KFC, Nandos , McD and Pret lower prices after VAT cut
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-53411649
[Nando's, Pret A Manger and McDonald's are among firms to promise reductions after the chancellor ordered a temporary VAT cut from 20% to 5%. The Treasury estimates households could save £160 a year on average, but not all firms will pass on the benefit.] [Fast food chain KFC said it would reduce the price of sharing buckets by £1 and slash the cost of certain "fan favourites" by 50p. McDonald's also said it had recommended that its franchisees cut prices on an array of products, including popular lines such as the Big Mac and Quarter Pounder. There will also be price cuts on coffee. In the UK, the vast majority of the 1,350 McDonald's outlets are owned and operated by individual business men and women, with each franchisee running an average of six restaurants each.] |

Nice way to help people lose weight.
VAT cuts and general running costs should be cut for greengrocers and healthy food outlets tbh |
I'm going to McDonald's tomorrow

Does junk food really need to be even cheaper? People will still spend the same they'll just buy double the food :joker:.

...I can't help but feel that it's akin to an "elf name generator" at christmas though and not actual science. There are actual workplaces using it to assess risk level though, even in healthcare . Apparently anyone under "covid age 45" is very low risk of complications. But even a 30 year old who, let's say, is male, obese, and has both diabetes and asthma could easily be bumped up to 50+ and be low/moderate risk. And a 55 year old who would be moderate risk could be pushed right into the 70+ bracket and thus at high risk. It makes SOME sort of sense. I guess. |

That said, the junk food aspect is being focussed on quite heavily, it's really a bit of a technicality. Places like normal restaurants and little cafés etc. can also benefit (the little boutique cafe where I live is signed up, for example) ... but they can't really exclude fast food places. They are technically still restaurants. |

The government is putting in place an anti-obesity plan, while halving the price of junk food. Seems a bit stupid to me. |

no one eat junkfood anymore, let all those businesses go bankrupt
and everyone start eating only healthy foods |

Businesses going bankrupt means people losing their jobs |

Why not support healthy eating with discounts instead of supporting burgers, nuggets and chips? |

Then deny them NHS treatment when they have a stroke/ diabetes/ heart disease etc. etc. Obesity costs the NHS more than smoking. |
If they want to get people eating healthier, healthy food should be cheaper than junk, a family of 4 with a single mother probably wouldn’t be able to fill the fridge up with fresh fruit and vegetables twice a week, it’s easier for people to eat badly when they can’t afford the good stuff.

sooo these businesses could try and advertise more healthier products, like the salad bars, and try to purchase fresh fruit and veg, i mean you gotta adapt to current times, i think fresh veg salad, fruit salad would sell also pretty well, especially now in summer time :) |
The nhs is for everyone, not just the healthy people who eat like rabbits
|
also what about the slim people who gain diabetes from to much sugar should they be treated? Or is it only fat people that should be banned
