65. Nothing Fails There's potential here. It's better than Love Profusion, but doesn't compare to Hollywood. 64/63/62. You Must Love Me / Don't Cry For Me Argentina / Another Suitcase In Another Hall Madonna's vocals in Evita are sublime. Sadly, I'm not a huge fan of the soundtrack itself, and so I'm quite happy to discard these three in one go. 61. Who's That Girl I find this track a wee bit annoying. Certainly underwhelming compared to the other WTG singles. |
60. Everybody Ahhh, M's debut single. It's a pleasant little track, but not a lot more. It's my second least favourite on her debut album. I just find the chorus pretty repetitive and draining, and the refrain in the last chorus is really not great in my opinion. 59. La Isla Bonita I can't deny that this is a thoroughly enjoyable and entirely iconic Madonna track. For some reason I just don't get into it as much as most of her other 80s/90s output. 58. Hanky Panky It's nice to hear Madonna do something a bit different here. A fun little track. 57. Girl Gone Wild Well, I bop. This track is SO 2012. It's probably the best imitation of the contemporary music scene Madonna has done in her career recently. It's my favourite post-Celebration single of hers, but obviously that doesn't say a lot. 56. Spotlight I love the 80s sound here, but it's just not that memorable. It's kind of an inferior Lucky Star. 4 minutes, Like A Prayer and Papa Don’t Preach top 3

TomC, interesting rankings, but "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" and "One More Chance" should've gone ages ago, and I would've saved "La Isla Bonita" and "Who's That Girl" for the top 20. They are classic Madonna songs.
I think "Spotlight" sounds more like "Holiday" than "Lucky Star". |
55. This Used to be my Playground A lovely, emotive ballad. 54. The Look of Love This song very effectively straddles being an heart-wrenching ballad and a BOP. 53. You'll See Really beautiful. It's very subtle, and it works well. 52. Take A Bow TAB is obviously very iconic, and a good song in its own right. I just find it a wee bit twee. 51. Crazy For You That chorus! It is a blend of sexy and emotive. Unfortunately, it's never impressed upon me enough to crack the top fifty. Wow, a ballad cull! REMAINING (Top 50!) Who remembers this from 16 years ago?
A tragedy that the cameraman cut to Timberlake just as Madonna was kissing Aguilera. |
50. Live To Tell This song has incredible potential. The only thing that lets it down for me is that I'm not a fan of the 'a man can tell a thousand lies' segment of each chorus. 49. Justin Timberlake - 4 Minutes (ft. Timbaland & Madonna) The world bopped to this in 2008, and rightly so. It just...it's not a Madonna song. It's so wrong that at least half the lyrics are sung by JT, and it has little semblance of classic Madonna. 48. One More Chance Absolutely beautiful. So mellow. A tad forgettable perhaps. 47. Fever (single version) I'm more well-acquainted with the album version, but this re-working of a cover is so...warm and sexy. It complements Erotica so well. 46. Bedtime Story This is one of M's more bold singles, which really says something. I love what she was trying to do here, and the MV is art. I just feel that the production is a trifle underbaked, meaning I've never entirely connected with it. |

