Can just discuss Boris of all people urging people to eat better and be healthier :skull:

I’m actually quite happy I can get my junk food fix for a bit cheaper now  although I do find it quite odd that considering the government have said before that we’ve got an obesity problem in this country, they are not making any steps to make certain healthier foods cheaper as well. At the same time though I can imagine that this is very helpful to many low income families as well, who struggle to put food on the table especially if they’ve been on 80% of their wage for some time.

Not all families can afford to buy healthy foods and personally this is something I think that the government could’ve addressed here to help businesses as well.

If more people wasnt snobby about Aldi and Lidl they would realise they could get fruit and veg for a cheaper price

This is not a nice thing to say, many people will lose their jobs and will struggle to put money on the table for their family. Mortgages, uniforms, rent, food shop and essential stuff doesn’t pay for it’s self.

Just let people eat what the **** they want for Christ sake

I agree with this to an extent, but on a local level for me in particular the fruit and veg from Aldi and Lidl will only last a few days before turning, whereas fruit and veg from other shops such as Morrison’s keeps fresher for longer so we can actually buy all our fresh produce for a week in there, whereas if we went to Aldi or Lidl we would have to make 2, sometimes 3 separate trips.

Normally in a week we will get all of our cupboard and frozen produce from Aldi or Lidl and get all of our fresh produce and luxuries from Morrison’s or Asda.

The things strangers eat is so far down on the pecking list of important things in this country

I get this kinda but I do think there’re other things that come into it as well. A lot of families especially low income families need to make their shopping last a considerable amount of time. A carton of Tropicana is around £2.30 and that’s barely gonna last a couple days for a family whereas for the same price you could buy a couple of bottles of cola or Robinson’s or something and it will go further.

i never promote junkfood anyway, since it literally does its name justice, for being literal junk

worst thing for you out of all foods

reece(: 29-07-2020 01:52 PM

Some people can't afford these outlets often so it'll be nice that they can treat themselves.

Ammi 29-07-2020 01:54 PM

...I think the worst thing for you out of all foods is no food..?...no income/no food ...I know that’s an extreme but these businesses are struggling and if they don’t succeed then it’ll just add to those having no jobs and will struggle in buying any food...junk/or no junk...Obviously certain foods included in the scheme are by far not ideal in terms of health ...but nothing about the world atm is ideal and I think it’s just one step at a time...there has been many weeks when people haven’t been able to have these things...so hopefully they’ll be more ‘treats’ than a complete lifestyle, going forward...

...or what reece said, really..there’s that as well...I think people deserve a treat with all of the restrictions of late...

Nicky91 29-07-2020 01:58 PM

fair enough Ammi, also i personally rarely order food from any of those, only time is when we are on holiday and we don't like to cook ourselves

not that i do not eat ''junkfood'' but when we have fries we do bake them ourselves, now we are more onto frozen foods, due to bad potato quality overall

if potato quality is good, homemade fries of course

Crap fruit and veg. And meat.

The reality of the cheaper prices at the bargain basement supermarkets is unfortunately that it is of lesser quality.

Meat is the worst offender, though.

I agree with that Ammi, nothing wrong with a bit of junk or a take-away as a treat, it doesn't do any harm if you're eating OK otherwise and keep active. Food is demonised more than it needs to be to be honest. Obviously over-eating (but that's of any kind of food) and eating NOTHING but junk is going to be bad, but the biggest offender in terms of health is sedentary lifestyle. People can be thin and unhealthy. People with a perfectly average BMI can have shocking cardiovascular fitness. Etc.

Cherie 29-07-2020 03:26 PM

It’s only going to last for 12 days so I doubt people are going to double their size in that time, it’s more about getting people confident to eat out rather than encouraging over eating as you have to eat in to avail I believe

...I think that many people are generally physically healthier atm as well with the once a day exercise through all of these months that some have been doing for the first time...so if junk food is on the menu, it’s a good time to have that balance...and I do think it’s a well deserved ‘feel good’ atm as well....and obviously helping the business/economy/employment...

Nicky91 30-07-2020 02:03 PM

but ok if businesses are struggling then lowering your prices is a smart move, what i said earlier i didn't mean (i am myself all caught up into the ''anti-fastfood'' mindset) but of course hope they manage to survive so those people can keep their jobs
