Liverpool could be bought by a Chinese business tycoon within days, according to a source close to the deal.

Kenny Huang, head of Hong Kong-based investment company QSL Sports Ltd, wants to take full control of the Reds, who have been up for sale since April.

"A deal has to be done before the transfer window closes [on 31 August]," a source close to Huang told BBC Sport.

"Huang has made a firm proposal. The club's board has to sanction the sale and it could be sewn up in days."

However, he wants the deal to be completed within two weeks to allow Hodgson time to strengthen the squad before the transfer deadline at the end of August. Any later and the deal is off.

Huang is offering to clear Liverpool's debt to RBS

The tycoon also plans to build the club a new stadium as soon as possible.

Huang is a well-known figure in the Chinese sporting industry and particularly influential in basketball and baseball.

Good old Kenny Huang, let's hope he buys us so we can go on a spending spree.

Yesterday.. Carlisle 1-0 Hibs

Not that many are going to be interested but i'm a Hibby and took me 2 hours to get there by train, got escorted by the police from the station to the Griffen, then after held back by the police, they had the dogs etc out and it took me 40 minutes to get back to the station from the stadium then they told us we had to wait on the next train cause there was too many of us, which didn't come to an hour later.

Don't think i'll be going back to Carlisle for a long time, was a complete shambles.

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres says he is "committed to the club and fans" and is "looking forward to working with new Reds manager Roy Hodgson".

Torres, 26, had been linked to Chelsea and Manchester City ever since the club failed to qualify for this season's Champions League.

"I am looking forward to the challenge ahead," Torres told the club's website.

"My commitment and loyalty to the club and to the fans is the same as it was on my first day when I signed."

The Spain international returned to training on Monday after helping his nation win the World Cup in South Africa in July.
