'I'm in 22 grands debt'

Actually agreed with Danny about this - 'every student is'.

Student debt isn't the same as regular debt. I'm in a lot of debt (due to my own stupidity, mind) and the pressure to pay it off is entirely different. Cristian hardly has bailiffs knocking on his door for his student loan back.

Jack has mentioned before that he's in debt because of his gambling problem.

Vanessa 12-07-2015 09:38 PM

He only said he was going to use the money to pay off his student loan. But he was happy for Jack, unlike the rest. Chloe was fuming.

Withano 12-07-2015 09:40 PM

Completely agree. He said it as if he was expecting everybody to turn around and give him sympathy.

"I'm in 22 grand debt". You were (are?) a ****ing student. It means nothing.

Marsh. 12-07-2015 09:41 PM

Agreed.

Student debt isn't the same as regular debt at all.

Withano 12-07-2015 09:42 PM

Also why is he in 22k debt? Did he quit after 2 years or find a cheap course?

I'm not disputing that, it was just a stupid excuse for having pressed the button, and he was looking for sympathy (which he doesn't deserve, imo as it's not like he's in proper debt)

Marsh. 12-07-2015 09:43 PM

And on that same note, Cristian would pay off his student loan with that 20+ grand?

:joker: No he ****ing wouldn't. A loan that you don't have to pay back until earning so much per year? A loan that gets wiped clean after so many years if it hasn't all been paid back?

No Cristian, terrible excuse. :nono:

Just admit you wanted a holiday and some nice spending money and shut up.

The former, I'd imagine.

I think he just wanted the money to pay off his student loan, that's it.

Depends when he started. If you started prior to 2012 the 9k increase doesn't stand.

Beetlejuice 12-07-2015 09:45 PM

The reason he said it was to justify his decision to push the button. He wasn't doing anything other than explaining himself

Hes 20, don't think he would have been old enough for the 3k course?

Yep, explaining himself with a very poor cover story instead of admitting "23k is a lot of money. I want it"

qwerty42 12-07-2015 09:46 PM

yea its more an annoyance rather than debt

Agreed. He was happy for Jack and he noticed how pissed off about it Chloe was.

joeysteele 12-07-2015 09:47 PM

It is the same when applying for a mortgage for example,it is taken into account at that time, with student debts ranging from over £20,000 to over £40,000 that can make a considerable difference.

Danny wants to mind his own business anyway, that is twice he got at Cristian in the highlights, rubbishing his student debts, and then when he went cooking after Jack had cleaned the kitchen.

The guy seemed genuinely happy for Jack to me.

Danny was a right twat to Cristian, but i'm glad he stood up for himself.

I never said he wasn't.

But instead of simply saying "I went for it because I want it too, just like Jack did" he came out with the lame "Oh my student debts" crap.

Chloe is irrelevant to the discussion no matter how many times you mention she looked pissed off. :hee:

I don't think he'd even get into uni.

I think it was the first time Cristian noticed how unpleasant Chloe can be.

He looked distraught at first, maybe he just gained composure by the time he left the task room

Whilst I agree, he probably wouldn't - what difference does that make? I've not been to uni, have a job (Cristian doesn't, so that 22k was a waste of money) - in which I earn more than the amount they're squabbling about in a year, but I still know how student debt works

He didn't look too bothered. He will earn a lot more than that when he starts working.

He almost tried to pull the old we're all in the same boat pal. He's not in Cristian's shoes and shouldn't act like his debt is no big deal.

I saw his face drop and his bottom lip curl over the top lip before he started to clap alone and make a deal about nothing (aka student loan).

At least he was happy for Jack, unlike the others.

I doubt he'd be in the house if he really, really wanted to be a doctor. It takes 5 years+ training and any time out pretty much means you won't get onto the course anyway. He's in there for his rap 'career' which won't be happening because he's a) crap and b) has no charisma

No he didn't?! He just said that all students have a lot of debt - which is true. And you don't have to pay it off until you're earning a certain amount, which as Cristian is unemployed can't be putting that much pressure on him.

That's just a hobby, not what he's going to do as a job.
