Find this canoe idea baffling and time consuming, means you're basically having a hot dog with hardly any bread then, just crust? And what do you do with the bread you've removed, just chuck it away?

It’s just a ‘dry’ bread finger plus a Frankfurter sausage ( generally) .

Then add tomato ( or brown ) sauce plus fried chopped onions ( yuk) if you wish .

Just cut a sausage-shaped rectangle out of the top of the roll, so everything fits in nicely, and the whole thing stays together throughout the eating without it falling to bits. I throw the excess bread away as there's more than enough bread in a hot dog roll, but you could keep them and make soldiers for your boiled egg the following morning.

Seems like a tragic waste of BREAD !!

That said I recall them doing just that in Florida - maybe it’s worked it’s way to us now

Brioche finger buns, Cumberland chipolatas, breaded onions rings with a good squirting of spicy mayo.

Brioche buns are the best, I used some the other week to make eggy bread and bacon and it was divine

Yep. Always have them in the fridge for burgers or hot dogs.
Trouble with the hot dog ones is they are fully sliced.

Oops I'm a falsely proclaimed serial killer. I actually do eat hot dogs in the canoe style. I thought this was some different style... Didn't realize the standard hot dog style was a "canoe" until I looked up what a hot dog canoe is after voting :joker: Who doesn't eat them like that?
