, i understand now that i need food that looks after and supports my body, i've also found the foods that i have an intolerance to which is hard for me to accept, but if i want to continue having no health issues i must take my dietary needs into consideration.

The foods that my body can't handle seem to be dairy, gluten, tea and coffee, tomato based meals, onion and garlic as well as lemons, after 6 weeks off these foods i found that tea and coffee give me stomach ache, lemons aggravate my acid reflux as does tomato based meals, onion and garlic, dairy seems to increase mucus that makes me suffer with sinus congestion and a post nasal drip, gluten makes me feel tired and weak, concentration, memory problems, brain fog (dairy and gluten also make me windy!) And all of these foods affect my hiatus hernia and GERD.

I found all this out in 6 weeks:) that's better than what a doctor can do!

Oh yeah we do eat

24 hours fasting sounds insane, I think one of my friends mentioned doing that and constantly collapsing :worry:

How is there a right way or a wrong way to only drink water for 14 days??

It will affect different people differently tbh. If you have blood sugar issues going into it, diabetes, hypoglycaemia, hyperglycaemia etc... It very much could cause blackouts

Kizzy 12-06-2015 12:36 AM

I'd recommend anyone with acid reflux or suspects stones should take 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (with the mother) diluted in water a day. Ask for a helicobactor pylori test (bacterial infection) and once clear and/or treated start with a good quality probiotic to help improve your gut health, it really helped me when I decided what I was getting from the docs (painkillers and PPI) were actually making me worse.
Since I stopped taking them I'm still in some discomfort but it's not nearly as bad, and I know I'm not putting my liver under needless stress.
Really hope you get some kind of an answer Vicky :)

I agree Kizzy, i take PROBIO7v from Holland and Barratt and i know when i miss a few days!

My Dr prescribed PPI's and they never agreed with me, one lot gave me paranoia (i kept thinking an evil spirit was trying to possess me:laugh:) and another lot slowed peristalsis to almost stopping so my food just sat in my stomach for 2 days:shocked: i stopped them immediately.

Kizzy 14-06-2015 01:15 PM

You know when Vicky first posted this I thought she'd gone a bit cray... (no offence babe)
But looking at it from a perspective of acute pain associated with lipoma then it might not be so daft?
I might try water and fruit for a week see how I feel.

Vicky. 14-06-2015 01:17 PM

Yeah I think I'm going down that route aswell to see how it goes. Raw veg, fruit and water and nowt else.

I told my daughter about it, she's not impressed :/
Will have a word with my doc about it too, if it shrinks them enough for me to avoid surgery that's great.

iToby 16-06-2015 01:27 AM

Due to occasional bouts of depression I take to the bed for two or three days at a time, unable to even drag myself out of it to butter a slice of bread, never mind cook a meal. Times like this I live on two or three bananas for the duration, and feel like crap afterwards, my pee often looks like guinness I do be so dehydrated. So for someone to actually do this voluntarily sounds crazy to me.

I'm sorry to hear that itoby :( I would talk to your doctor about that guinness coloured pee can't be good no wonder you feel so down.
I'm not dehydrating don't worry anything but I'm drinking lots of water as well as 4 massive cups of juice a day it's great... so far

Vicky. 16-06-2015 09:10 AM

I'm gunna start this on monday. Have gavs other kids over this weekend so gunna need my energy  If I start on monday then my energy will be back by the next weekend

Kizzy 16-06-2015 10:08 AM

Are you doing just the water still vicky?

Vicky. 16-06-2015 10:22 AM

Not totally sure yet. water alone is apparently the most effective healthwise :S

Kizzy 16-06-2015 10:49 AM

I decided against that, I have a juicer (who knew) it's brilliant so getting the nutrients in liquid form bonus, I'm going to do it till I see the liver specialist again in september I think :)

rubymoo 16-06-2015 12:16 PM

Hope it goes well for you Kizzy and Vicky, i'll keep nipping in to read the thread to see how you're going.

I keep falling off the wagon:umm2:

I echo Kizzy's words iToby, you need to get that pee looked at.

Here's to good health:banana:

Kizzy 17-06-2015 08:55 AM

It could have been atmospheric pressure, it was muggy yesterday.

It could also be your body releasing toxins as it's being cleansed, or it could be that your body is having a tantrum and craving the foods that it's addicted to.

Keep with it for a few weeks (if you can) then introduce different foods one at a time, and note your reaction.

Day 8 for me, did you start today Vicky?

AnnieK 22-06-2015 05:46 PM

Do you have more energy kizzy? Any side effects other than the headache the other day?

Kizzy 22-06-2015 10:58 PM

I haven't felt that bad at all I'm really surprised Annie, I'm tired today but I went for a walk yesterday so that's probably it. I do think the amount of inflammation in my body has reduced a lot :)

Kizzy 24-06-2015 05:21 PM

Day 10 now, still feeling ok :)

Vicky. 24-06-2015 05:34 PM

Didn't start on monday coz Skye got took into hospital sunday night, and spending 2 nights in hospital theres not really anything to do except worry, watch TV and eat junk

AnnieK 24-06-2015 05:44 PM

Is she ok Vicky?

Vicky. 24-06-2015 05:52 PM

Yeah she is now. Just issues with her chest again like everytime she gets a cold :( Was a bit worse this time though as her oxygen was down to 60% and she had to wear an oxygen mask all of sunday night :S

Kizzy 24-06-2015 06:30 PM

Oh god Vicky so sorry to hear that, hope she's feeling much better now x
