Is this an attitude that's common and that I should accept?
 

Is it common? Am I over reacting in thinking this person is being selfish or a kill joy?

Most of the time this is how it goes-
me-Yay next week i'm going to do this and that, i'm so happy. (obviously telling them because i'm excited and want them to be happy for me)
person-aw I want to do that.
Me-aw sorry I know, you might get the chance one day. But yay so happy
Person-silence/side eye/slump. Why are you saying you're happy?
Me-because I am happy I got the opportunity.
Person-Oh so you don't care about me then I see.......

I mean is it wrong of me to expect the person to just say "aw Im happy for you" without having it be about them? :conf:

I believe it should be a mixture of envy and congratulating someone else for getting the oppotunity that they also wanted, but that's just my opinion anyway.

It's a shame and very selfish. I mean, people tell me their good news a lot of them the times and my response is always aw that's excellent well done. If I am envious I try to keep it to myself not to spoil the others person's joy/or sense of accomplishment.

Be envious in silence though and let the person have their moment and joy.

Be part of an industry festival and the hope is to meet/communicate with some people from the industry. Chances are the people that will be there you have seen their work in some form as a a part of a film or other.

If I knew someone like that I would purposely rub their noses in it to be honest. What a dick that person sounds :bored:

Perfect. Make sure they are in great surroundings too, and if possible, with groups of people, all having great fun too. That should do the trick.

It always has to be about them. Disgusting. I have done a lot for that person and they act like it's my duty to help anyway and they hardly ever show appreciation. :bawling: Not that i'm expected a massive thank you fest all the time but a little appreciation wouldn't go a miss. I'm leo, we like to be appreciated. :D

You are right. Because I am afraid the saying "you are the company you keep" will become true and my case and I will no longer have the ability to be happy for other people.