45. Miles Away This song is so warm and easy to listen to. It really takes me back to my mother having Hard Candy playing in the car. 44. Causing A Commotion Such a gorgeous classic 80s sound. 43. Get Together ANother song with huge potential that I feel isn't quite done justice with the production. It's a bit too slight and muffled I feel, so it only gets half way to full bop capacity. 42. Gambler I love this. It's so in-keeping with M's self-titled/LAV sound. 41. Oh Father Ugh, gorgeous. Her voice! REMAINING (Top 40) Burning Up Holiday Lucky Star Bordeline Like A Virgin Material Girl Angel Into The Groove Dress You Up Papa Don't Preach Open Your Heart Like A Prayer Express Yourself Cherish Keep It Together Vogue Justify My Love Rescue Me Erotica Deeper and Deeper Bad Girl Rain Bye Bye Baby I'll Remember Secret Human Nature Love Don't Live Here Anymore Frozen Ray of Light Drowned World/Substitute For Love The Power of Good-Bye Nothing Really Matters Music Don't Tell Me American Life Hollywood Hung Up Sorry Jump Celebration (Benny Benassi) My Top 30 is ICONIC so stay perched |
I like Gambler.
Me and my sister used to have a dance routine to that song when I was a little nipper. I haven't always been cool. |
This thread is BACK to take the spotlight! 40. American Life This is a track with brilliant potential. The production and concept are both fantastic. It's just that the lyrics are...laughably bad in places. I'm trying to learn to enjoy "I'M DRINKIN A SOY LATTE,, I GET A DOUBLE SHOT-AY, IT GOES RIGHT THROUGH MY BODY" unironically. 39. Express Yourself Iconic, of course. Perhaps a little too campy for me though. 38. Jump Jump's chorus is so instant, and it's such a pleasant listen. 37. Celebration (Benny Benassi Remix) I decided to include the Benny Benassi Remix in the rankings because it's the one that accompanies the MV and it's the one I've always listened to. It's been a staple in my running playlist for the last decade! Madonna sounds sexy and fierce here, the production is so strong, and it really makes you wanna party with her. 36. I'll Remember Such a beautiful ballad. The chord progression that begins from the first bar is very entrancing. |
Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh "Express Yourself" is a classic and deserves to be higher. :fist:
|
Celebration is a Top 10.

35. Love Don't Love Here Anymore It seems that a different arrangement was used for the MV, but the rendition in the above video is just gorgeous. The melody, vocals, silky production blend together so smoothly to create such a beautiful sonic landscape. 34. Hung Up Madonna's most iconic post-Music song, for sure. Madonna certainly put her own stamp on that sample, but to me it isn't quite individualistic enough. I bop, but I don't bop hard. 33. Sorry Je suis desolee... Lo siento... This song is high energy and a lot of fun. 32. Keep It Together The first 20 seconds or so of this song are incredible... All of the layers joining the song to create dance-funk-pop perfection. It has such a cute message too. 31. Angel It's kind of LAV's more complex sister? It's a cute little track, but it's not quite good enough to break this iconic top thirty. 30. Bye Bye Baby BBB is so slept on! The beat is bop-worthy, the bass line is great (as with most Erotica songs), and M's pitched vocals really take you back. Great lyrics too <3 29. Rescue Me Such a strong track, with so many intriguing component parts. Also, these are probably some of the best vocals Madonna's ever offered? 28. Holiday Quite possibly M's most enduring track. For some reason, it takes me back to my noughties childhood. I do feel it's suffered in my mind from over-exposure a little. 27. Material Girl Another ICONIC Madonna track. It's just a purely campy, strong BOP. 26. Cherish A gorgeous song  (although I do somewhat associate it with Dawn the Jockey). I love that lyric "Romeo and Juliet, they never felt this way I bet". 25. Hollywood My highest-ranking post-Music single; this track just works. The lyrics are simple but effectively, and the guitar chord procession is so familiar. I bloody love that key change too. The "push the button; don't push the button" segment is amazing, and then it comes back with really heavy synth. It's just an epic track. 24. Like A Virgin ICONIC song. The lyrics are so timeless. That bass that runs through the whole track. The horny sound. It's just sooo... cyclical, but in the best way. 23. Nothing Really Matters It took this bop a while to click with me, but when it did, it hit me hard. Although it's my lowest-ranking ROL single, it's an understated yet perfect piece of dance music. 22. Music Music is just an immensely fun track. Honestly, cheesy pop perfection. 21. Secret Although Madonna's take on RnB was a bit undercooked at places on Bedtime Stories, it is SPOT ON in Secret. The lyrics are so heartfelt, and the guitar is so warm. Brilliance. REMAINING (Top 20) Burning Up Lucky Star Borderline Into The Groove Dress You Up Papa Don't Preach Open Your Heart Like A Prayer Vogue Justify My Love Erotica Deeper and Deeper Bad Girl Rain Human Nature Frozen Ray of Light Drowned World/Substitute For Love The Power of Good-Bye Don't Tell Me |
