I was thinking the same. I watched a whole thing on how obesity exacerbates Covid and how the government has a new strategy.

There is (apparently) a "covid age calculator" going around that tells you your "covid age" and thus your risk. Being overweight adds 5 years to your "age" (obese 10 years). Other things like underlying health conditions "add years" too. Although, being female apparently takes 8 years OFF so that's nice for you lot . It means my Covid age as a bog standard male is 35 but my wife (who is 33) gets 8 years taken off and is only Covid age 25! Thnaks a lot Covid, now I'm a cradle-robber.

...I can't help but feel that it's akin to an "elf name generator" at christmas though and not actual science. There are actual workplaces using it to assess risk level though, even in healthcare .

Apparently anyone under "covid age 45" is very low risk of complications. But even a 30 year old who, let's say, is male, obese, and has both diabetes and asthma could easily be bumped up to 50+ and be low/moderate risk. And a 55 year old who would be moderate risk could be pushed right into the 70+ bracket and thus at high risk.

It makes SOME sort of sense. I guess.

All I know is that we have an obesity problem in this country, and it has nothing to do with Covid. And we're encouraging people to eat junk food by halving the cost.

no, but there should just be a ban on junkfood now, and especially now Boris wants to tackle obesity in britain

sooo these businesses could try and advertise more healthier products, like the salad bars, and try to purchase fresh fruit and veg, i mean you gotta adapt to current times, i think fresh veg salad, fruit salad would sell also pretty well, especially now in summer time

This is not a nice thing to say, many people will lose their jobs and will struggle to put money on the table for their family. Mortgages, uniforms, rent, food shop and essential stuff doesn’t pay for it’s self.

If they want to get people eating healthier, healthy food should be cheaper than junk, a family of 4 with a single mother probably wouldn’t be able to fill the fridge up with fresh fruit and vegetables twice a week, it’s easier for people to eat badly when they can’t afford the good stuff.
