Give it a rest all of you. This isn't a debate thread nor is it a chat thread for one of you to out do the other. It's a suggestion thread. have your suggestion, suggest YOUR ideas and move on. Stop criticising.

Serious Debates and a News And Politics sub forum sounds about right to me.

Kizzy. He is correct - imo. It most cases, they DO result less in cut and thrust robust debate, and end up with little more than snipes - you even admitted the same thing in your earlier post a page or so back. If InOne is going to raise that as his reason - then he's entitled to do so imo and I don't see a thing wrong with that - and I don't see why he should be 'brow beaten' as to why he has his view, especially when he has explained why. I don't particulary give two hoots if he was referring to me - I will post where I want to regardless of who thinks what of me. I'm not that hung up about other peoples views about me, I don't lose sleep over it. That doesn't affect my ability to be able to enter a debate / SD thread or any other for that matter - and nor will someone's opinion of me stop me - if I want to post, I will. If you think In One is having a go about you, which you have stated a few times now : he has already told you it's not directed at you - so I'm really lost as to why you are convinced otherwise - but I'm not entirely sure this is the place to address that - because all that is doing: is indeed: proving what InOne has said. Back to his suggestion and reasons : here's one of mine.... As an example: Omah - some things I agree with them about in SD threads - other times I could not be more opposed to them. What puts me off is Omah's tendency to offer less personal viewpoints, less of what 'they' want to say: and instead, Omah tends to copy and paste much. that's their style - and so be it - however, I'm also aware that that type of posting style, does annoy others who are able to comment using their own words. Just as my own blunt, no nonsense, approach will annoy and rankle others. In One has a right to his opinion - he's given it and in honesty: you do seem to be giving him a hard time for having his own voice on something that was - a suggestion. |

sincere apols UKT. I was in midst of doing my last post there - didn't see this one of yours till I posted. |

See....this one I'm not so sure about.... the 'News' section doesn't guarantee that the News will be of a political nature - you'd still get the News about 18 stray dogs being crammed into a shoebox or something similar. Politics having it's own sub-forum I think is a good idea. |

Brow beaten...If he has reached a conclusion is it unfair to ask how he arrived at that? Many threads in the SD forum cause confrontation and heated debate. My query was why he suggested it affected the politics threads specifically? I agree with you entirely on one issue I will continue to post my opinions also regardless of anyones objections. |

I think it's a hard one to call when it's classed as 'News' though. Eg: earlier this morning, there's a story in the News about an reprobate of a man kicking and beating hell out of an old German Shepherd dog - now some may not regard that as 'Serious News'... but it is still a News story. I think this is where the waters become muddied. Lighthearted News vs Serious News stories ...????? Dunno. :conf: |

more trivial news in celeb news, and celeb deaths in their respective forum (musician in music, actor in film, etc.) |

SD is for serious debates: thus it should be robust enough to handle 'confrontation and heated debate' - as long as it remains in the thrust of the subject matter - which often, it doesn't - it degenerates to becoming personal - often mocking someone's opinion rather than respectfully disagreeing. I cannot answer for InOne re your final question; I can offer my view on how I'm reading what's been written - the replies he has given throughout the thread: to me, it seems that he feels that any thread that falls under the Political topics banner in particular, are the ones that he feels degenerate to the point that reasonsonable and civil debate is impossible - and that he feels that most of the threads in the SD side of the forum: fall into that very category - making him avoid that section. In avoiding it: he may miss rather interesting other SD threads. That's my take. |

Yep, Like I said in my first post on here: "Common sense prevails..." |

Why is this? reasonable and civil debate is impossible... When has that ever occured? We are reasonable adults, we post our opinions ..and site reputable articles as reference. Why would you suggest we cannot hold a reasoned debate? I can, you two can speak for yourselves! |
Well the way some of the topics have ended I'd hardly call it reasonable debate.

Anyway, I'm right you're wrong. So that is that. But if mad conspiracies make you happy then that's up to you. |

Quite a deflection there Kizzy, using another person's innocent post as a means to (what could - could - be perceived as a snipe at another poster) ..... personally I'd say that was quite an appropriate example of what InOne was possibly getting at - not perhaps YOU - but as an example of the 'type' of posts that start the decline.....
