20. The Power of Good-Bye It's like the other pea in the pod with Frozen. Her vocals here are sublime. And that string crescendo for the bridge is just incredible. 19. Papa Don't Preach You can really strut down the street to Papa Don't Preach. The strings, bassline and beat come together so well. The hook is intoxicating. A pop masterpiece! 18. Don't Tell Me "Please dont...Please don't...Please don't tell me to stop...Don't you...ever....Don't Ever tell me to stop". Ugh this bit where madonna is dancing surrounded by hot guys  This is a simple song, but the beat mixed with the country guitar is a combination I never thought I needed. I live for it. 17. Frozen This song is equally poweful and mysterious. The message is sooo strong too. 16. Drowned World/Substitute for Love The intro to Drowned World honestly gives me goosebumps. It is such a perfect opener for ROL. You can really here the emotion in M's voice. TOP 15 Burning Up Lucky Star Borderline Into The Groove Dress You Up Open Your Heart Like A Prayer Vogue Justify My Love Erotica Deeper and Deeper Bad Girl Rain Human Nature Ray of Light |
15. Rain Erotica truly is the gift that keeps on giving. Rain has skyrocketed to be perhaps my favourite Madonna ballad. From the first second, you are hooked, and the instrumental, and Madonna's vocals capture here 'rain' so perfectly. Those key changes ugh! 14. Open Your Heart Open Your Heart is euphoria. It's so strong and joyful. The perfect song to make you feel better on a down day. <3 13. Borderline That twinkling synth melody that plays from the first second, the beat, the bassline, Madonna's youthful vocals <3 This song was one of my favourites when mum used to play the Immaculate Collection, and it remains a golden track. It's such a good track to scream along to. There's something so...comforting in Borderline? 12. Ray of Light I 'discovered' Ray of Light a few months ago, and quite incredibly, it unlocked a memory of the song from my childhood. I suddenly remembered this song I had no idea I'd forgotten... ROL is another completely euphoric track. The soundscape is unique and captivating. 11. Dress You Up I have one minor criticism with this song, and that's that i feel the production takes some strength and clarity out of M's vocals in the chorus. Other than that, it is a brilliant track. That bassline is just so 80s. It's pretty near to the perfect 80s pop song. Top 10 Burning Up Lucky Star Into The Groove Like A Prayer Vogue Justify My Love Erotica Deeper and Deeper Bad Girl Human Nature These songs have all been on HEAVY rotation for me in the last few months. Literally all are art. |

10. Like A Prayer Probably the biggest 'anthem' of her career. When the choir comes in singing "just like a prayer I'll take you there...it's like a dream to me". The song is such a whirlwind of emotions, and the video is incredible too. 9. Human Nature Definitely one of the most out-there, strong and liberating songs of M's career. I bloody love the chord progression, the beat, the lyrics... I even love that the lyrics don't always rhyme <3 8. Burning Up The rock-inspired guitar riffs, the bassline, and Madonna's strong, quick and cutting vocals are what makes Burning Up. It's such a collossal bop, and such a step up from her debut single. 7. Bad Girl I'm really conflicted about taking this out at #7 because I ADORE it, but I'm just feeling the other six that little bit more atm. All of them are perfect from here on out anyway. From the moment that beat, and then the piano comes in I have goosebumps. Madonna's vocals are so strong and emotive here, and the instrumental is unbelievably powerful and unique. It captures so perfectly the essence of "Smoke too many cigarettes today, I'm not happy when I act this way..." Coupled with the video, she really created something special hear. A power ballad if I ever heard one! 6. Lucky Star From the twinkling synths the song starts with, it's not difficult to understand that this is one of Madonna's very best dance tracks. The synths combine to perfectly convey loved-up ecstasy. The bassline and M's vocals make the sound very classy, and almost...superior? Madonna really is THAT GIRL on Lucky Star. Haven't heard bad girl, erotica or deeper and deeper so they shall be listened to this weekend but out of the list, into the groove should win like I said at the very start

5. Into The Groove "And you can dance! For inspiration :smug: COME ON! :cheer2: I'm waiting :hee:" Such a high-energy, euphoric dance classic. It's such a fun song to sing along to. It's honestly one of the most instant songs in Madonna's catalogue, and it's a staple when I'm getting ready for a night out. Top 4 Vogue Justify My Love Erotica Deeper and Deeper |
Absolutely love ITG

La Isla Bonita is her best

None of these would've made my top 5 (Borderline, Hung Up, Ray of Light, Papa Don't Preach & Music, fwiw) but it's been a good read nonetheless
|
4. Deeper and Deeper Probably my favourite song by M that speaks to my queerness. It's Vogue's sister that showcases some rather different qualities. This song is just so vivacious in its lyricism, the verve with which M sings, and that house beat and pumping synth. The song is just unadultered joy, preaching self-love. I bloody love the flamenco section, and the Vogue reference. It's just a bloody anthem of epic proportions. Top 3 Vogue Justify My Love Erotica |
